I despise Children In Need

Before I start, I absolutely admire anyone who does anything - however wacky - to raise money for the wonderful causes that Children In Need supports.

But, and it's a huge but, I find it skin crawlingly distasteful that celebrities come on television and ask us all to give cash because our society isn't able to support those in need. Then, at the end of the night, we somehow find it a thing of wonder that we have extracted millions of pounds from the British public to fund wonderful initiatives that we otherwise felt fell outside our fiscal and social responsibility.

It's just wrong, and we all (including me) fall for it every year because we also know that if we didn't fund these charities then they wouldn't get funded at all.

Yet Marcus Rashford is lauded and awarded an MBE for pretty much the same thing.

Which is only right. But I think the point is, he shouldn’t have needed to.

it is a bit crap to all be celebrating one night where we e collectively raised £100m quid, only to realise Man City spent that willingly on jack grealish.

It really does sicken me that there’s a few people out there who could literally buy off the third world debt, give every kid in the country a meal for life, a do a million other good things, but instead it all gets stuck in stocks and shares and empty properties in London, while ordinary folk are asked to dig deeper and deeper.

god, I’ve really got to stay off these depressing threads. I’m going to check out the administration thread to cheer myself up.

I do wonder how much traction hos campaign would have gained, if he had instead gone down the route of stopping having footballers paid image rights through limited companies and instead having it taxed through PAYE, with the money ring fenced to pay for school meals...

I would assume that the traction and awareness raised by his campaign was seen as a very significant benefit so doing it quietly would have missed out on this?

I do agree that anyone taking advantage of tax loopholes while campaigning for the public’s money is a hypocrite, however, if this is indeed commonplace among footballers. I would like to think Rashford himself doesn’t do this though and unless he has added being a tax accountancy specialist to his already significant list of skills, he may not be in a position to comment on his fellow professional’s affairs.

Maybe we can just see it for what it is, which is a now privileged individual using his significant platform for a very worthy cause. Whether he should need to, as with Children in Need, is not something we can discuss ?

Rashfords company MUCS Limited appears to handle his 'image rights' which we all know is a tax dodge to avoid 40% tax.

Think its pretty common knowledge that most of the top footballers go down this route.
