taffyram reacted to brady1993 in Liam Rosenior
Overall I'm more positive about Rosenior now than when he was first announced.
I think there is a few things people should be keeping in mind.
First is that using average xG to compare us to the rest of the league is premature to draw any conclusions. It's a noisy statistic and I highly doubt 4 games is enough to draw a meaningful conclusion from or to compare us to the rest of the league.
Secondly is that we are tactically trying to embed something new with a largely new squad and with a really short pre season. It takes time for these to properly embed and gain fluidity. And we likely haven't even seen the true plan A yet what with the lack of a RB and McGoldrick not being fit so far. So any talk of plan b or shifting things is premature because frankly we need this time to properly embed what we are trying to do for this season and beyond. People talk about lack of bravery but ultimately that comes from the above. It's much easier to be brave when match fit, tactically clued up and familiar with your teammates.
To be honest with all that said I think 7 from 12 points is a really good return. It's positive because we are picking up points at a good rate whilst misfiring a bit as things embed tactically. And I don't expect we will be in full flow at least for another month or two.
I think the plan tactically at an abstract level is a good one and if well executed will see us being able to dominate games and break down teams that play a low block more comfortably than last season. Two physical fast wingers stretch the pitch and provide a option to go long. They can stay forwards almost the entire time which keeps the opposition wary as we can break easily if they overcommit. They can do this because of the inverted fullbacks who support the midfield. Both of these factors also lead in turn to allowing a lot of space and attacking freedom to the two 8s or the 8 and the 10 in midfield so they can in theory hurt teams. Its a good plan with solid tactical thinking behind and we've only seen glimpses of it firing so far.
My only concern is the persistence with trying a midfield with Smith and Hourihane as the advanced options which has looked unbalanced and stagnant since the friendly with Leicester. This is the part that I just don't see Roesnior's think aside from a misguided attempt to keep things tight, go with experience when in doubt and play the new players. Its just not working though and needs addressing going forwards. Especially as I think we have the players to fix the problems. Any of Sibley, Knight, McGoldrick or Thompson played over one of them likely sees a better balance.
If nothing else I think the time has come to evaluate whether we are actually going to get a RB before the window closes and if not perhaps it's time to move Knight from that position and convert Smith to it.
TLDR; It takes time to set a team up from nothing, time we haven't had. Whilst there can be concerns so far this is better than expected for this point in the season.

taffyram reacted to B4ev6is in I cant wait for Fleetwood on ssturday
I really cant wait for Fleetwood on saturday and with another sell out away game do I think we need to play 2 upfront yes I do or a front 3 upfront we make to easy for opposition knowing playing 1 upfront with like 2 wing backs. Do I think we need to be playing with goldmick fit to play but needs time get upto speed do think james Collins needs to play with another striker or attacking midfielder some like selby that not afford to turn and run at player if not selby then maybe they prestion striker we signed or move lang upfront that will scare defenders to death.

Just flick a lighter on and watch them point, grunt in panic and scatter. Anything they haven't come across before like fire, a wheel or some soap terrifies them.

Nice to know we're still very important to Small Heath & the Parmo Parasites. Singing about us when they're not even playing us...clearly desperate for some attention. We've got bigger fish to fry than those two.
Were a few Boro at Kings Cross yesterday evening along with plenty of Derby, didnt hear a peep out of them. Did take the liberty to rip off a couple of their cringey stickers from the walls though. Loudest in the station were Gateshead bizarrely, clearly a proxy for Newcastle.

Surely it would have been sufficient comeback to point out that they live in Midslesbrough

taffyram reacted to mozza in mo55y's Prediction League updates, 2022/23 season.
Prediction League point scorers for league games, and occasional league tables will be posted in here ..
PREDICTION LEAGUE RULES
Every league game, I will start a thread on the 'Prediction League' page. I will go through the predictions you post after each game and look for your prediction, and I'll attempt to keep a league table running.
It would help immensely if you could post the result in the following format
example :- Ipswich 0 Derby 2 , Mendez-Laing FRGS
Points will be gained for the following correct predictions:
1 / For correctly nominating the winning team or a draw: +1 point
2 / For correctly nominating the first Rams goalscorer: +2 points
3 / For correctly predicting no Derby goals: +2 points ya miserable b'stards
4 / For correctly nominating the scoreline , ** with the teams the right way around ** , +2 points (so 3, including the point for predicting the winning team)
And no conditionals. No "If Sibley starts, then we'll win, but if he's on the bench we'll draw" stuff - pick a result and go for it.
A total of 5 points can be picked up per game.
I'll be looking at the last prediction you make in the thread. Only predictions made before kickoff will count, and if you go back and modify your prediction after kickoff, I'll not count it.
Just for fun and bragging rights , i'll attempt to make League Tables as i did last season , maybe not updating after every match but periodicly depending on how enthusiastic i become , all your predictions will be safely stored on my trusty fag packet memory stick
**unless blatantly obvious , ie 2-0 Mendez-Laing FRGS , which will be allowed , even if Derby are away ** ..
Please try and avoid using players 'nicknames' as 'FRGS' as i may not recognise them.
NEW PLAYERS ALWAYS WELCOME AND CAN JOIN IN THE FUN AT ANY TIME DURING THE SEASON

taffyram reacted to Srg in New Kits 22-23 Season
The temporary kit would be a lot better if the “sponsor” was black with white writing rather than the weird cream colour it turned out to be.

Unless they continue with the temporary kits they've been using.
They could write their names on with marker pens. It already looks as though the numbers are just black gorilla tape cut to shape.

taffyram reacted to Bob The Badger in Said no Derby fan ever
It's the off season, so what are some things you'd never hear a Derby fan say.
I'll kick off with a few:
I have a real soft spot for Kenny Burns.
Bobby Campbell was a much underrated striker.
I always knew that Claude Davis was the final piece of the jigsaw prior to the 2007 season
Robert Maxwell loved the club and the city with all of his heart.
Leeds were too big to come down, I'm happy for them.
It was great to see Cloughie take over down the road.
We never really deserved to beat QPR, it was a fair result.
I really admire the sportsmanship of Brice Samba.
I felt terrible for the home fans when Marriott's second goal went in during the playoffs.
I quite liked the BBG, but it never really had much atmosphere.
I thought the ref in the Juventus game was outstanding.
And finally, for @B4ev6is - I LOVE those pink shirts.

Look those people throwing abuse at you are idouts and not really derby fans many of us are desperate for you to save us you and rooney make us great again I just know just give mel what ever he wants so we all can move on.

taffyram reacted to PistoldPete in The whole squad wants to stay.
There should be no reason why we cannot renew contracts once Kirchner's plan is approved by EFL. We have proof of funding as Kirchner has said he will fund us after 7 May.
