I think we bought tickets off a tout as the ticket office was shut when we arrived. Me and a mate stayed overnight having been to an Elvis Costello private gig at the hammersmith palais the night before. Went back home on the road rider though.

Then you went to Highbury?  Didn't you want to go to Chelsea?   ?

Desperate to see the last game at the BBG I sat in the away end with the Arsenal fans .Good bunch of lads actually mind you it's easy to be ok when you win 3-1.

We did the same. My mate got 4 tickets through his work and we’re not sure they would be in the Arsenal end.

It had been our Football Club end of seasons awards the night before and it had been fancy dress. We so nearly came in the costumes we’d hired to get our monies worth (Gandhi, Hitler, Indian Chief and Biggles). Thank god we didn’t as tickets WE’RE in the Arsenal end Ossie Lower Tier.

We celebrated Ashley Wards goal in the first ten minutes and Arsenal lot we’re not as understanding as mentioned above.
Can you imagine rucking being dressed up !

Thankfully got quickly escorted out and C Stand and Paddocks cheered us out.
I was put near the front in small section of Ossie Lower which had Derby in it and was one of first lot on the pitch at the end.

Done a few others and I’ll post on here if I get chance, as like those I’ve read, they are always amusing stories.

Cheers

Ashamed to say I have been in with the away fans at the old BBG. In mitigation, I was at the game as a 13 year old with my brother-in-law and his father who were both Blackburn fans. Incidentally my brother-in-laws father was also a teacher at my school. Could see him thinking of an excuse to put me on detention as Derby raced into a 3-0 half-time lead. A Bobby Davison brace and a bizarre 20 yard own goal by Blackburns centre half.  In true Derby fashion we managed to turn what should have been a comfortable win into a nail biting 3-2 win.

I has a spare ticket away at Arsenal in early 2000s and went with my mate at work, a big Arsenal fan who could never get a ticket at Highbury. He was about 6'2 and black so stood out somewhat.

Turned out he had never been to Highbury before and we were about 10 mins late as he didn't know the way. Also turned out that he didn't know anything about going to football as he celebrated their first goal and somehow no one in our end noticed it.

I managed to convey to him that he would probably get decked if anyone realised, but I was more concerned with been banned from buying tickets in future. Lost 2-0. Think Boertain played well.

Opening game of the season?  Lost 3-0?

We went for a couple in the local boozer (near the ground) after the game... showing our colours.  Locals as friendly as 'owt.

Came out at kicking out time, to a minibus literally on it's side, one window completely missing, and all 4 tyres slashed to zero psi!

Didn't set off home until early hours, and with the heavy fog, and the driver not being able to see much further than his nose, we got home just in time for work next morning!

Oh... and guess who bagged the seat nearest the missing window!   Effing freezing, I was!

EDIT:

Oh, just realised that's weird!  Cold and foggy in August?  Maybe I'm getting my games mixed up, but defo Cambridge away!  Maybe I went twice?

thats the one...a major low point - all the team were clueless and overweight.........

that was a big nightmare for you even more!!

I think one of the blokes from that band owns the The Crossing pub in Burton. At one time the next big band alongside The Clash. Went different paths at some stage it seems .

No Anti Pasti were never mainstream and certainly nowhere near the same class as the Clash. But they were bloody great and of course from Derby.

I defer to your knowledge on that one mate . I was about six at the time, so my insight is second hand .  It's a nice pub he's got . Done the normal thing of putting a few of his records up on the wall.

This is the one thing I’ll never get my head around. Over here we’ll all drink together at the same pub, at the game we’ll dish it out and of course sit there and take the crap when the game turns. At half time all mingle having a drink then same again till the end of the game then the whole crowd all leaves together. Last year when the Raiders beat the Storm in Melbourne, I stood outside the pub and just gave it to the locals. We just seem to have the idea that the winners enjoy themselves while the losers commiserate together. It’s the same with the ashes at the Gabba, the aussies and the poms will get together after play and have a great night.

Wouldn't say I have ever ended up in the wrong end but mistake but have on purpose gone in home ends due sold out ...

Huddersfield away in the FA Cup 5th round 1999. Got a bit crazy in the home end. Bloke next to us realised we were Derby but said you will be fine. Different story when everyone around us was pushing to get at the Derby fans lol. We kept quiet and were fine. Ended 2-2.

Villa v Derby late 90''s. Top of the table clash so must have been around September time I reckon. Drove up to Villa Park in the week to get a ticket. Away fans were behind the goal back then so we sat where the away fans now sit on the side of the pitch. No issue there. Being young and naive i actually put a Derby flag up over the railings before kick off which got a loud cheer from away end. Steward just said sorry mate cant go there and left it at that haha...

And finally the famous 4 -4 against Bradford! Early 2000's maybe .. Lots of Derby fans in there. Relegation battle if i recall so an important game. Cant remember how I got the ticket but on entering they were asking everyone for their postcodes. I wasn't prepared and a few of us got stopped from going in. Walked around the ground and then the Police gave us a 100m injuction to be away from the ground as they were claiming we were trying to sneak in through open doors, wasn't the case. Ended up back on the bus listening to it. What a game to miss!

Think thats about it for me ...
