Transfer rumours

Your right a few of examples of athletic and quality players we should of signed.

6 foot 4 highly thought of premier league academy midfielder.

A workhorse ball retreaving specialist who was the best in his position last year and got a team promoted.

a 6 foot 6 international goalie who was playing European football all summer.

A battling midfielder who’s played multiple seasons in the premier league who’d die for the badge.

A ridiculously fast and direct winger who helped get a team promoted to the premier league.

A striker who’s gotten back to back club golden boots in the championship for two different teams.

A Dutch midfielder from a top Dutch team that was wanted by a Dutch legend like Van Persie at a steal under a million who’s only 22.

Irrelevant, when Rooney and to an extent Cocu, could bring in a half decent talent whilst a much more restraint budget than Warne has got.

Allsop, Plange, Ebiowei, Morrison, Jags, Steerman, Bryne, Robinson Kazim...

There's no excuse for Warne being in a much better position than Cocu and Rooney found themselves in.

You just named a bunch of old men and a couple of youth players that were signed by the academy.

Of the players I listed I'm pretty certain Kazim, Jags and Steerman the only over 30s?.. And most fans loved all three.

Rooney wasn't scared to play those youth players and they'd instantly come into the first team and make a impact -  that's the difference to the present day.

Talking of Southampton midfield players, Stuart Armstrong was released at the end of last season, is only 32 and is genuine quality.

Totally agree, as my brother is a Saints fan, seen quite a bit of him over the last few years. Maybe wages might be a problem for us 😊

The big difference to the present day is that at the time our academy had been run well for years and had won the youth PL a few years previous, many of them were on the brink of first team action.  We sold most of that lot of to stave off the grim reaper.

Our current academy (as with the rest of the club) is still in the process of rebuilding.  We have some talents on the cusp of the first team, but like others on here I believe that in the case of Brown for example, it would be better for him in the long run to have a full season in Lg1 preferably playing week in, week out, rather than the occasional 5 mins of first team action here.

According to Dom’s tweet the striker has been on the list for a while,

Harry Leonard? Jack vale? Michael smith?

a premier league club waiting to get another player in suggests to me is it someone close to the 1st team?

any ideas?

You've named 3 academy players (Plange, Ebiowei and DRobinson), with Plange even playing for our U18s the season before (8 games between March and May)

Byrne was signed in 2020 for a nominal fee, but wages believed to be above £10k. Kazim signing a couple months after the window ended, as a free agent because we failed to sign someone better during the transfer window.

No one else seemed to want Allsop, Morrison, Jagielka, Stearman until they played for us. They probably wouldn't have accepted our £4.5k cap if they had other offers. Players like that are available now - Liam Cooper being on example.

Al Hamadi or Woodrow would probably both fit the bill

I would have thought it will be a loan from a Prem club the way I understood Warne , so that rules out Leonard , Smith and Lapado ?

Who would you gamble on GoC? Maybe we'll see them play tomorrow thanks to RamsTV showing U21s, hurrah! 🙂

I don't think anyone other that DBrown is ready to have a serious impact on the first team. A small few will be rewarded for their performances in cup competitions and/or after safety is confirmed.

I've named a few players who I consider the brightest prospects in another post somewhere.

Along with Wiredu and Ongontolu, it's an obvious yes from me.

You can keep Smith and Leonard, mind!

Rooney had very little choice but to play those youth players. The others were out of contract and there wasn't exactly a queue to sign them.

Who's Robinson BTW?
