Cocu was the right Manager at the wrong time. Everything was stacked against him from day one. Very decent guy too.

Mike te Wierik? Nearly 4 million quid for Jozwiak?

Phillip Cocu resigns from first job since leaving Derby

Phillip Cocu resigned as Vitesse head coach after the home defeat to SC Heerenveen

Former Derby County boss Phillip Cocu has resigned as head coach of Eredivisie side Vitesse.

Cocu was appointed by Vitesse little over a year ago, in September 2022, in what was his first job in football since parting company with the Rams in November 2020. The former Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven and Vitesse midfielder guided the team to 10th in the Dutch top flight last season but leaves them bottom of the table this term, having managed only eight points from 12 matches.

Cocu took the decision to step down from his post after the 3-1 home defeat to SC Heerenveen on Saturday. The club said in a statement: "The former footballer of the Arnhem team took over in September 2022 from then head coach Thomas Letsch, who left for VfL Bochum. Under the leadership of Cocu, the Arnhem team still achieved an impressive tenth place in the Eredivisie after a very difficult season.

We've been over this so many times. But you clearly cannot grasp it and feel you have to surface whenever the first team win a game.

Ok, here it is again, please try to understand it this time....

    We do not "hate" Warne.

We just believe he should do better with the squad he has, the resources that he has available and make better use of the academy.

We do not agree with many of his team selections, his tactics or his substitutions.

Yes, we beat a very poor, low lying Port Vale, rah, rah, rah but can you look further than that - at the longer term future of the club?

You know what pragmatism is the keyword here, the objective is to get out of League 1 and if we achieve that then the means will justify the ends

Nothing wrong with being positive at all.

    Here's your chance.

Could you list the positives under the current manager? A genuine question. I'll start, he signed a good lad in Nelson and I rate him.

He upsets a group of forum members on here

Apologies in advance if this just sounds like a load of waffle.

My issue with Paul Warne is that I don’t feel like he’s getting the most out of what he has available. Yes, we have lost our target man but you adjust accordingly and change the style to suit what you have. He seems to have a certain way of playing with very little ability or willingness to tweak it.

He’s a nice enough bloke. I don’t like his interviews and try to avoid them as they often make me cringe.

I don’t think he has much ability for developing players, if anything it’s the opposite. How many players have been bit parts or seemed to have disappeared, for example Smith and Fornah etc. These are players he’s signed, if they don’t end up in and around the squad he’s basically wasted wages.

Yesterday was hard to watch when we were going toward. First half NML and Sibley were basically playing as wingers, out wide, expected to beat their man, try and cut inside and left with limited options. There was no runners from the midfield. Second half the only threat was Wilson from the right wing, who wasted multiple opportunities to play a ball into the box after doing the hard work.

We seem to have no ability to open team up with intricate passing. Everything is play it out wide and whip a cross in. With no height in the box, unless you play that ball across the floor likelihood is it will be cleared and us put back on the counter. I absolutely hate the fact that we can no longer pass a ball more than four times without losing it and 3 of those passes will be sideways or backwards.

The midfield was all wrong yesterday. Bird and Hourihane were guilty of far too many side and backward balls. It completely neutralises the attack. Get your head up and look for NML and Sibbs who should be waiting to be fed the ball and charge at the defence or hold it up for the midfield to catch up.

For me, now we have Adam’s covering the middle of the park we have no excuse to not use players like Thompson and Fornah ahead of him to drive the ball forward. Both are capable of carrying the ball and trying to find a forward pass.

If we try and play how we do when Collins is in the team then signing Gayle will have been a waste of time and money.

The Academy is another concern, Paul has no interest in seeing players feed through. Weston for example was bright when he had his chances, only to disappear back to the academy not to be seen again. Fapetu and Robinson as well looked like very good prospects.

I don’t feel like Paul’s using any of the resources he has available as well as he could, the style of play isn’t particularly interesting to watch, I won’t argue that we are in a good position for the final stretch of the season but also feel like this squad is capable of a far more exciting style of football and would definitely compete towards the top end of the league.

    Apology accepted

Clowes appointed Warne to get us a quick promotion & that was the expectation of everyone when he was appointed (and why Rosenior was let go). To take your most extreme hypothetical scenario, as the pure remit for Warne being here is a short term focus of promotion, then defeat at Wembley would still be complete failure with no guarantee of promotion the next year & need to continue down the highly paid experienced pro with no resale value route that Warne prefers. I suspect Clowes will be considering how much longer he can tolerate that misalignment with the long term DCFC strategy come May should we faill to go up.

Had to do a RoyMac and ignore the majority of your post and focus on one minutiae.....

Not sure on the assertion in bold, I certainly didn't expect us to get promoted the first season Warne was in charge so that kind of makes what you've said invalid (depends what your interpretation of "quick" is I guess)

Did Clowes also say the same thing?

Got to say I agree with @S8TY here. I’ve counter-argued plenty of times when people have posted saying “Warne has no pull”, however from what I’ve seen no one has said anything of the sort on this thread, which means your post reads as being deliberately antagonistic.

I agree with the point you’re making in general, but was it called for in this moment? I think not.

I agree nobody said that comment on this thread.

But hopefully now that's closed that line of complaint down as I think it's a good move for us.

  7. This did make me laugh when I read it, Chris Wilder was fined today for improper conduct towards the referee and their assistant at a recent game:-

As well as criticising Harrington, Wilder also accused one of his assistants of showing a "lack of respect" for eating a sandwich when he went to speak to them after the game.

Wonder what kind of sandwich it was for Wilder to take so much offense. Or maybe Wilder was hungry and wanted a bite but the refs assistant told him to do one.

If it had been a baguette would it have been a different story.

It may or may not be Warne's fault but that doesn't mean it's nobody's fault.   We needed a striker and we didn't get one.   If we'd put the CBT money towards, for example,  Chris Martin that to me would have made more sense.   I don't want to go on about it because it's done now but it's not as if the need for a striker is only being seen now we went into the window with most saying that's the priority.

It may or may not be Warnes fault but that doesn't mean it's nobody's fault.

That's that argument put to bed then
