Hope Rooney stays but if he doesn't I'd have no hesitation in getting Nigel Clough back in who will get the right players in as this is my worry with Wayne will he know who's good for this division ?he's never played or managed at league 1 level...of course I really hope he stays and succeeds to get us up ....and before i get some belters in response...i am being serious.....I think if Rooney doesn't fancy it Nigel should be given another crack...some of his recruitment was spot on Brayford,Martin,Bryson.Barker,Coutts etc

I am sure Colin Gibson has sensationalised it slightly but shows the measure of Chris Powell as a man that he accepted that nonsense from Morris.
A season that summed up Morris’ entire ownership. Complete and utter incompetence from start to finish

Ah Stoke who just sold their stadium  to Bet 365 for a fortune. Bet 365 have also taken 70 million in losses and cleared them by taking shares in Stoke.  Who owns Bet 365 they must be insane .  It appears to be the Coates who also conveniently own .......Stoke. On top of the 40 million covid losses .  Fair this game innit.

The more I hear from Rooney, the more I'm encouraged that he should be trusted with the responsibility for recruitment and given a budget.
I doubt this will be that popular an opinion but I see similarities between him and Nigel Clough (yes I was a fan). A real passion for the club, a desire to build a football club (as opposed to just a team) and a clear idea of the kind of character he wants in his players. This is what we need, it's a unique opportunity to take all the positives from this season and build in that image.
I think Rooney has good (much better) people around him and more of a positive approach to the game. He's earned the right to build the club he wants in my opinion.
And he'd never take a Director of Football nor does he need one.

I want the opposite. I want us to have Rooney’s passion, ideals and philosophy.  For this to work he needs to bring the players he identifies in, within the business plan limits. Any structure that stifles his player recruitment will hinder him doing his job.
the rebuild is from the ground up. Rooney is a scholar from two clubs with history - both had success under long term managers whose philosophy ran through the clubs veins, through the players and fans. Obviously one had more success than the other, but he knows the importance of stability and a vision of how the club should be.
CK will know this too, as he is apparently successful in his own right in business.

success is about having the right people in place, any structure has to support the Manager, not designed to hamstring him.

we have a chance now to build - build a club, ethos, vision and structure that will breed success.

I think Rooney will stay with as as long as he can build the club in his way, will he leave us in the future? Possibly, but why would he if we are successful?

Completely agree in the long run, but Kirchner said the other day that we literally don’t have a recruitment team right now. It will be on Rooney this summer, so let’s hope he finds some gems like he did last summer.

There's merit in the underlying principle but the title of the thread is probably going to get some folks' back up.
Given what he has to had to put up with this season, Rooney deserves the opportunity to bring his own players into the club in a stable environment. Lets not forget the club has been hollowed out & so there is a massive job on to rebuild the first team & under 23 squad...Rooney's connections and draw will be crucial to entice players here so we can hit the ground running in League One. This is absolutely not the time to put restrictions on him other than a budget.
Going forward, yes it would be wise to have a Director of Football who recruits players on a manager's behalf but that appointment should only be made with Rooney's full buy in as a faciltator, not a restriction. The key point though is hiring a manager (when Rooney goes) who plays a very similar style of football to Rooney...it is the idiotic idea that you can bring in a manager with a totally different playing style that wastes money & necessitates squad rebuilds/wasted players.

The problem being he will always be “near “while he or his family own the stadium. Our association with Morris has been like treading in a pile of dog mess, you can clean it off but the stink lingers for much longer. One day hopefully ( eventually )we can put all this Morris crap behind us.

Have to say I'll be disappointed if we bring any players 'home' other than Jags or Shinnie (who would have both still been with us this year if circumstances had been different)
We need players hungry to prove themselves - I'd much ratther Wazza went out there and found the right sort of players, rather than offer some ex-players a chance to begin their retirement....

Nothing Mel can say will repair his actions. He didn't need to put us into administration this season, but did, otherwise we could've just taken the -9 point deduction rather than 21 and strip assets on the way.
The bloke is rancid, all the way through to his core. Any apology is going to be forced with a touch of 'woe me' so he can write it and shove it up his arse for all I care.

Morris could have flogged the club if he'd wanted to avoid all of this but like anything the price had to be right. And it was Morris who was setting the price.
So instead of getting something back for the club for himself he's now created this purgatory for the fans so in effect he's been the architect of a lose lose scenario.
    Another shrewd business decision.
