Was speaking to Ben at the weekend. He’s been released by Sheffield United. Ipswich, Stoke, Hull and Middlesbrough are interested. I asked about Derby he said very unlikely as he’d prefer a team likely to be fighting for playoffs or newly promoted to prem.

We should win it, and I think we will win it. This is the best England squad of all time imo, particularly in midfield and up front.

I'd just play Watkins. Better all round player. Kane reminds me of Van Nistlerooy. He'll get goals but his all round play is dire and you need to facilitate him with the rest of your selection.
This might be one of the worst takes I’ve read on this forum

More “restricted” I’m not so sure… but less competitive certainly.
This is the first season in a LONG time (probably about 5 years at this point) where we are free of any sort of EFL imposed embargo. That should make a huge difference to the type of business we are able to do - we can now spend fees again, which should allow us to sign younger players from lower down the leagues / abroad, rather than relying on aging well known free agents, as we have been for the first two years of Clowes’ time at the club.
But, that said, even with the restrictions we were still by some margin the biggest club in League One, which meant we were still able to assemble a stronger squad than anyone else. That won’t be the case in the Championship next year, as teams with parachute payments will have significantly greater financial clout than us, making it harder for us to compete.
Clowes is worth what, 250m? The sort of money most of us can only dream of, and yet a pittance in the higher echelons of the footballing world. He is, as he’s effectively already admitted, only capable of funding a mid-table Championship side at a maximum. Which should be the aim this season, as even a newly promoted Derby County should be stronger than some of the smaller clubs in the league. But that’s as far as we can reasonably expect at the moment.
Im fairly certain that, should we solidify ourselves in the Championship, Clowes will see his job as done in terms of saving and stabilising the club, and will look to sell up in the next couple of years.

No, but I’ve heard he’s signing a new contract
-
Like I said before, I was told back in January that he made his intentions clear to the club that he would not sign a new deal under any circumstances. Hence why he was dropped for Vickers. The reason for him wanting out so badly I don’t know

Looks highly likely that Bolton will batter Peterborough on Saturday if they’ve given up then.
Just emphasises the point that promotion for us is FAR from guaranteed. We need that point. Ideally a comfortable 3 points would be nice

Don’t think I’ve ever seen a goalkeeper distribute as poorly as he did yesterday. Luckily it didn’t matter in the end, but it was the main reason we were so under pressure second half.
Don’t know what happened to him, I was stood in line behind him and he seemed to have forgotten how to kick a football! Curtis Nelson was about to lamp him at one point I swear 😂

11Méndez-Laing - 8.5 extra points for a winner, what a player
10Waghorn - 6

Absolutely VITAL win that. Terrific effort put in by the team to grind the result out second half, as painful and nerve wracking as it was to watch. Difficult to play against 13 men with Wildsmith and the Ref playing for Cambridge.
The job is absolutely NOT done though. We still need at least a point next weekend, as the goal difference is tight now and Bolton will beat Peterborough. Let’s keep our feet on the ground - we’ve achieved nothing yet. Remain focused on next weekend and let’s see the job through with a win! COYR!

Then it would be completely devalued
It’s already got barely any value, with the FA Cup already in existence.
For me, scrap the EFL Trophy and replace it with an EFL cup only for non-premier league teams. Give Championship teams the hope of winning something.

The obvious solution to fixture pile up is every club who qualifies for Europe enters an u23 or U21 team in the League Cup.
Or we make the EFL cup just for… wait for it… teams in the EFL!

I don't even think we can mess this up.
Trust me, if anyone can, it’s Derby County.

Don't think Bolton will overturn a +5 GD from here.
So two opportunities to get 3 points - surely we can't mess this up!
Have you watched Derby… ever?

A player who I didn’t know is out of contract is Keanu Baccus. A great defensive midfielder playing for St. Mirren in Scotland. An Aussie with 18 international caps. He’s out of contract in the summer and seen him linked to a few championship teams before. He’s 25 so coming into his prime years, could be a great pick up on a free.
Has good defensive numbers also, I compared him to our own Ebou for comparison easier to understand for rams fans.
St Mirren?! I’d rather we sign Keanu Reeves

You're certainly consistent - although you're quite a way behind @Millenniumram who posted this in the "Is a 4 year contract for Warne too long?" thread after PW had been here a month...
I’m still of the opinion that if we appointed a different manager we’d have been promoted last season.

I enjoyed it. Maybe that's because I've backed him all along so don't feel 'triggered' by it like you clearly are... guilty conscience talking perhaps? I suspect it was in reference to a lot more than just the sending off. I've seen 'fans' write absolute nonsense about him all season, slagging him off whenever the opportunity presents itself. I have zero issue with a player giving it back under those circumstances.
We saw the same with Lawrence previously. Instead of fans getting indignant when it happens, maybe turn the mirror round and have a look at whether some of our own behaviour is causing it to happen eh?
I’m sat in the west stand so it wasn’t aimed at me anyway 👀
Irrespective, scoring two goals against a very poor Leyton Orient side doesn’t make up for an error riddled season where he has cost us more points than he has won us. Perhaps the criticism from some quarters has gotten personal which is of course never acceptable, but that celebration is no way to react to your own fans, most of whom probably aren’t those involved.
It just goes to further reinforce my opinion that he’s a bit of a prize weapon, who clearly doesn’t accept that he’s performed poorly this season. As I recall, he attempted to plead his innocent to Warne after the Northampton game, rather than stand up and accept he’d let the team down - it’s clear Warne didn’t believe him, given we didn’t launch an appeal.
