Best atmosphere at PP for me was against Boro in the late 90s? - we had a man sent off (maybe Darryl Powell) and got a late winner.

I dont actually think the atmosphere is too bad but I am in the South Stand.   There's a few songs that aren't great - Spirit in the Sky is just a dirge and Collins' do wah diddy is never getting popular but I'm not going to knock anyone that sings just 'cause I think the song isnt the best.

Of those listed, I’d only want Nyambe at RB in a four-man defence.
Ward and Wilson are RWBs in a 5 or right midfielders in a four.
NML is a winger, pure and simple. He shouldn’t be in our half.

Option 2 - I listen to him talk on the radio and think he seem's ok but then I see how uncoached we look on the pitch and think these players should be producing more.

Our best play seems to be the most un-Warne like - the goals last night an example.  He seems to want to stick to his principles but they keep not working so he goes back to letting the players play a bit and we improve.  Of course I could be wrong but  that's how it seems.   Substitutions - how often do we see players come in in position x, then go to position y when someone else comes - it all looks a bit try something different and hope  rather than identifying an opposition weakness and exploiting it.

If it wasn't for the financial implications for the club and the fact I don't trust them to appoint anyone decent I'd, reluctantly, be full Warne out already.  I never thought he'd work - anyone that admits on national radio that he's not a student of the game (that bbc series that followed him) should not be a manager imo - football has moved on.

I'll have a word with the lads in D block at the Cambridge match and let them know that people aren't happy with their chants and until someone comes up with better one's,  we should sit and watch the match.
I'm sure it won't be long until all you good folk that aren't happy, pick up the slack and show us where we are going wrong.

But we can still have opinions.   David Clowes bought the club not the right for all of his decisions to pass unchallenged.

Even under Clowes I dont see the evidence we are a forward thinking club - either Pearce has been part of the mess we are in or he's been a puppet for the owners' decisions - either way he should go.

Yes a cat A academy in this division must be almost unprecedented - possibly unique?   It's a huge expense and only makes sense if the manager full buys into the project.

That said there is the caveat that the academy was gutted so perhaps right now the talent isnt there - but set against that the talent only has to break into a L1 side.

Medium term though we absolutely have to have a manager who looks to the academy players.  It's why IF Warne goes I'd at least consider Warburton.  I know he felt bitter Forest sacked him when he was bringing through youth which subsequent managers benefited from.

Thing is unless we play a back 3 he is behind Nelson and Cashin - if we do play a 3 then the evidence is it suits none of those 3.

Good win.  Looking like we are short of making a challenge for promotion but that's understandable as I'd guess we are no longer one of the bigger spenders in that division.

In what way did Warne get us playing more effective football than Rosenior.   We were 7th when Rosenior left and he barely had McGoldrick available.   Add in the cup competitions - and they are competitive fixtures after all - and Rosenior's record was very good albeit over a  short time frame.

...and yet in reality it'll have resulted in far fewer chances / goals against than your memory and imagination tells you it did, for any team.
Naturally though when these mistakes happen they tend to be a bit more high profile, rather easy to pick out and highlight to the max. It's a massive hang-up some people have developed because it looks so much more catastrophic, and easier to ridicule, when it does happen.
It's a trade off against the myriad other defensive mistakes that occur precisely because a team doesn't keep possession and control games, and it's no coincidence that we had more penalties given against us than any other team last season playing it Warne-style.

It's a useful stat.  If your xG exceeds the opponent's on a regular basis then you should be winning more than you lose and if you don't your finishing is poor.   Unlike Curtains I'd say if you have the higher xG then finishing and GKing being equal you should be winning the game - obviously finishing and GKing isn't fixed - Kane can miss sitters and I've scored a few worldies.

I believe (feel free to correct me)  it is only measured for shots on goal though (on or off target) so if you are 6 yards out and square it that wouldn't produce any xG.

No you are right but we can discuss the past.

IF we haven't put in a genuine promotion challenge at the end of this season I would have a look at Warburton.  If we are spunki... I mean spending... millions a year on a cat 1 academy why not appoint a manager with a track record of bringing through young and academy players.   He's also left his coaching role to look for a manager's job.

If not him then maybe look outside the box rather than going for a tried and tested route.   The likes of Cooper, Jones, Potter (I know he was a decent player), Klopp, Mourinho, Wenger all have in UK terms unconventional paths into management - as did Warburton.   Find the next one and get in first.  Just use a bit of imagination rather than the he's done it before route we seem to be going down with players as well as the manager.

I guess it depends what you like from football but I enjoyed the football under Rosenior.   When you think he hardly had McGoldrick available - where would we have finished under Warne without McGoldrick - I honestly don't think top half would have been definite.

Sacking him (ok not appointing him as permanent manager) looked an odd decision at the time - it makes me fear Clowes' views on the game are decades out of date and he's going to keep on appointing similar types.
