Music Derby have run out to

Hi everyone,

I hope this okay to post here, moderators please move or delete if you need to.

I’m part of a team at the University of Sheffield, led by Dr Chris
Stride. We've published a number of academic papers and magazine
articles relating to football history, on subjects such as statues and
replica shirts (see, for example sportingstatues.com, and
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17460263.2019.1578255).

Our current project is investigating the music that football teams have
run or walked out of the tunnel to over the years.

We are looking for the music that Derby have run out to, for as
many seasons in the past as you can recall. We are simply interested in
the title of the song, the artist who recorded it, and for which seasons
Derby ran out to this.
Any help you can give us to
piece together the different songs that your club has run out to would
be hugely appreciated.

If you have any personal anecdotes around the reasons for the songs
being used, or the changes between them, that would also be fantastic.

I should also add that we are not interested in goal music, or a song
that is played at the final whistle, but just the song that is on the
tannoy system as the players enter the field.

If you think someone else may be able to help, or you have any
questions, please let us know!  We would be very happy to discuss the
project.

Cheers

Good to see student loans are still being used to fund time spent on worthwhile research. I’m sure the world will be a better place once Dr Stride’s paper is published.

Check Wikipedia for  "The Dam Busters March" for details of the music, although it is largely recognised as an instrumental as opposed to a song. Used by Derby for many years from shortly after it was written by Eric Coates in 1955 - others may be able to be more precise on dates. Derby County adopted the music as the "our" tune due to the connection with the flying training carried out in Derbyshire's Upper Derwent valley over the Howden and, particularly, Derwent reservoirs, the latter being most suitable for the planned attack on the Eder, Mohne and Sorpe dams in Germany's Ruhr industrial heartland

(Wikipedia also cites Lincoln City as a user of the same music - one you may wish to follow up.)

Since the move of the club to Pride Park in the mid-1990's, "Steve Bloomers Watching" was used until recently as the entry anthem - I am sure younger DCFC supporters will be able to provide more detail.

Please tell me this a spare time  project and not part of a "serious" degree/doctorship. I cannot conceive of any useful purpose to this "research".

Do we actually "run" out to any music these days?

because it reflects society at the time

The only one that stands out in my memory was the 1995/96 season which was We Will Rock You by Queen.

Yeah this is the one I can remember. I also recall we had a chance to vote on what the song would be. The “Ram Page” programme had a shortlist that included this and Eye of the Tiger and a few others. I’m sure someone on here has that issue to hand (mine’s in my parents’ attic)!

I remember us coming out to Clubbed to Death by Rob Dougan around the time of our last stint in the prem. That was a good one, always got me pumped up.

Summed up that Premier League season..
