As a former Oxford University Press editor I have no qualms in saying the Oxford comma is the most ridiculous idea in grammar and no one uses it (thank goodness). The Mint would have looked idiotic to put it in the inscription.

Where does it say that here?

As the government are splashing out 500million to resurrect the lines and stations closed by Dr Beeching back in the 1960's. I look forward to the reopening of Friargate Station. How they put the train lines back in place, may prove interesting.

Is this to be the example of the type of ill thought out policies we can come to expect from Johnson's government. Nice sound bite when it's announced but falls apart when it's held up to scrutiny.

Whats next, Johnson stands up at a meeting while a crowed of sycophants stand behind him chanting build the trains build the trains.

500m is a drop in the ocean to how much it would cost to reopen these lines. Most lines have had something built over the old alignment too.

It would be nice if they could get the ones that are already open to run properly.

I used to walk my dog up there when I was a kid.

Was still a bunch of neglected train stuff (my memory is hazy as to what exactly) was still strewn about in the old.... warehouse? No idea what that big building actually was. Definitely remember train axles in there though.

Northern Rail is one such railway company that is failing to deliver a good service. So much so that the government are thinking of taking back control of these services.

Isn't this called nationalization, something the Labour Party planned to do. But weren't we told by the tories and the right-wing press that this idea was madness, while costing us, the taxpayer, billions.

If they're still there, they may be of interest to the soon to be formed Boris Railway Company, as the axles will probably fit some of the ancient rolling stock still in use by Northern Rail.

The government has taken over the East Coast mainline (which I live close to) at least twice that I can remember.

Rail nationalisation is the least controversial and likely cheapest, as you basically just need to wait until the franchises run out and absorb them into the state. I don't think many people would argue against that, to be honest.

It was the nationalisations of Water, Energy and Royal Mail that would end up costing us a bloomin fortune.

What a state run organisation that's run for the good of the people.

Sounding like socialism to me.

Ah, let's nationalise Royal Mail, when they have only just got the infrastructure to cope with Internet sales.

You know, that thing that came along decades a go that they completely ignored. And those fancy barcodes that actually track parcels.

I'm sure the university of Derby would be happy as they knock down their new buildings to build the bridge back over Agard st.

Well as 11pm on Friday draws closer. The feeling of hope is fading by the minute with no cause for any celebrations.

Yes another transfer window is coming to a close, with no new signings for us. Never mind acquiring that fabled german defender.

Half and half scarves have somehow found their way into politics. But in all seriousness, this is actually quite a touching gesture.

The commemorative 50p coin and this tacky tea towels are bad enough.

But the half-n-half scarf is just wrong.
