Very much doubt they say that about Tom Barkhuizen either.  Don't think Sibley offers any less out of possession than he does either.  Neither are great but that's not what they're in the side for.

As someone said Tom Lawrence was indulged week after week without contributing much.  Sibley never been afforded anywhere near that much game time.

Ok I am biting 🤣 Tom is a player in the autumn of his career. His abilities are known and in decline. It’s a daft comparison. Tom Lawrence was inconsistent but had enough good games to attract interest from many places and displayed a recognisable skill level for a mature player. Again a poor example. This game time malarkey doesn’t hold water. Again though, I am not anti Sibs. I want him to succeed, he has shown at times, special attributes but he has had more than enough game time for those to develop. He’s behind the curve that you would expect. Mind you, maybe he’s peaked ?  maybe another coach will unlock him - but he has had a fair few ? maybe a different playing system would help ?  I really don’t know but it isn’t game time or opportunity he’s had plenty. Wilson is wild and makes bad final decisions sometimes, but is way more scary to any opponent at the moment.

If you watch Sibley he’s not great off of the ball ….there are two sides with and without the ball he doesn’t do nearly enough without the ball

no stats can confirm this but if you watch his awareness is not great he chips in with the odd goal which is much needed as our midfield don’t score enough …looking at a Leicester and how there manager has got his midfield players scoring more goals is because of good coaching it’s no coincidence players like Dewsbury Hall have started scoring ….but apart from scoring he closes channels and works hard when he hasn’t got the ball …Sibley doesn’t contribute enough without the ball …when he played as a full back I thought it would help his awareness when out of possession but it hasn’t

if he’s not scoring or assisting he contributes very little I’d let him go and see if we can get a box to box CM in who can score and still do a good job out of possession

It’s so frustrating though isn’t it. He is such a committed player with the ball. He’s got something but as you say, maybe it’s coaching that could bring it out. That said he has had various influences over time. When he scored that hat trick I thought we’d unearthed a gem. There have been other flashes of real skill but they are too infrequent given the game time he has had. Every time he’s in the team I am hoping that “todays the day” but it never seems to happen. He still a useful player but in reality I don’t think other teams say “oh no Sibley’s playing, watch out for him”

I would take hogan but you would still want a few million on top to be able to get a couple of midfielders to strengthen us if we did lose bird. If i was bird i would be tempted of a move away because of the style we play on saturday he could of just stayed at home as we had no intensions of going down the middle it was just long over to the corner for NML.

Hey he got the ball in the middle. If you are a great player you make yourself fit the system.

Birdy is great and in thinking terms a decimal point better than man of our journey but why should he move away ? He’s good but not Prem good yet.

Sibley's longest run in a position was at fullback. Nuff said.

I didn’t ask about Sibley though did I ? .. you moan constantly about the opportunities Sibley has been denied, how it’s unfair, how he doesn’t get a run in the team or how he’s played out of position .. blah blah blah. Funny thing is he’s had a lot of minutes on the pitch though hasn’t he ? And yes there have been a few good performances but you don’t have the grace to admit he isn’t setting the world on fire and at the same time pour scorn on another lad who’s barely had a chance. Double standards and bang offside.

Yet apply the same standards to another player who has had little opportunity anywhere and your response is meh, he runs around a lot. Soz Roy, you’re unjust and wrong

👍 The midfield were all poor, well the whole forward line, and Sibs was obviously playing the position asked of him by Warne. He was hardly given the ball anywhere near goal or the final third, how surprising he didn't look dangerous. Well that one cross/shot which was a decent attempt. We'll not miss any of the midfield the way we're set up, they're wasted. Some laud Fornah for his performance but what did he actually do bar run around a bit? Where does he play, what's his position? He looks keen I'll give him that, how long will it last I wonder.

Roy, to use your own argument .. has Fornah had a run in the team ? Has Fornah got a preferred position and has he been picked for it ? Sorry mate but Sibs doesn’t show enough. He is a good player, he has abilities, I am crying out for him to succeed. He’s one of ours ! He has had a couple or three blindingly good performances but with the ball or off it he just doesn’t set the pulse racing with any consistency. He has had plenty of chances. He is a good player, I am more than happy if he’s in the team but he is never going to be a messiah, a premier league player, an awesome game changer. Purple patches, a few great games no doubt. I will support and cheer him all the way but I think you’re a bit fixated on this one.

  6. I don’t know about Sibs and don’t want to recycle old arguments. I keep hoping he’ll turn in to a DCFC Paul Scholes. He has stuff in his locker but for whatever reason it doesn’t come out often enough,  yet whenever Fornah comes on we look more dangerous and incisive in the midfield - things happen.

  7. For me it was a 5 or 6 out of ten performance. Simply because she was, like many refs at this level, inconsistent. She did not penalise players play acting, or a player ignoring an instruction. I don’t know what the yellow count was between the two teams but I doubt it reflects the true ratio of offences committed by each team

Im not having a pop or looking for an argument .. cos have had enough of that for one night

but just asking u genuinely, u say she was poor

but the nml one was as sure as day yellow, the CH one was also the same .. aka overran it and launched recklessly into the challenge and the sibley one was sibley being his usual reckless self.. so no complaints on her there.

    birds obviously was too

the collins / their fella one probably could have avoided yellows but lets be honest anytime players do that at any level its always “here a yellow each, now feck off”

so its the pen, which tom barks has already said in interview “wardy got caught the wrong side and clipped him” and the nml where the defender played the ball and caught him on the follow through which shaun barker and rams tv didnt think it was either

i dont think she did a lot wrong tbh,  our players though … good grief

I didnt think we warranted more than a point but goes without saying gutted to not have walked away with more

    But onwards and upwards

Thing is she was picky, the decisions she did make were pretty much right but that doesn’t excuse that she missed two blatant hand balls, two examples of cheat diving, one nasty late trip that deserved a booking. Played advantage after another offence similar to a booking she gave against us, but took no action. Failed to book the substituted player who willfully ignored a direct instruction from her ( and grinning while he was doing it. ) Card happy, ruined what should have been a game of football. On paper it was an average league 1 performance but as a cogwheel in sporting entertainment it was a pile of rubbish. Detracted from the game and made mistakes to boot. This is not a gender issue. There are good refs and bad refs. This ref was as substandard today as we were.

I'm more angry with the ineffective performance than the penalty to be honest.

Wycombe are dross, a poor team in a poor division and we couldn't find a way to get ourselves into a position that put us out of reach of a sucker punch like that.

We weren’t good but at all, but  Wycombe played ugly muscle bound football that we fell for. Funny thing is they had some strong, athletic, reasonably skilled players who, if managed in a different way could be powerful. Instead the just clod hopped us and cheated a bit. Add in a ref who gave them a level of tolerance that she didn’t afford us and it was always going to be difficult. Surprised Wilson wasn’t braver, there was something about their wingback that nullified him too often, he seemed uncharacteristically cautious. Collins worked himself in to the ground and for him held the ball up well. Curtis deserved his MOTM.

JJ and Fornah made a difference, skill counts

Collins in an off the ball incident here. Did anyone see what happened

Yes, their No 10 faked an injury and dived after Sibs had tackled him cleanly. A deliberate and considered attempt to get Sibs sent off. Blatant cheating. Collins gave the guy a mouthful in support of Sibs and there was a bit of hand bags

I agree she seems to be lenient on them, I genuinely think 3 of our 5 bookings are more than deserved and understand why according the rules of the game (kicking the ball away for Sibley and handbags for Collins) she’s booked them 2.
If we don’t win this it’s our fault, not the refs, we don’t look at it and have been ill disciplined all half. They are there to be beaten, a couple of changes with more composure and we still win this one.

Yes but I still want their no 10 off for cheating !

horrible game so far. We have been suckered in. Need to breath and play our football

This is so funny. Now I know we have our grammar police division, I try very hard not to join them (even though I know they’re right most of the time,  certain “things” do grate 🤪, thing is I am with a mixed group of folk with diverse roots but for the most parts we all have similar brain cells. We also have no pretensions to grandeur or superiority or even claims to elevated knowledge . After all we are just folk who love talking about our club. Who we are, where we come from, our intellectual prowess is entirely secondary.

THIS bloke is an effing JOURNALIST. He is supposed to be an informed, articulate wordsmith. It’s his flipping job ! I mean do you decide to be be a micro surgeon when you’ve got a manual tremor and visual impairment ?

Dazza  can’t  write clear coherent English. How the eff has he got this job ? why on earth do we give him headspace or even a click ? A One legged man at an arse kicking party springs to mind. About as useful as a car park extension at Wycombe!

After I had surgery yesterday I’ll be missing this one (yes I know B4 would have come up with some great solutions). First home league game I’ve missed for as long as I can remember.

I hope I didn’t miss anything of your story and that the surgery went well ?
presumably, as you can still type things aren’t too bad. Get well soon ! I am sure you’ll be 100% with us on the airwaves 🍻🍻🍻

  15. So my “old girl” got a recall from Audi. 9 year old 3.0 Tdi Audi Quattro. Not sexy but a diamond motor that’s now at 95k miles and running like a Swiss watch. So off I go and get a free heater matrix fitted and they washed it. Top guys ! Thing is I am now on the Derby Audi data base so I got a Christmas email inviting me to treat myself to a present.

So they tell me I can by an £85,000 Etron and the total monthly running costs are a paltry £ 154 … sign me up boys !

Then in the small print it says “certain costs associated with this purchase are not included in this estimate such as: deposits, insurance and finance costs”  🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

These guys take spin to another dimension

Sorry to pick this out from the whole post but I think this is the issue and also where we agree.

The league definitely has changed but IMO it's changed in a manner which suits us, even if we are under certain restrictions.

I didn't like you referring to me as an extremist in an early post. I'm anything but.

I just firmly believe that we're past the point where we need to dwell on those restrictions and that they're nowhere near as impactful as sometimes is presented.

I'm massively positive about our club as a whole and I think we've recovered remarkably quickly, for which I will forever be grateful to David Clowes' even if I don't agree with his decision on appointing or faith in Warne. I just worry we'll waste our behind the scenes brilliance on on the pitch averageness and a pack of future planning.

As I've said already I'm simply unwilling to take what I see as a short term view as 'good enough' when I feel we have the pote to really kickstart out revival.

Hey, that’s an opinion. Just as mine is. Perhaps you would have preferred Liam to stay, I also felt that at the time, but DC didn’t and it’s his dosh.  He made what he thought was a sensible strategic decision. As it happens and on balance I think it was a good decision. I am more than aware that it is imperfect. But the dream of a manager who will take us to the top at first go from where we were, is just that: a dream and a theory. It rarely happens in practice, hence my desire for patience and stability. I would like to think I have acknowledged that my support would waver if we weren’t competing, but we are.
No we aren’t running away with it, but can anyone either expect that or lay a foundation for that in just months ?

I am sorry you felt the “extremist” remarks was directed at you. It wasn’t particularly. I simply tend to try and avoid those who have a fixed view on anything. There are a few on this forum who have a view and will never change it simply on principle. The Sibley 10 discussion or the 3 at the back or James Collins. I just don’t like engaging with unmovable objects. It’s a kind of fake moon landings scenario, 5G conspiracy thing and in the case of Collins it is destructive, not really accurate and in any case unhelpful to the team as a whole. I don’t mean to suggest this is you in any way, but say it to try and explain my mindset. I have a view that I hold strongly but it is changeable if the right degree of empirical evidence presents itself. As to Warne, it hasn’t, so for the time being I am onside. That doesn’t make me a guard dog

Nah. Gibson, like the EFL, had us in his cross-hairs and was waiting for his chance. He kicked off about our stadium sale, conveniently forgetting that he had done similar with the Riverside stadium, only it wasn’t the actual stadium, it was a load if debt that the club had run up that he sold to one if his companies.  He was no different than Mel in that respect, but used a much more dodgy solution than a straight stadium sale. And his claim that our “cheating” (you know - that rule we broke that didn’t actually exist) cost Middlesbrough promotion was even more vacuous than the ambulance chaser’s claim. The main reason they weren’t promoted was them losing 7 of their last ten matches.

He claimed his solicitor wasn’t available, deferring the hearings into the next season, and had a hand in the debate as to whether our alleged “debts” were football or non-football related, dumping us on the wring side of the transfer window, the prime reason we lost Phil Jagielka, and that sealed our fate. Then dial into the equation that suing another EFL club was against EFL rules - yes he actually broke a real rule, not a figment of the imagination applied retrospectively to get their own back.

He allegedly has connections in high places, including Downing Street, making him someone who shouldn't be crossed.

But apart from that he is a thoroughly decent chap.

I know you’re right but at least Gibson had real money and tangible assets rather than money lenders and complex financial “instruments” ( I.e lead weights added to the entity that is the club)

but yes, they wanted us and went for us, it was vindictive and in cooperation with the EFL.

Doesn’t alter the fact that Wycombe’s guy is a chancer, wide boy nobody without a single justification for his actions

  18. Really looking forward to this. Missed the cup game so it seems an age since it was match day proper. Then there is the added Wycombe spice.
Want to see more of Kane Wilson. I think he could be just handful of games away from being a full on “danger man” that teams fear. He’s on the cusp. Will he make it ? Will we be passive or on fire ? It’s my biggest “thing” this season. I have been entertained in style one week and hugely disappointed the next. One week we stroke the ball and look dynamic, the next we seem to need 3 touches for everything and lack pace and aggression. The last 5 games have seen a marked improvement. Saturday and a clean win will be a serious statement of intent and confirmation that we can go to the places we want to go to.

Who in the sick room is getting better ? If the gods are with us then PW might have some challenging but enjoyable selection decisions to make in January. If we all get fit and strong I believe we have a powerful squad with myriad options. Tommo, Washy, Wags, Wardy. WWW

I did think it was out of character to be fair, but sometimes even seemingly docile posters seem to turn into Warne's personal guard dogs and attack when they catch scent of criticism.

The weird thing in all this is I don’t see myself as a Warne Guard Dog. To be Frank I don’t like being inaccurately placed in a camp.

I think his early season persistence with 3 at the back was hung on to for far too long. I thought he could have done better in the transfer window (but I also don’t know what wage and fund restrictions he had that might have negated the seeming attraction of DCFC to better L1/exChampionship players) I also know if we weren’t in the top half of the table and on an improving curve then I wouldn’t be that keen. There is also use of midfield, yet despite his weaknesses it’s Bradley who instinctively plays it out to the middle rather than the flanks.

On the other hand, clubs that succeed are rarely ones that sack managers every 12/18 months so I am naturally supportive of a general stance that involves patience and giving people time. It’s not about removing or keeping PW it’s about a plan and a process. How long did it take Sunderland to get out of this league ? If I am a guard dog of anything it’s to protect a process and reasonable, rational action balanced with consequences of those actions.

I also think we often fail to recognise how lower league football has changed. It has had a couple of peaks. The Setanta sport thing where serious money might have arrived - but didn’t,  then pre Covid while lots of gamblers money was in the Championship (and I don’t just mean Morris ) since then many birds have come home to roost, there are a lot of sub PL clubs with allusions or delusions to or of grandeur, status and power that are seriously misguided.

I'd love it if we beat them.

I developed a real loathing for their chairman during the bad times. I loathed him more than I loathed Gibson.

Yep !  You can kind of get Gibson .. felt done, bit spoilt, got in an anger groove very much like any of us when we get on a rant. It’s stupid from the outside with calm reflection, but when your in it you just can’t help yourself.

The Wycombe guy is just a smart talking wide boy shyster who thinks he’s clever and was looking to score for himself to someone else’s disadvantage without a single ounce of fact, morality or sportsmanship. Cowboy opportunist. Did it because he could. Right or wrong doesn’t matter one jot.
