This isnโ€™t a three about Twitter though, itโ€™s a thread about X.ย

What do they mean by an everything app anyway?

I read some stuff about that yesterday. Sounds like We Chat in China is like that, an app you use for "everything" ie chat, social, taxis, holidays etc.

Maybe that could work if one app makes all that stuff easy to use/cheaper if in one place. I'm not sure people are that desperate for even more of a monopoly though. And having a few apps that cover most things seems fairly easy nowย

I'm not convinced Musk has gone about creating the sort of business that everyone will want to be part of really, especially when it comes to putting card details in.

Thing is, Zuckerberg with Meta is much closer to having apps which do all those things than Musk is.ย

Biggest irony? Meta, and therefore, Zuckerberg, owns the trademark for X. Microsoft started a rival to twitch called mixer which failed, but they sold their branding which included X and its use in social media space trademark to Facebook video. Therefore, Musk cannot use X without Zuckerberg agreeing, so guess we will see what happens with that.ย

Muskโ€™s ownership of twitter has been baffling. He spent an exorbitant amount of money for basically nothing - he has slated the code, the branding, got rid of employees and offices. User base? Well the user base was there because of the code and branding, so theyโ€™ll go. So what has he actually bought? All companies kill for their brand to become the vernacular - hoover, coke, bubble wrap, jet ski etc

Twitter, prior to the awful porn-style rebranding, had lost so much value that it was the equivalent of Yum! Brands. Yum! owns KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. Thatโ€™s over 30,000 restaurants and all the employees, branding etc. itโ€™s basically $20bn.

Musk has a weird obsession with X. He tried to rebrand PayPal to X and bought x.com. Their focus groups and marketing research said it was a horrible idea and made it sound like a porn site, so they refused to do it and had to remove him from the company. He kept the x.com name though. Since then heโ€™s got a child he calls X, he has Space X, Tesla Model Xโ€ฆ itโ€™s just plain weird.

Musk is a snake oil salesman who people have believed his promises which he rarely delivers close to what he said for a long time. But hey, some Teslaโ€™s are nice despite build quality, so itโ€™s fine. But now itโ€™s not an actual physical product heโ€™s being seen for what he is.ย

Musk has made his billions by taking risks, has a proven track record that has made him one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the last 100 years.ย

Pity he does not read this forum he might learn a few tips. ๐Ÿ˜€

That's it. Goodbye to 17 years of branding, no more Twitter, Tweets, Retweets, justย ๐•.

Not an X that they can copyright either as it's just a unicode character which someone claimed they created and Elon liked.

Businesses rebrand all the time, nothing new, this one is terrible though as they try to become the "everything app"

ย

This whole "everything app" is pretty depressing for a number of reasons. Among them, it kind of puts paid to the idea that he bought Twitter (and therefore took his attention away from taking us to Mars and building electric cars) because free speech is more important than anything else. I'm not sure how making Twitter an everything app is somehow saving free speech.

I used to kind of like him when he was just the rocket and Tesla guy. He's not totally irredeemable and some of his interviews where he talks about how he put absolutely everything into making Space X happen were actually pretty inspiring. But now I'm just sick of him.

I believe he bought Twitter as he loved the platform and wanted to allow free speech, that was the original plan.

Once the advertisers who ultimately control the internet said no, then had to pivot to this to the everything app he's wanted that will create various revenue streams.

The problem is he's a spontaneous man, none of his decisions appear to be well thought out and planned.

Take this rebrand for example, it wasn't the CEO or Twitter account that announced the change, it was himself, which quickly led to a crowd source for a logo.

I feel like he would take a Uber ride, hear an idea of the driver and announce it before the journey ended, later letting his team and CEO know.

I uninstalled the app last night, just not for me anymore. Now Threads has a chronological feed option with people you follow, it's now become a viable option.

Not a perfect solution with the data mining going on, although with no other alternatives it's the more favourable option of the two.

Good thread on Musk's obsession with X as a brand and why it got him the boot from Paypal. Also worth noting that Musk is no longer the CEO of Twitter but seems to just tweet random decisions out and the actual CEO's job appears to be to come out and publicly support whatever nonsense Musk has decided to do on any given day.

Here's today's random decision from Musk.

Quite frankly, in my view, freedom of speech has limits and posting child porn images is beyond that limit.

So glad I quit. I can't in good conscience play any part in this.

that CEO hire was purely to stop the Tesla stock tanking like it was. โ€œHey look, I am focussing on Tesla and not twitter anymore!โ€ ย
