He lost the plot a bit second half didn't he?
Was it 3 formation changes? I couldn't tell what was going on, not sure players could either.
NML played right wing, left wing, up front and right wing back in the space of half an hour.
Most comical was Nyambe somehow ending up at left wing back

Don't think we could afford Eustace at this point. And I think he would be wise to wait for a Championship club TBH.
I think Steve Round might be the best option for us. Respected coach. Connections at big clubs which helps with decent loans. Could sell a vision to more technically able players. Currently unemployed. Connection to the area.

Just aiming for the top 6 isn't good enough and was never the target anyway. I remember warne even saying in pre season the target is automatic promotion.
We have probably the best squad in the division. Why would that be a problem for a potential new manager?

If he goes now we should still make the play offs.... automatic gone already due to the huge gap and we're still in October

Steve Evans has turned Stevenage into a more competent team than Paul Warne has Derby on roughly a fifth of the budget - without the benefit of a category one academy to utilise.
We’re both playing the same type of football, they’re just better at it. What a sad day in the history of this club.

Genuine question about Warne ball. If the players downed tools and stopped playing for him, how would we tell?

Much needed win and obviously better than shrewsbury. Lets not get ahead of ourselves though, we were playing arguably the worst team in the division who are completely out of form. We played ok, but there is still no real pattern to our play, we just rely on moments. Max Bird clearly a level above the rest of the team. Nyambe very good defensively, but quite limited going forward, Hourihane good on the ball but i worry his legs may be going. Cashin and Nelson were decent but considering the opposition i wouldn't expect anything else. Collins absolutely terrible.

When you look at other teams getting there management recruitment spot on I do find myself somewhat envious
It didn’t need to be a so called L1 specialist to get us out of this crap division …just needed a manager to get what Liam had recruited playing cohesively with a few different plans
Leicester recruited a manager from city’s back room staff and watching there highlights this season in pains me to say they will walk the championship he is not a championship expert but knows how to play football and keep the ball …
not arrogance or entitlement at all but we should be the Leicester in L1 …the team to beat ….but quite simply we aren’t and here lies the problem Warne ( who I like ) will not all of a sudden change his own philosophy on how we play so I don’t see a happy ending
any manager that wants to play decent football on the grass and who can coach some resuits from the touch line is what I’d like to see
so a Eustace , Warburton or any manager that encourages domination of the ball and looking after the ball and getting the best out of our midfielders is my wish and hope Warne finds a more suitable team to manage

Everybody saying sacking manager after manager under morris got us to this point. I’d say more on the lines the stupid player ck tracts got us into the mess. Butterfields and Johnson’s on 30 grand a week. Spending 3 million on Blackman who had 6 months contract left was ridiculous. We got roughly 7 million for rowett and lampard that pays for the other managers.

the only manager we shouldn’t of sacked was McLaren the second time round and clement when we were 5th

Being too quick to fire managers in the past is not a reason to stick with a manager performing well below expectations in the present.

Think it's a bit worrying that our owner seemingly can't afford to change manager. Can't help but feel like that's something you should be able to do at any point if you're going to run a football club.

A lot on here are talking expectation and not ambition.
Our ambition has to be playing in the top division of English football. Being sustainable and competitive in that division, with a sprinkling of academy players in the team.
Anyone who wants less than that, then frankly I don't know why you bother.

I think you hit at the core of why I think keeping Warne on board is going to hurt us long term and isn't the neutral option people often opine it to be.
You have to take a step back and realise how asymmetrical the footballing system is and how uneven the playing field is to succeed at the highest levels. A club like ours either needs a robust plan to overcome that sustainably as we will likely never be big enough or attract the kinds of backing to seriously compete. (And even if we do we risk the trajectory of what happened under MM).
Essentially we need something or a set of things we can do differently in order to level things out. And if you look at the success of clubs who have some degree of sustainability and not just relied on boom/bust investment they all have that element to them. I.e. Brentford, Southampton.
The one major advantage we have as a club is geographical in that we have quite a sizeable catchment area where we can realistically compete for talent at youth levels, talent that otherwise might be prohibitive to acquire after they've matured. But we need to plan with this in mind. We need to have strong development pathways from academy to first team with firm incentives about taking risks on bringing people through and giving them time.
It's what was so frustrating about last season to me. Last season was practically as free a hit as you get as a club. It was a season to get our ducks in a row and reset as a club. We should have been giving serious game time to developing academy players and recent academy graduates like Thompson. It was a season we could afford to take risks on players  This would have given us a solid foundation of a squad to work from that would improve over time. Instead we kick Thompson on loan and then find ourselves short of cover. Warne is clearly reluctant to trust academy players to the point where its actively detrimental. In a nothing game with a lead once again we were playing players past the point of exhaustion (some of which like bird who are coming off injuries) rather than giving someone game time.
It feeds into my feelings that as a manager he struggles to see beyond the surface level and struggles to see the bigger picture whether it's tactical, player fitness management or overall club development.

Well, I would have brought Davidson on the wing as well as Brown up front, would have loved to see them run against tired legs. There was loads of space up front towards the end of the game.

and I don't know about you, but I'm much more willing to accept mistakes and failure when it's academy lads trying their hearts out and making a mistake, than the lack of effort or mistakes we get from old journeymen.

What sort of message does it send out if the players are called up to the matchday squad knowing Warne won't give them a go anyway?
Darren Robinson was named in a matchday squad for the first time under Warne in October last season, coming off the bench in the Pizza Cup against Mansfield. Since then, he has been named in 7 other squads and never used, including 2 games this season where were were 2-0 up (Lincoln and Carlisle)

At no point have I said we should have started a different 11. I have however said we should have brought the likes of Allen, Davidson and Brown on around the 70 minute mark to give us fresh energy. At this point, our midfield was getting overrun and we were getting nothing out of Collins.
Fornah and Collins were the main liabilities over that final 20 minutes. Allen would have added fresh legs to our midfield, whilst Brown wouldn't be a red card waiting to happen and may have actually known where his feet were in and around the box.
Warne has openly said he wanted to bring them on at 3-0. That's just ridiculous. He's basically saying a couple of young players will cost us a 2 goal lead with less than 20 minutes left on the clock. He didn't even trust them enough to bring 3 on with just 90 seconds of the game remaining, instead just bringing Brown on.

Why put them on the bench then? I’m sorry but these games are a little step up from academy games, which is why a load of U21s teams are playing in it.

The only things we got out the game are confirming as a team we’re crap at finishing and that Sibley is our main goal threat and PW should have played him more when fit.
