Grimbeard got a reaction from kevinhectoring in El DerbyCo
To continue...
Now here's a little story
To tell it is a must
About an unsung zero
That moves away your trust....
Some people have a fortune
Others earn a mint
But Eric doesn't have much
In fact he's flippin' skint

Grimbeard reacted to G STAR RAM in Stadiums reopening, will you be attending?
Dont really follow your logic, if everyone that wants to be vaccinated has been then why would the people who have not been vaccinated make any difference?
-

..and they should definitely only allow people who have been fully vaccinated anywhere near the stadium, those that chose not to should be banned...in fact, just taken out back and shot.

'Cos a gazillionaire can pay off all debt, thus removing a huge cloud that's hovering overhead, they can also ensure that the club owns P.P. and the training ground. Then they can get the accounts in order and get them filed with the EFL, at the same time sweetly smiling and making concillatory noises thus lifting any embargo. They must surely also be able to spend some money on stuff that doesn't impact on FFP or whatever it's called this week.
All the above will make the manager's job a little more straight forward and make us more attractive to new players and sponsors.
Failing that, we can have a whip-round and a jumble sale, but I think plan 'A' is the better option.

I sometimes think that the EFL won't cease and desist until they've put every member club out of business. Quite whose interests they actually purport to serve has become a total mystery to me ?♂️

Yes it is but its hardly a thriving metropolis in comparison. Leicester population 330k, Derby 250k & having lived in Leicester for a few years, I'd wager still that much of the population there (many of whom can be transient or temporary manual workers) don't follow the team. Compare with the big cities in the country (Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham) which are 1m minimum metropolitan area.
As to Leicester having a wider hinterland - they basically have a load of countryside & market towns to the south & east, not exactly hardcore catchment areas. To the North is Derby & Nottingham & to the west is Birmingham - they're going to struggle to get traction that side. They will undoubtedly have a bigger global footprint than us now but in terms of UK based support, I'd still fancy us to get similar crowds home & away even at our level.
As to your points about it never happening to us or the gap now too big - whilst we have a fluid promotion/relegation system, there will always be opportunities to move up the pyramid. The money gap has always been there but there will only ever be 11 men on a pitch & fresh ideas + complacency/poor management of established clubs will always see change. There are so many examples of clubs dramatically changing status in 5/10 years - we've seen it ourselves between 1966-1972 & 1984-1989. It can happen & it will happen again.

You mean as opposed to Mansour buying City or Abramovic buying Chelsea. Neither were exactly behemoths prior to their current owners taking over, were they?
Now the flip-side; Liverpool were priced at >£2 billion when last under offer and at that price, there's no great potential for ROI, least none that I can see. The only way is down. Would Tepper buy a club as a plaything, o do you suppose he might want to build the club and secure a return on investment?
Let's take emotion out of the equation for a moment; in the good times; we can sell over 30,000 tickets for games. Derby is effectively a one club City; we are a founder member of the football league who have twice topped the pile; we have a large and loyal fan-base and a comparatively rich footballing history.
Furthermore, I'd venture it is the very fact that we are in such a mess that makes us an attractive proposition. I struggle with the fact that so many fans are unable to grasp the notion that you buy stock when it's cheap, not when it's already peaked. Why one shitty season, when we've been challenging for promotion for nigh on 10 years now, is being taken as the only viable metric.
We know there are multiple bidders currently and this without the EFL charges being put to bed. Surely there's a clue there for those who choose to see it? I've very little doubt that a consortium that brings the financial wherewithal of Tepper and the commercial skills and experience of a man like Glick, would be able to steady the ship and put us on back on a road we were already treading until 18 months ago without too much bother.

Grimbeard reacted to Day in This is what we’re up against
Didn’t take long.
But this is more than just Derby. I can point you towards more than a dozen topics that are sticking the boot into the club where you could have a whale of a time.
Can even find a couple where AFC Derby and full on liquidation scenarios for doomsday.
Regardless of where we finished, who’s in charge it’s wrong, we should be able to call that out without attacking our own club yet again.
The prize money on offer in the Premier League is obscene, the numbers are more nauseating when you consider grounds have been empty for over a year in 3 leagues, 3 leagues which unlike the Premier League ticket revenue accounts for a large percentage of the clubs yearly revenue.
But yeah, let’s ignore that to complain about Rooney again because that’s the biggest issue the Football League is facing right now.

Match of the Day when they thought it's purpose was to show games of footy, rather than being a vehicle for Gary and his mates to bore the nation into bed.
