Might have been true if he had made £200 million out of the Club but basically that may be how much it has cost him to try to get us promoted.

How many owners make loads of money out of clubs now adays, not many, look Mel has had the same problems as all the other chairmen in the championship, but they all seem to be in a better place than us financially, and if Mel took us over to make money, then he is very short sighted, Mel always said he would leave Derby in a better place than when he took us over, I am afraid he got it so so wrong on that score

If we can only sign 3 or 4 then we might as well just give up now.

    Shambles of a club.

Mel Morris took over a club on the brink of the premier League and turned them into a shoe in for relegation to League One. With that little money we can't sign more than 3 free transfers.

I'll never forgive that bloke for what he's done to this football club.

And I hope the fans going on Saturday let him know exactly what they think of him.

I do agree mate, said it on here many times now Mel has truly ducked us over, and being a fan as well, we was in a much better position before Mel came along, we are now in the same mess as the 3 amigos left us in.

Haven't watched the game but I heard we beat the 6th best team in Spain 1 -0.

Just quickly flipped through the thread and it seems we must have lost 5 or 6 nil.

Fans who was at the game, stayed with and supported the team all through the game, nice to see, hope its a thing we will see all the time, getting behind the boys on a match day, never heard any  moaning in the east stand

    Sorry my comment upset you.

Really enjoyed the game, fans in the east stand all got behind the team, nice to be back, players who stood out for me Roos, Bryne, shinnie and Bird, need more players but if we all stick together , fans, and the team, we could have a few good weekends coming up. Once A Ram Always A Ram.

I was glad he got sacked, not going to sit here and rewrite history and how I felt.

Pretty sure we disagree on a lot of things, I don’t automatically jump to you’re being disrespectful though, you’re entitled to your opinions as am I.

The best thing this club did was sack Clough.

The best thing we did, come on Nigel did loads of good things for this club, can not believe u did not see how he developed the squad, i bet Mel wish he had him instead of 90 percent of the managers he got in. In fact the best thing the club could do right now is get in the new owners as ASAP and get us out the poo that Mel has left us in.

You really think had McClaren not come in we would have made the play offs still?

Sorry but I can’t wrap my head around that theory at all.

Yes i do mate, i do think we would have got in the play offs under Mr Clough and there is players in that squad who played for Mr Clough and Mr Mac, and they also think the same, Nigel had alot of respect in that squad mate, believe me.

    Ahh.

Clough may have got us in the play offs had we gave him another 40 years to get there. I’m just glad he was sacked as we’ve been there several times since, great having excitement as a football fan

We have got there that season in my opinion, wish we had the stable club we had back then, but i suppose we have Mel to thank for that, we could be back in division 1 next season, and that will not be down to the manager.

When Mel took over he inherited a good squad and then supplied the funds for Mac to bring in Thorne on a permanent and a few other players …at that stage I felt we couldn’t be in a better place and we were heading in the right direction

A few seasons on and it is a total and utter shambles and although some poor managerial appointments haven’t helped what we as fans have no insight into is how the books are being balanced are the HMRC being paid are staff wages being paid etc etc in other words running a business

The embarrassing shambolic mess of a once great football club is down to Mel and his associates I’m afraid whether anyone thinks he has good intentions or not …his side of it was to maintain the football club we love and he has failed

I’m sick to death of hearing our club being spoke about in such low terms and Mel seemed ok on talksport boasting that he’d had one over on the efl etc but I’m sorry all we as fans asked of Mel was to run the club we adore ….properly !!! He has failed and for me I certainly will never forgive him for the mess we are in ….managers make bad decisions so do players but that’s part of the game …but crossing the tees and dotting the I’s on the business side we trusted Mr Morris and he has let us down …good intentions or not

You hit the nail on the head there, agree with everything u said, post of the year for me.

Not sure what you’re actually disagreeing with, I mean I said most of this in my own words

I disagree when you said there was no excitement under Clough, the season he got sacked the football was much better, like the examples i gave about the away games at Yeovil and Millwall, he built slowly, but that season i still believe Mr Clough would have got us into the play offs, the best 5 managers we have had since i have been going from 1979, are, Mr Cox, Mr Smith, Mr Burley, Mr Clough and Mac mark 1.

It was still largely a grind, a team that only became worth the ticket admission when McClaren arrived.

Take nothing away from Clough, he was shrewd in the transfer market as he had to be, we had owners that only went above a million for a player was it twice? Barker and Sammon?

There was no excitement apart from a cup run that saw us play Man United.

Just felt a bit like Groundhog Day

Disagree the season Mr Clough got sacked we started to play some great stuff the away victory at Yeovil, with the 26 passes before Mr Brysin scored, away to Millwall, when we hit them for 5, some of them players there at the time, believe that we was going somewhere under young Mr Clough and i agree, Clough built the side Steve Mac took to wembley, that team was alot better than we have now, and that's a fact.

Ok fair enough I don’t think any of us know Mels health state at the moment but the pressure on him has been immense IMO .

Now let’s just look at this regarding his financial situation because I’ve asked these questions.

Im not sure the finances are the problem but  it’s the EFL and their intransigence towards DCFC .

Even if Mel paid the HMRC which incidentally Covid indirectly caused and I would imagine other clubs have similar situations then our problems are still not resolved as we have to resubmit our accounts using a straight line amortization and the EFL could still pounce

No I just see the EFL wanting to destroy Derby ,

The EFL should be the angst of Derby fans not Mel .

Come on, Mel has loads to answear  for, why has he not come out and made a statement, he has run our great club into the ground, he loved the attention when things where going better, but now its turned to poo he is nowhere to be seen, how u can defend him is beyond me.

Yes he's tried, yes he had good intentions. But he messed it up big time. Sorry but Mel is to blame and so are those around him. A complete disaster.

He tried lol, he has left us in a terrible state, and for me he was full of it, my opinion, but he could not have done a worse job if he tried, and why so much debt, and to owe the tax man all that money is terrible business management, the sooner he is gone the better.

Resurrected this thread as I’ve had a change of heart. I’ve been a supporter of Mel, I thought he’d just made the mistake of giving supporters what they asked for: ‘sack this manager, sack that manager’, ‘sign this player, sign that player’. All good intentioned, genuine but just slightly misguided.

…But now I’ve got to ask, how on earth has Mel let it get to this stage? We knew we’d have to resubmit accounts - why weren’t they ready? Why are we so late on submitting the latest accounts? Why have we accrued so much debt with HMRC - The alleged £20m is a lot in anyone’s book but this has to be paid! Why have we not set payment terms with HMRC? How were managers allowed to spend so much with no care for the future?

Been saying it for a while now mate, Mel has made a pigs ear out of running DCFC, his decisions has left us in the worse state that anyone could have imagined, just hope someone buys the club ASAP, or who knows what could happen.
