None of these had got a clue what we are in need of !

they just keep recycling the same load of cr@p, perennial bottlers !

blood some of the youngsters who actually have a desire to win !

Don't keep playing those who are happy earning £30k a week to achieve the bare minimum !

We need balls - big balls - too many pussies in the current squad who won't roll up their sleeves and fight when the going gets tough. As had been said on the thread about the captaincy, we have a lot of captains (at previous clubs) that don't show any on field leadership if they're not wearing the armband. My biggest disappointed about Rowett is that he didn't identify the problem of on field leadership at the end of last season. When things go badly the captain has to grab hold of the team and encourage/cajole them - simply doesn't happen with the current incumbent - and I suspect a lot of the team are quite happy with that situation....

I find it amazing that there are some posters who actually believe that despite being amateurs with no practical experience they know better than those who are being paid to do it.  The championship is a league of fine margins, something clicks or a player steps up a gear.  Bryson in the Wembley year.

we should have won that game yesterday, Martin finding his scoring boots would be a start.  Always thought vydra would come but after watching the last 3 games I don't think he's got it

I know it sounds simple but a steady strong 442 formation with the players at our disposal

currently I would look forwards to

                    Carson

wisdom Keogh Davies Forsyth

russell Thorne Huddlestone Lawrence

                Martin  vydra

yes you can change the odd one here and there

Our problems currently seem to me to be entirely as a result of the numerous changes in manager over the last 3 or 4 seasons.

We've got a squad that is such a mishmash of ideas, some players only capable of playing in certain combinations of formation and team-mates, others without any defined role whatsoever.

Our central midfielders are so specialised to perform one role (down to McClaren making a success of 4-3-3, and Clement carrying it on), yet without a creative one we don't have the right blend to play this, we don't have any proper wide midfielders (is this Lawrence, because I've not seen him yet?) - we don't even have wingers anymore, we've just got 4 'inside forwards' and a right-sided jack of sweet FA, Anya.

Our best striker can only play as the focal point of a 4-3-3 for which we no longer have the players to play, if we play 2 up top our central midfields lack of mobility is painfully exposed, and we don't have wide-men who create anything.

In short, we need patience to let Rowett develop the squad. Decide how we're going to play (hopefully he's done that already), try and shift the players who don't fit (in progress, but thanks to McClaren, Clement, Pearson and Mel between them giving players ridiculous wages and long contracts, this will take time), then get players in who fit the system. In this regard, half our first team is there (back 6), only 5 more to go, plus back ups.

See you in 2 years time.

I couldn't put it better myself. Rowett just needs to be given the time to sort this mess of a squad out. I have every faith that he'll get it right in the end. Patience is needed...

I'd like to see a goalkeeper at Derby who actually knows how to keep goal! That would be a start. And how about some defenders who know how to defend ffs?! And some forwards who actually GET FORWARD?! And while we're at it, maybe some midfielders who actually MIDFIELD instead of running around NOT MIDFIELDING for 90+ mins - then driving their Bentleys home to their tanned wives and having M&S food for tea EVERY NIGHT. That's what we need at Derby and we also need a manager who isn't TOTALLY CLUELESS and perhaps an owner who ACTUALLY OWNS the club???

Rant over.

Close thread.

eh?

I too think that Mel has been our main problem, with his initial insistence on a head coach with little say on transfers. That system created the fires which the club has been fighting ever since. Fortunately, I think that Mel has learned and will allow Rowett to undertake the sort of rebuilding job which Nigel Clough did for us.

Yet your post seems to criticise Mel for not owning us. Do you know something that the rest of us don't? Is it time to reform the RPG? Tell me we don't have a massive loan with a shady foreign creditor.

A game changer/match winner, someone who can produce a bit of magic. A Kinkladze, Commons, Biano, someone who can turn a game with a bit of magic. Think we've been missing that ingredient for years. Ince was close but not quite in that league.
