Ellafella, they should have one of those blue plaques put up at the bell to commemorate the forming of DCFC, do you know which room/bar was used for these historic events?

It was the gentleman’s bar at the back of the hotel, down the courtyard, I actually took all of the 1880s shirts down there and we did some Rams Heritage Trust photos, back at the official birthplace where the decisions were made !

Couldn't let this day pass without reminding us...it all began today...134 years ago.

On this day 134 years ago, Derby County travelled to Pikes Lane, Bolton. They travelled by train. They were 15 minutes late and so kick-off was delayed. The delay unsettled the team because they fell 0-3 behind quickly but rallied after the break to win 6-3. Derby's goals came from George Bakewell (2), Lewis Cooper (2) and 'Lol' Plackett (2). Derby had poached all of those players from local rivals.

Ten of the twelve teams took part in the first ever round of Championship fixtures on Saturday, 8 September 1888 and although no league table was published in any of the newspapers of the time West Bromwich Albion would have been the very first table toppers. By modern-day calculations, Derby County would have been the first ever table toppers because of their superior goal difference which was +3 after the first game. Albion won 2–0 at Stoke in front of 4,500 spectators and would have headed Preston North End, Derby County and Everton by virtue of an infinite goal average as they kept a clean sheet. Goal Average was the number of goals scored divided by the number of goals conceded. Goal Average was used to separate teams who were tied on points at that time. Preston defeated Burnley 5–2, Derby were 6–3 winners at Bolton and Everton secured the points in a 2–1 victory over Accrington. Aston Villa defender Gershom Cox was thought to have earned the distinction of scoring the first ever league goal with an unfortunate own goal in a 1–1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fred Dewhurst opening the scoring minutes later at Preston with the first intentional goal. However the post-match reports of relative kick-off times show most games were delayed allowing for crowds to assemble. A goal by England and Bolton winger Kenny Davenport 2 minutes into the match against Derby County was scored comfortably before any other and is now regarded as the first ever football league goal.

To put it all in context, as the Derby Team would have been arriving back at Derby station later that evening, the London newspapers would have also been arriving by train in Derby and would have been detailing how earlier that morning the body of Annie Chapman was discovered in Whitechapel, London. She was the 2nd victim of Jack the Ripper.

The picture below shows Pikes Lane Bolton and then the shirt Derby County wore that day, thanks to @loweman2for re-producing such a brilliant and quality item.

I will raise a glass tonight in celebration.

Some sterling work there by young @Ellafella great to see ! One very small point just so we have it correct and I know that he knows this, the shirt above is the very first shirt that we wore in 1884 at our birth, the very first league shirt worn in 1888 was the brown and amber with blue sleeves.

  3. Also the point has been raised that it would be dependant on the inside pages being of a similar condition to the outside, the rusting of the staples could cause further degradation of the paper over time so may need to be removed.

Hi Guys, I've got to an age (early 70's) where I've accumulated a load of stuff and feel its time to reduce it, whilst at the same time tick off 'Bucket List' activities before it's too late.  And next year I hope to trek to Everest Base Camp.

I've got a 1946 Cup Final programme with match ticket and a 1975 Charity Shield programme also with a match ticket.  A good reasonable offer is acceptable.

Hi Dave the fa cup programme looks to be in fairly decent condition with no tears or folds but a bit of rust stapling, that would be around £150, the ticket would be around £100, unfortunately the Charity shield programme and ticket are not so valuable probably around £20, hopefully that gives you some idea. Good luck with the Everest trek ! I would be interested as I’m sure many others would in other Derby stuff that you may be looking to move on.

I was about to state that I'm not sure anyone is finding it hard to understand... certainly not me... but (mistakenly?) thought it fair to respond, and add my own comments within an open forum discussion thread... but with your use of capitals, and the general "tone" of your post, it appears (*rightly or wrongly?) anger and/or frustration is setting in, so probably best if a say nowt further!

I was also going to ask you a members email related question, but your post above appears to suggest (*rightly or wrongly?) that your 20 year membership trumps my mere 12 year membership, to the point that my comments here aren't welcome.  That, coupled with your first line above, suggests I'd be wasting my time... and that of the reader... by doing so, so I'll refrain from asking, and seek such advice elsewhere.

I'll repeat my thanks for your kind warning to those this may affect, and add my apologies for my part in any causation in the aforementioned (assumed, rightly or wrongly!*) anger/frustration.

*I appreciate you won't be responding, so I guess we'll never know, now.

    UTR, an' all that.  ??

No not shouting, just trying to make it clear what I was trying to explain about what was changing, glad you were on the right wavelength all along, all ways happy to try and give help or advice so please ask away, though I must point out Costco parking on a match day is not my specialist subject, thanks for you contribution to the thread but I’m not sure if between us and B4 we may have caused a little confusion!

any how I’m sure that the good folk of it in here will make of it what they will and apologies to @i-Rambut CLEAR YOUR EARS OUT LAD !

    ????

  6. This is the last post I will make in this,

AUTOMATIC NUMBER PLATE RECOGNITION IS WHAT HAS CHANGED ,

a third party will now send out fines TO ANYBODY WHO PARKS FOR LONGER THAN 90 MINUTES ON A SATURDAY!

I know it has always been the rule as I have been a Costco member for 20 years but they have now changed the way that car parking is policed to prevent Derby County or any other fan parking on a Matchday, it will automatically be enforced !

it really is not hard to understand! ????????????❤️❤️❤️❤️

What I am saying mate never been allowed to park there on match day

When my dad had tiers down they gave him a letter place on his car explaining this so he did not get a parking ticket.

Yes and what I am saying is that people still have, you were allowed to if you were a member under the pretence of shopping in Costco, however now you only have a maximum of 90 minutes if you are a member, if you stay for longer than 90 minutes you will get a ticket, even if you are a member ! That is what people need to know ! If they are members and have been parking there !

Mate that nrothing new never been allowed to park therefore days unless your having tiers done but dad done that in the past and they gave him a letter to stick on his car explaining that having work done on it.

No mate there is now automatic number plate recognition that will send out automatic fines, it’s not just being policed by friendly Costco car park employees !

So it’s at Pride Park? That’s great.  Wasn’t it planned for a local football teams home ground originally?

Once David clowes took over he was very receptive of the idea and proposition from us, so it’s been installed right inside the main entrance the bronze bust is worth around £8k and getting it insured from theft and damage was expensive so we are also paying for a concrete resin replica and plaque to also be installed at field lane to recognise his work further for grass roots, so we have managed to do two tributes and lasting recognitions.

  10. I will be adding more to this over the next few days but today we were very proud to unveil the lasting memory to Reg, it is now situated in the reception at pride park, we rethought the logic, the bronze bust will be placed there and a replica will also be installed at Field Land FC in Alvaston.

we are really proud to have got this over the line, planning permission and Covid 19 delayed matters but it is now in situ and for all to see.
