It’s been a quiet few days. I wonder who this player is that we’re allegedly signing this week.

On the striker front none of our obvious competitors have strengthened significantly. Charlton signed May and Bolton Nlundulu but apart from that it’s been quiet for them. However, a lot of them have at least 1 decent striker whereas I’d say we have 2 average strikers. We simply need to nail the signing of the third striker. Big few weeks ahead.

Could be Jack Vale , we were interested in a loan deal with Blackburn

I started looking into strikers who had a lot of early promise, but as of yet haven’t hit the ground running in senior football. One name caught my eye - Tyreece John-Jules.

A good size, athletically impressive but with the football ability to match. He started well for Ipswich last season, well liked by their fans, but injuries really cost him his chance of developing further. Now, there are rumours that he may join them permanently but I’d like to think we could jump in and offer him a more immediate route to regular football.

No idea what Arsenal want, but would assume he’s cheap and available. He’s in the last year of his contract and now wants somewhere to settle - https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/22461118/arsenal-transfer-news-tyreece-john-jules-ipswich/

In terms of value and upside, I doubt there will be many better options available to us this summer in that position.

Would have been a good option instead of Washington, but I really think that we need that stellar striker signing with experience of getting goals in either league 1 or the championship. Matty Godden would be my choice.

We're going to need to be patient if we are to land a 'stellar striker' as its highly likely they will have aspirations further up the football food chain. We will not make (or aren't allowed to make) blow-you-out-of-the-water offers for players any more so I suspect we will only sign a player like Godden if other 'better' options fall by the way side for him.

I would not be surprised if any further big impact signings don't come until the last week of August.

I’d imagine Ladapo I can’t see him staying now they’ve signed Hirst

Hirst was at Ipswich last season, from January onwards anyway.

So far their numbers up top haven’t changed so I can’t see Hirst’s arrival influencing any decision to keep or sell.

Seems obviously cheesed off from continuous loans.
Like you say ex clubs supporters and managers seem to like the lad so it is rather surprising how nobody’s been interested in signing him permanently.

Anyway, I read an article in the East Anglia Times taken from the Beautiful Game Podcast, seems to sum up his career so far.

Since I was 17/18, every season I've had a big injury.

I played one game at Sheffield Wednesday. I came on and in the first two minutes I got injured (quad).

At Ipswich I had back-to-back injuries (hamstring and quad). I missed six months of the season, so it's be tough to say the least.

The second injury came on the last day of my hamstring rehab. The next day I had been due to train with the team.

When that happened my head was gone. I didn't know what to do. Thankfully my family were there to pick me up.

It's been bad. All the time questioning myself. 'What am I doing wrong?' 'What do I need to change?'

This can't keep happening. I can't keep having month after month of not playing.

Shame really……………wish him well.

While I agree with most of this, it’s worth remembering what a club offers a player is more than wages/financial. It’s the facilities that they will work in every day. It’s the size of the ground and fans. It’s the stature of the club. It’s opportunities to showcase their talent. In all of those, Derby offer a very competitive option, as well as they finances not being bad compared to the league (and some in the league above!)

I don’t expect us to overspend on any 1 player, but we can offer something to most players

That is true, but it's still so tough to find proven goalscorers that don't come with any serious asterisk in League 1. Anyone who's known to score goals will at least have Championship offers, if they don't, it's likely because they don't stay fit and/or they're old. At this level, you can have those players, but you will likely need to take a chance on someone who maybe young, maybe has some attributes but maybe hasn't put all those bits in place to have scored a boat load of goals. If you can get that right, and the balance right with the more experienced players, that's how you get resale value.

This is why i struggle to believe Godden is the third striker. We have Collins and Washington who are both north of the 30, and Godden will be 32 before the season starts.

Yes just seen this. Personally i think Reading have done well to get both him and Knibbs in.

I will accept that we may not have been in for either as links to both were minimal, but as fans playing football manager, these 2 along with May seemed like obvious choices for targets.

I think/hope that we'd have heard a more concrete name by the end of the week of who we're after.

All true. But - finances aside - most players look to play at the highest level possible and we (as a fan collective) would like the club to be signing players that are either currently at, or are being linked with, Championship teams. I reckon it is going to need those options to be closed off before we become an attractive proposition.

There aren't many Championship tiddlers this coming season, which doesn't help our cause in terms of wage competitiveness. Though that said, we have taken a number of players from that tier already this season so we are in with a chance.

These two seemed to want to go somewhere as a pair, be interesting what they do with a supposedly better team around them. Have to say, given their ages, they did seem like they might fit what we wanted. Guess we will see what we end up with.
