ramsbottom
I'd snatch DCU's hand off, even waving the fee if needs be. We have plenty of cover in that position, and there's no point wasting valuable wages (he's got be on at least £10k) on a bench warmer. Decent player, but surplus to requirements... Anon
I don't understand the people in this thread claiming that Olsson is crap. You're obviously, hilariously, embarrassingly wrong in your assessments. Of course there are weaknesses in his game, just like any player at this level, but he's a perfectly good Championship full back. I'd sell him if there's any truth behind this rumour, but only because I think Forsyth is better and I want to see a path being created for promising youth players to the first team and having two good specialist left backs in front of Lowe goes against that philosophy. If he does go it will be with my praise for his performances in a Derby shirt and thanks for his winner against Forest, rather than embarrassing and pointless vitriol. He may be decent getting forward but defensively he is very poor, opponents recognised this last season and targeted him game after game. Spot on!???? Rample
Was on £13.5k at Blackburn so guessing around £15k here.
Barney1991
get rid and have forsyth and lowe and Macdonald as backup. At this rate the academy players aren't going to get a look in. I would like to see elsnik given a run aswell end of season. He looked good in some pre season games

That is of course a possibility - as is the possibility that you wouldn't recognise a decent full-back if your life depended on it
NewhallRam71
I came across Marcus with his brother and some other pals in New York a few week ago. They were at a charity game along with someone whom I was told was an agent who brings players to the MLS so there may be something in this. Marcus was a lovely guy, stood and had a chat and a few pics. If he can get a move out there good luck to him.

You have to assume that one of Forsyth or Lowe will be fit, can't just keep cover in case 2 left backs are out injured. I always think back to the signings of Johnson and Butterfield at this point, it would have been better in the long term to have used youngsters (large chunk of hindsight being used there), if Forsyth and Lowe are injured, we'll need to do the same, or get a loan. Emergency loans no longer exist now though. So unless injuries happen close to a transfer window then this couldn't happen. Although I agree 100% that we have more than enough cover in the LB position to allow Olsson to leave.

Ashz09
Rated him quite well. Then seen him against good Wingers, Especially towards the end of last Season when fans were commenting how easily he's getting beat. I then changed my opinion of him. Posh Ram
Olsson is the sort of player I'd happily sell as part of thinning out the squad, which GR clearly wants to achieve. He's not as good as Forsyth or Lowe, but I'd suspect his wages are surprisingly high.

He doesn't actually get beat that much, he just doesn't bother trying to stop crosses coming in.

In football terms it can also be worth doing. Alan Hinton went and never came back; Giles Barnes has established himself there and is playing well, living a good life. Marcus isn't a certain starter at Derby by any means and I expect wants to play as he knows there are only a few years left. If I were in his position I would want to go, and from my position over here I would wish him well. I think it would work for all parties, not because he isn't any good when he clearly has ability, but because he's not necessary at Derby where as this thread has shown, we have nearly an entire team of players with experience at left back. StarterForTen
Thing is about the Major League players don't earn nearly as much as journeymen over here do. I'm sure I read that the average is 160,000 dollars a year (£120,000). That's a nice salary of course, but probably considerably less than anyone in the Derby first team squad earns, and certainly a lot less than a senior like Olsson. Think it depends on whether they're a marquee player or not - In most of their sports they have a number of players in the squad they can pay more - I think it might be 5 in the MLS Franchise players! That's what they're called!
JuanFloEvraTheCocu'sNesta
As it stands he is a better option than Lowe. Lowe has put in some good performances but can't be relied upon as he currently appears to be made entirely of glass. Absolutely has the potential to be a better player than Olsson but as it stands I would much rather have Olsson and Forsyth as my options in that position. LazloW
IMHO Olsson is the best left back at the club (controversial, I know), but the margins between him and the alternatives are not so great that I would be endeavouring to keep him on the books if an offer came in. I broadly agree with the consensus that the squad needs trimming a bit and selling Ollson would have benefits in this regard without undue or significant impact on the team. He is another player at the club who is decent without being spectacular. We have a few of these, and while they shouldn't be deified, neither should they be slaughtered either. Often seems to be no middle ground.
