Retained List

Recommended Posts

Good to get the retained list and happy with the decisions made. Hope Sibbo signs but unsure on Collins. He could be effective in the box as a sub with better quality service, but his lack of pace will be more obvious at this level. I think he would struggle to out sprint Larry Grayson over 100 metres.

You are a tough man!

Thought he was great before his injury. Our only proper senior 'club' man who can offer cover as full back/wing back and center half.

Doubt he's breaking the bank.

Happy for him.

Think he will be good cover…

Think Larry was more of a 400m specialist 😉

Think he's a good character and shown real resilience to come back from his ACL injuries but I think League 1 was and is his level.Watching the wingers in the Championship this season ,I fear for us if he gets exposed .

Was told in January from a source previously reliable, Jack Thompson was going to be our number 1 next season no matter which league we were in. Make of it what you will. But may explain the Wildsmith thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

I think we probably have the same source but you likely misheard-think it would be ‘Third’ choice and not ‘First’ choice 🤷🏻‍♂️

I could see Jack Thompson maybe getting into the under 23s, but surely first choice in the first team is unrealistic.  I've never watched the u23's or u18's live, so I have no opinion on how good he is, but surely a 17 year old could be playing for the under 23s if they were good enough?

I don't particularly want to see Wildsmith go, but this is a bi-product of prudent housekeeping.  It was obvious in January that there was a good chance he would leave, as soon as he didn't sign a new contract.  The only way this could be bad for the club would be if for instance Wildsmith wanted £12k per week, which we refuse to pay, then end up paying £14k to someone else that is no better in goals.  I really can't see that being the case though.  I think we'll end up with someone who is as good as Wildsmith, if not a bit better at least in terms of distribution and decision making.

Joe Wildsmith moves on with my thanks for his large contribution to a great season.  All the best and good luck for next season (unless you're playing the Rams of course).

This is my fear too. Only really cover at CB really.

Pretty much as you’d expect.

I’d have offered Smith another year and would have released Collins, as Washington’s still contracted and we only need one back up player.

But other than that I think the right decisions have been made.

Thompson has been 1st choice for the U21s since before Christmas. Arguably man of the match most games too.

I would expect at least a full season on loan in L1 before being a regular for our first team, with maybe a half season in L1/2 before that.

I’d be very surprised if we didn’t look to move Washington on.

I have no idea whether young Thompson is good enough or not, having not seen him play.

What I do know is, that Donnarumna was Milan’s first choice keeper at 16 years old.

If you’re good enough you’re old enough…

Yeah, but that AC Milan, we’re Derby County! 💪

Suspect he’ll be used sparingly at LB/LWB next season. Probably CB cover off the bench
