I'm at the stage where I don't care who the first signing is. I just want to be informed on the morning of the first day of the transfer window, that we have signed a player. Quickly followed by the announcement of at the least 5 or 6 more signings.
I don't want to see weeks of speculation on who's coming or more worryingly going. I want us to have our squad sorted with the exceptions of a few loan players before they report for preseason training.

I downloaded Wyscout for a trial run to see if it’s something that I would find of interest so did a little bit of a deep dive on the players we have been linked with so far.
Anyone that knows the Wyscout platform will already be aware it’s an absolutely fascinating and groundbreaking tool for scouting players and teams.
The most notable data point I came away with was that Ruben Rodrigues made the most ‘smart passes’ in the country last season with 131. A smart pass is defined as: A creative and penetrative pass that attempts to break the opposition's defensive lines to gain a significant advantage in attack.
To give you a reference point of just how high that is, not a single player in League Two had more than 40. Chaplin and Bannan ran away with it in League One with 58 each, third had 39. Mendez-Laing had 16 as our best midfielder in that regard, Knight second with just 12. The app also clips videos of several different indicators for each match - 40 minutes dedicated to just Ruben Rodrigues touches, 175 videos. He’s a talented football, a little bit of a grafter and based on what I’ve seen I would be surprised if he didn’t make the step up comfortably. The only reference point that I felt fell short was his impact on the counter attack, but he’s definitely got a bit of physicality. I think with a full, professional pre-season then he genuinely could be a diamond at this level.

Imagine playing for a football club for 10 years and your reward is a game against Stoke. Think I’d retire

Let go by Arsenal and Rangers.  Couple of sub games at Palace followed by a very non descript loan at Hull.  Sometimes your better off staying at a club where you've found your feet.  Ebosele, Morrison and Byrne are 3 others.  Could have been sat back in the championship now with extended contract offers rather than getting splinters in the back of beyond.  Particularly damaging for Ebosele with all these ex and current ROI players at the club.  He'd have a number of caps by now if he'd stayed.

Surprised not to see Martyn Waghorn v Sheffield Wednesday (May 2021) mentioned so far. Scored twice & hit the pass to Roberts for the other goal in the 3-3 draw that kept us up. He ran around like a man possessed all game & when subbed at the point of exhaustion, was still vocally encouraging the lads from the sidelines in the empty stadium.
Had we lost that match (and we were behind twice), we'd have been hit with the 21 point deduction in League One the following year & been struggling to keep out of League Two. His contribution that day was the best individual performance I can recall watching.

Mo or Razza? I think they both have a decent shout of claiming that slot!

Would be wary of paying fees for players if his age to be honest. Any transfer budget should be going on players with resale potential . Especially as his scoring is quite streaky

    Yes it’s that bloody game!
Yes there is a lot we can look at and dissect, how the players celebrated, how Jody Morris celebrated it, Lampard’s 11 in the play off final, Lampard’s failure in not getting that squad promoted, Morris’ spending gamble, the comparisons of then to now etc etc etc
But I can promise any Derby or other clubs fans reading this, I don’t think I’d trade you anything for the jubilation and emotions I felt that night. It didn’t mean anything in the end no, but it’s a game like this that watching football is all about. It’s not just an achievement feeling, it’s about doing the impossible

Don’t buy that Bird isn’t a good captain. Unless my maths is wrong he captained the side for 17 of the 19 game unbeaten streak, the only games he wasn’t captain for during that period was the final 2 games of that run when Davies came back in because of Cashin’s injury, was even people calling him ‘captain fantastic’ after the goal at Cheltenham. So Bird would be my pick, though I can see the merit behind Forsyth as club captain with Bird carrying on as vice captain.

Would still rather us operate mostly in the free agent market, at least at first, there’s a strange amount of quality in there this year. Lifted restrictions is ideal for loan fees and paying compensation on young players who might get offered contracts though (Roberts), hopefully we can offer some longer contracts too, brilliant news
