It is his club and stadium he can host who he damn well wants, I would not dictate who you could entertain in your house,

    this thread is getting ridiculous

No it's not, he's the caretaker. Just like anybody who buys an house, eventually you sell it on or pass it on.  Selling it on is easier if it has a roof and windows left.

If only that was true. It doesn't wind them up at all. They just think Derby fans are a bunch of thick bumpkins. Conversation a couple of years ago in the south stand following the 'Birmingham's a poo hole' chant (and Derby isn't?!!) a bloke behind me says 'it is a poo hole an all, Wolverhampton, Walsall, all of Birmingham is'. Groan... That's like saying Derby is part of Nottingham. And don't get me started on the goobers who sang 'we hate cockneys' to Watford fans...

Having been to Watford, I would think they'd embrace the opportunity not to be tarred with it for a bit.

  3. Just watched an old top of the pops and Bucks Fizz were on it . Never realised the lyrics to land of make believe are creepy as poo covered up with a catchy chorus. Second verse sounds like Salems Lot.  Could be a death metal cover .

Stars in your eyes, little one
Where do you go to dream
To a place, we all know
    The land of make believe

    Shadows, tapping at your window
Ghostly voices whisper will you come and play
Not for all the tea in China
    Or the corn in Carolina
    Never, never ever
    They're running after you babe

Run for the sun, little one
    You're an outlaw once again
    Time to change, Superman
He'll be with us while he can
In the land of make believe

Something nasty in your garden's waiting
Patiently, till it can have your heart
Try to go but it won't let you
Don't you know it's out to get you running
    Keep on running
    They're running after you babe

Run for the sun, little one
    You're an outlaw once again
    Time to change, Superman
He'll be with us while he can
In the land of make believe

    Your world is turning
    From night to day
Your dream is burning far, far away

    Into the blue
    You and I
To the circus in the sky
    Captain Kids
    On the sand
With the treasure close at hand
In the land of make believe

Don’t forget the appointment of Tony Pulis and spending millions on George Saville!! ???

Would be amusing if the 2.3 million they gave us for Christie and add on for Shottons move just kept us outside point deduction territory

I rate Djokovic's athleticism highly, he always seems as though he could run around forever.

Federer however is my favourite player, the way he glides around the court and plays the game is sublime.

I never really enjoyed Nadal's brute strength approach, but he is obviously a clay court God.

Due to the era they play in and amount of Grand Slams they have won, I would put them as the top 3 players of all time - now imagine if one or two of them hadn't been here.  The other one(s) would have picked up 30-40 Grand Slams rather than the 20 they all just about have.

Insane domination over the past 10 years and whilst it will be good to see a few new faces winning titles in the coming years I can't help but feel we've witnessed a golden age in tennis.

Borg maybe. Won 11. Never played in Australia- probably still classed as an amateur tournament then ?. Retired at 26.

I live in heart of Robin Hood country!

Not Yorkshire, where he really lived, but the location of Hollywood legend, with the world's most underwhelming castle.

Sherwood Forest actually ran as far as Chatsworth Estate at one point and I believe the stories biggest tool was the Nottingham based fella.  Like you say though, probably needed that extra cash for castle improvements.

  7. I was in a pub in Cornwall a couple of years ago and two girls were causing havoc on the table next to us .  I could have had word with there dad when he came to sit down, but lucky for him he got them settled down when he came back with their drinks and was a lovely bloke on holiday from St Helens.  Sure I could have handled it if a word had been needed.

Was this fella- Frikkin massive he was  ?

This was a formal action by Companies House due to non-filing of documents.

Lack of annual confirmation statements and accounts are the two things that twist their knickers.

The outstanding confirmation statements were filed yesterday which seems to have been enough for them to discontinue the strike off proposals.

Can't really understand why these were outstanding - it only takes a few minutes to do online and costs £13 per company. If they couldn't afford £13 till now things must have been bad!

But the fact that it's been discontinued is good news.

PS Expect Mr P on OTIB to now burn more midnight oil to come up with another conspiracy theory. Had some weird idea that Mel was getting these companies struck off to avoid FFP issues.

Well I think it means a third party was trying to get the companies struck off and they have given up trying. So must be good I reckon

It could be that companies house have put in petition themselves to have them struck off as they cant be arsed to chase it.  You can safely assume there was no liability attached to these or creditors would petition to prevent it.  It could have a knock on regarding existing directorships though as you immediately get put under more scrutiny to force compliance. Seeing as one relates to the academy, you would hope it isn't attached to the company still as the name suggests, otherwise the queen might be our new landlord if ought was deemed to be owing.

I never thought i would say that but it is at the point that we need less football not more. Pointless qualifiers against countries the size of a small town, CL qualifiers against the champions of Lalaland, Europa league for the teams finishing above the relegation places. Less is more, stick to 4 years, no need for it

We certainly don't need the 3rd place English team playing the champions of lalaland.  Lalaland have already earned the chance to play Madrid or Munich without it.  Or maybe play Copenhagen, Legia Warsaw or Lokomotiv Moscow, teams who have won there domestic league and perhaps may get as far as a QF, or surprise us and make a final one year in open competition.  Unfortunately, they'll have been knocked in Qualifiers against the 4th place Spanish side.  If they do make it, their then seeded in a group to get rid of them immediately.  Load of old money driven crap.  I await Liverpool, Man city etc to moan about fixture congestion when they have to play 4 more games in it from 2024, like they do about domestic cups every year .  I won't hold my breath.

So on google translate it says EFL want to apply points deduction and Derby county say what we did was legal and fair and we will take you to a legal route if you do that - EFL says we can’t win in a legal route so we will keep you in limbo.

also it’s about time Arsenal got relegated isn’t  it

Its our fault they got promoted in the first place.  A middling Division 2 side till we gave them our vote. Based on finances as usual.

  12. 3 minutes ago, Ellafella said:

That’s correct. But somebody IIRC researched things and worked out that due to delayed trains, causing late ko’s it was the Bolton v Derby game that was first result through on the steam-driven teleprinter…

The EFL have some geezer at the national records office checking this out by candlelight in an old cellar.  They won't be having this.  Expect corruption of antiquated records to appear as charge 5 tomorrow.

If we conceded the first ever league goal in world football (typical of the various other records we hold!) does this mean this was the first ever league game (or were there several that day or previous 0-0 draws)?

And if it was the first ever game, then presumably we are the first club in the world to win a league football match. That sounds pretty impressive.

I think till about 5 years ago they thought first goal/ first win was associated with Villa ?.  In theory I suppose your right, unless there was a load of injury time or something.  Not sure if such a thing existed back then.

Sorry to drone on about this and bore people to death but both of your statements above are factually completely incorrect, from my own personal knowledge of working today with all sorts of businesses and organisations, from the very large to very small.

As you say, though, GE, interesting to try to read between the lines but lets hope the actual facts come out soon.

I worked for HMRC for 14 years so I'm going on that, including 5 years with the official receiver and courts.  Maybe things have changed since 2012.

Do you think should have bought him a couple of years ago? I got hounded on here for suggesting that and Ayala because he wasn't in the cultured style of Cocuball. Yeh, but he can defend!

I think we should have kept Alex Pearce.  Why we shifted him out to sign Efe Ambrose still bemuses me

    Unlikely I’m afraid GS

Even the EFL wouldn't be bothered by a sum as small as that and, anyway, the cause of those potential penalties ( non submission of accounts) is already on the EFL hit list.

We don't know when the club first started withholding Paye, NI or VAT but, even in normal times, moving from non payment to court can be (and can be made to be) a very long process, for all sorts of reasons. And in these times of covid and lockdown, it would be even longer, if at all. HMRC have been told to back off from aggressive debt chasing throughout this period of lockdown. So court action to date would have been very unlikely.

I’m afraid there is every likelihood that its paye, nic and vat not being paid over by the club

it's all conjecture but penalties accruing at HMRC for non submission would still constitute money owed to HMRC and be listed as HMRC debt not paid.   The less aggressive chasing of debt would more likely relate to S/E sole traders and their own liability.  NIC and VAT is always aggressively chased as the repercussions to state pension can be high and if business stops trading it's a real issue.

See what comes out in the wash.

I don't really see it working.

I think there's two things going on, 1 international football feeling displaced by top club football and also FIFA looking at the Euros (and equivalent) and thinking "why don't we just make that money by having more world cups?"

Cue Jurgen Klopp and Guardiola wanting the FA cup removed from the calendar, as the players can't possibly cope with the rigours of sticking 8 past Azerbaijan an additional 3 times a year to qualify, not with a champions league programme on top.

FIFA global head of football development Arsene Wenger proposes holding the World Cup every two years rather than the current four year interval. This would mean a World Cup or European championship every summer and potentially no club football in October whilst international qualifiers are played.

A controversial proposal already seeing opposition. Interesting though and could it work?

No thanks. Total overkill.  The extension of the tournaments has made it more of a switch off anyway.
