International call ups are a lottery. Last year Bobby Duncan was called up for the u20s having not trained or played for Derby! There have been dozens of players over the years who’s club form hasn’t warranted international call ups at all levels and all nations. Rooney himself won several caps based on previous England form as opposed to his club form. It’s just the way it is.
As Derby fans, judgement of Jozwiak should be solely on his form for Derby.

Agree with that. BHA do look the better side. Although they have Molumby in centre mid who’s a full ROI international and played 40 odd Championship games for Millwall and Preston on loan

I’m not sure if it’s at all practical or if it’s even realistic to do because so many young players in a side can be catostrophic…..but if we just forgot the ages and played square pegs in square holes based on performances so far (inc pre season) I’d pick :-
                             Roos
    Festy.  Stearman.   Davis.    Forsyth.

               Morrison.            Bird.
    Sibley.         Lawrence.     Hutchinson.

                          Stretton.

subs : Allsop, Watson, Byrne, Shinnie, Williams, Brown, Jozwiak.
That’s harsh on Watson but I see him as a CM and I think Bird and Morrison have individually looked good in those roles. Also harsh on Shinnie but like I say this isn’t necessarily the most practical team just the one where individually I feel they’ve played best in those roles.

    Assuming Buchanan not fit yet.

The tone of this match was set after seven minutes when the thug who looks to have broken Tyree Wilson’s leg was not even given a yellow card, let alone the red card that the challenge deserved.

I'd suggest it's unprofessional for any Derby players to be using the Covid app and risk being pinged at the moment. Surely all the players are tested regularly for actual Covid? Why voluntarily put yourself in a position where you may have to take 10 days off when, if you were infected, you'd show on a test anyway.
The app is outdated and no longer useful. Official guidance has already changed so that you no longer have to isolate if pinged if you're double-jabbed. All the players will surely shortly have had their second jabs if not already. Continuing to use the app at this point is pointless.

I agree and it gets my goat. I know it’s competitive and no one expects a favour but that was excessive at best and reckless at worst…seen less get punished with reds!

I don’t understand referees. Even if the fella took the ball, that to me, looked like ‘excessive force’ which needs to be stamped out.

Marshall obviously as he isn’t going to play much
Lawrence because we just wouldn’t miss a player that doesn’t turn up and we can get a fee for him before his contract expires
jozwiak - if we can get our money back - unless he want to start performing a lot better
thats it currently - keep the youth

Was just about to post this. Watching last night I wasn’t sure if Joz had contributed much at all but on seeing the clips again he was involved in almost all our better goalscoring moments inc the first goal.

I read this type of criticism often about Bird & I wonder what I'm seeing so differently. The modern game rewards players that don't go to ground when defending. This is exactly what Max is so good at...his positioning & sense of 'danger' is very good which means he often tracks the runner & either intercepts the ball or eases the runner off the ball.
I rate Bird's defensive work higher than Shinnie, who is old school, goes to ground but gets more plaudits from our fans because he's high energy & they equate that with 'passion'. Unfortunately the reason for that is because he's often drifting out of position & slow to react to danger so his only option is to do 'last ditch'.

I think Bird's defensive work is really under-rated & actually been impressed with how well Morrison has screened the back 4. He's also good in the air, always a good trait for a DM. Re Dembele, his most effective period was when Morrison had left the field & Shinnie was doing little to stop him running straight onto the back 4.
Don't disagree Ebosele has some positional issues but he'd have to go some to defend as badly as Byrne yesterday. Having such an experienced back 4 should help him also. Idea is his pace would drive back their left side anyway & his pace probably be more effective coming from deep.

Absolutely. That was my point really. That’s where he was getting more of the ball and playing his passes. As the game wore on Salford’s positioning was deeper which in turn affected ours. His actual position did t change he was just further up the pitch slightly as was everyone else. He still was largely unopposed in terms of pressure on the ball.
I don’t disagree with what you feel are his assets ? I just feel they’re better served getting the ball to other players in the final third as opposed to receiving it in the final third ?
I don’t disagree. Which is why for me at the moment he’s not a starter. We have more effective players in the final third (he was also largely ineffective there v Notts County too remember?) and as you say we’d be massively exposed if he was one of the holders. Also, as you say we aren’t going to score many so being tight at the back is essential.
    Good discussion ?

For those putting Watson in as an attacking midfielder you need to consider Brentford last season on his full debut where he came off after 45 mins and Huddersfield this season where he came off after 50…..
Its not his best position. He is far better suited deeper where he is largely unopposed on the ball and has time to pick his head up and find his passes. That’s far more difficult and requires a different skill set to do further up the pitch where there’s less space and more pressure on the ball.
It’s similar to the Festy situation where we are being fooled by the fact that he’s creative so must play at the top end….when he’s better creating from deeper.
He’s far more likely to be a replacement for Bird.
