Max Bird - flew the coop to Bristol City, loaned to us to end of season

People forget it's not just a football move it's their life too. Still a young lad moving to a nice city, much better night life than Derby and his mates there. Derbys turning into a bigger **** hole year by year, people will blame Warne for not attracting players but I'm sure the city has a big part to play in it too.

I said exactly the same upthread.

Bristol is a million miles away from Derby as a destination.

Well as some have said I'm sure JK38 had some influence here.

Fact is, Max could have signed a contract with us if he wanted ....knowing that if we didn't get promoted this season - then had an offer come in that was acceptable then he could have left anyway. So, clearly he just didn't want to stay. As Warne says - we don't want hostages. If we do get promoted it'll be interesting to see Brisle v Derby games...

It feels a bit tinpot doing the loan back thing. I don't blame Bird for leaving, but if he wants to go we should've just taken the money and worked with our other options in midfield. I'm a Derby fan, not a Max Bird fan, so I couldn't care less what he does or how he develops in his career from now on. That's his and Bristol City's business now. In my opinion he should be held to higher standards for the remainder of his time here as there is no longer any argument to be made that we're developing him for our own benefit.

Football is a business and everyone wants to make the most of their career.

He’s done his bit for us and I’m sure will do his best between now and the end of the season.

If we think there’s a better option he’ll drop to the bench but at the moment he’s the best we have in midfield.

Just popped up on my YouTube club feed. Feels like a very poor attempt at late PR to try and smooth fan unrest! “Look what Max can do, and haven’t we been brilliant in negotiating him to stay until summer?”

Real world point.  How many times do we reach a point, in any job, where we want to move on - no difference for footballers than the rest of us.  His contract is up in the summer and we'd get nothing.  If he wants out at which point he'd have just left; as things stand, he is staying until end of the season (as he would have anyway), we get paid for him.  BC get to know they have their man next year.  Everyone is a winner - so yes this is a win for all sides.

Footballers are employees and we'd drop them as quick as you like, so them wanting what's best for themselves seems perfectly fair enough.

Real world point.  If your s**** at your job and miss key targets, do you get to sit on your arse for 4 years getting splinters at 25x the average salary.  Swings and roundabouts.

So when it's Eiran Cashin, selling with a loan-back is fantastic business, but when it's Max Bird, it's like living with your ex.

WALOB 😂

We haven't sold Cashin. And he didn’t want to go that’s why he’s signed to 2027 and not run his contract down the way Bird has done.

We wouldn't be asking him to, in effect, work his notice if what you are saying is correct - easiest thing in the world would be to say "thanks, security will escort you to the door".  We want him to stay until the summer.

His salary is what we have offered.  We have offered (probably insisted!) that he stay until EoS.

Not much gets past you, does it sunshine? 🤣

No, no it doesn’t. Sunshine. You was suggesting we’ve sold Cashin with a loan back and it would be a good deal.

He has signed a long term deal. Bird never did and wanted to go to Bristol city,  sunshine.
