Recommended Posts

Wildsmith 7 Good save in 2nd half, consistent kicking.

Smith 7 Did well out of position.

Cashin 8 Was up against some big lads and came out on top.

Forsyth 7.5 Would have been higher but for the silly penalty.

Mendez-Laing 8.5 Big contribution, important we keep him fit.

Bird ?7 Good positive performance, for me one of the first names on the team sheet.

Hourihane 7 Looked up for the challenge and delivered.

Roberts 7 Looked comfortable, nice assist.

Sibley 6 Seemed easily dispossessed. Needs to bulk up a bit.

Osula 6 Looked like he was going through the motions, needs to learn from Collins

McGoldrick 9 Excellent, would have been higher but for the skewed clearance for their 1st goal.

Collins 8 Great to have him back, works so hard for the team.

Dobbin 6 End product/final ball is missing

Thompson 6 Busy, a little short on confidence.

Wildsmith 7 - Massively exceeded my expectations, really wasn't sure of him in pre-season.

Smith 7 - Looks good at RB

Cashin 7.5 - Thought he was excellent first half, but got caught out a couple of times second half with his over-eagerness to win the ball.

Forsyth 7 - Mostly very good but stupidly dangling a leg out drops him a mark.

Mendez-Laing 8 - Really good, linked up with the front two really well and some end product. Best game for a while.

Bird ? 7 - Good performance, as usual.

Hourihane 7 - Improved energy and aggresiveness.

Roberts 8.5 - Thought he was excellent, defensively quality and good going forward.

Sibley 6 - Looked more like the low confidence easily dispossed Sibley. Worked hard.

Osula 6 - Struggled to get involved

McGoldrick 9 - The kind of performance he's been threatning to have, too good for this level. Hopefully he can stay fit.

Collins 8.5 - Never stops running and hassaling defenders. Gives away a few too many soft fouls when defenders are in trouble.

Dobbin 6 - Does some really good things, but invariably loses the ball. Keeps missing sitters and his touch is so heavy. Obviously has ability but is still vary raw.

Thompson 6 - Typically hardworking.

Wildsmith 7 - another good display. Wasn't overly tested but handling & kicking all sound when required

Smith 7 - looked comfortable considering it's not his natural position. Quick to snuff out attacks & technically adept to join in with build up play

Cashin 7.5 - got caught out for pace a couple of times but recovered with well-timed challenges. Usual class on the ball

Forsyth 7 - another good display & did well to deal with a couple of balls over the top second half. Lost half mark for dangling his leg out for their lad to collapse for the penalty

Mendez-Laing 8 - excellent. How on earth Warne thinks he is a wing back is beyond me - absolutely terrorised Bristol & set up two of the goals with his persistence

Bird ? 7.5 - much better than Tuesday. More energetic so won plenty of second balls & more involved in the game

Hourihane 7.5 - like Bird, improved massively from Exeter game. He was tracking back constantly, his set pieces were much better & his energy around midfield meant we gained control of the game

Roberts 7.5 - won the header for Collins' goal & assured defensively all game

Sibley 6 - offered some impetus late on but Bristol dealt with him comfortably enough

Osula 6 - like Sibley, didn't really threaten late on but worked hard to keep the 2 goal lead in tact

McGoldrick 9 MOM - outstanding display. Three excellent goals (particularly the third) & a constant threat throughout. Only blot was his attempt to clear the ball in build up to their first goal

Collins 8.5 - team have clearly missed him, thought he was excellent yesterday. Works so hard to chase down defenders & secure quality possession. Scored also & looks set for a good season

Dobbin 6.5 - not quite as incisive as previous games & fluffed a golden chance to score second half

Thompson 6 - solid sub cameo

Wildsmith  7  Good kicking, good save and couldn't be blamed for the goal from open play as he was crowded out by our players.

Smith 6  I noticed a few dodgy positional things, but generally fine. Seemed a bit tetchy with instructions/ feedback from coaches. Some nice passing one awful one that ruined NML attack.

Cashin 7.5 Class act and takes control. Couple of errors.

Forsyth 6 Like him at CB atm, but that penno was a bad mistake.

Mendez-Laing 8 2 assists, dangerous, hard- working, pace, power, skill. Love it.

Bird ? 6. I don't get why people think he played well. Yes, second half he was much improved but that still amounted to a few bits here and there. First half was anonymous as usual, jogging in between the play. More decisive after the break, some interceptions, some passes but meh.

Hourihane 6.5 Much better effort, nice aggression, much more involved, decent dead balls.won headers, tracked back!

Roberts 7.5 Assist, strong tackling, willing runner, good in the air.

Sibley 5.5 nothing worked

Osula 6 seemed unsure whether to press. Didn't hold up ball.

McGoldrick. 9.5 Instinctive finishes, incredible pressing. Botched a clearance that they scored from, messed up a great chance 2nd half and then got booked with a filthy tackle!

Collins 8 Huge pressing effort, great tenacious hold up play, a goal and some surprising delightful bits of skill!

Dobbin 6.5 Good effort. Once nice tackle back but taking on folk in our half is unduly unsettling. Good outlet on left but not as involved as Tuesday.

Thompson 6 Good effort, alert and did nowt wrong.

Wildsmith 7.5, pity he didn't stand for the peno as he's been so good at anticipating them so far, solid yet again though

Smith 7, adapted well

Cashin 7, did well considering on the right hand side

Forsyth 7, lost a half for the peno but marshalled the defence pretty well and a couple of good moments,  the last ditch header and out muscling their guy (throwing him to the grd...)

Mendez-Laing 8.5, excellent with being able to concentrate on attacking only

Bird ? 6.5, steady but isn't comfortable alongside Hourihane

Hourihane 6.5, one of his better games and showed more energy, pity about the suspension

Roberts 7.5, like him, solid

Sibley 6.5, asked to play wide again, won the odd free kick when needed and pressed when needed, but unable to affect the game with us looking to contain when he came on

Osula 5, disappointed as Collins showed more energy in closing down despite being on for the whole game

McGoldrick 9, minus half for not burying the chance early 2nd half and their 1st goal...

Collins 8.5, worked his socks off, what we missed last Tuesday

Dobbin 6.5, out wide again, had flashes but should have lifted the ball when he had his chance to most likely score

Thompson 6, did what was needed in unfamiliar position,  might start on Tuesday, if so, big game for him

Interesting that several very quick to mark Forsyth down for the penalty then give McGoldrick 10, not losing points for the fluff clearance for the 1st goal? Or possibly overplaying the chance t

hat led to Dobbin missing his at the start of the 2nd half which gets mentioned also, Didzy should have shot before running into a defender and the ball spilling to Dobs......
