    Nyambe.    Nelson.    Cashin.   Forsyth
    Ward.      Bird.     Fornah.    Barkhuizen
                             Sibley
                           Waghorn
Play Sibley in his best position and reap the rewards.
Bring on NML in the second half when their players are getting tired.
Rest some older ones, two games in three days. 3 points in the bag.

Your views about Wassall and the value of what was invested in the academy seem to have taken a very sharp U-turn since March this year when he was still in post. At that time you said this:
    ExiledinDerby
    Posted March 26
'The academy has to have a budget of £2 million per year to retain Cat 1 status. If you are a lower category the value of your players decreases so if you think the money we received recently is bad try Cat 2 where the a player is worth less than half that of a Cat 1 player who has been at the club from u8 - u16 under EPPP.
It has been Cat 1 since 2014 I think so I assume costs of about £18 million pound.
    Hendrick £8 million
    Hughes £5 million
    Gordon £3 million
Lowe, Whittaker, Bogle, Kellyman, Delap, Man Utd Kids, Buchanan, Ryan, Ebosele, Ebowei…
Its actually made more money than it’s cost….
That return on numbers of players alone including Bird, Sibley, Knight would suggest without it
Current players creating interest and with potential Robinson, Richards, Hawkins, Brown, Wheeldon, Evans, Thompson… to name a few.
For what my opinion is worth (not much I know 😀) I’d say it’s been a good investment.. '
I agree with most of that but is very different to what you are now saying. You also say 'that towards the end they lost a lot of good coaches and the regime needed changing.' This seems to imply that we lost coaches because of Wassall, not through administration or other reasons. I recall Boyer leaving to manage Salford, Short to become assistant-manager at Oxford, Walker to the first team and then going with Rosenior to Hull and Pearcey leaving when Warne brought in Waddington. They didn't leave because of Wassall. So can you tell us who did?

I accept your point about nepotism which is an innate problem with most parents. The same was said about Alex Ferguson bringing Darren into his United team and winning a Premier League winners medal in 1992-3. The same was said about Brian Clough chucking Nigel in at 18 at Forest where he won 14 England caps and a couple of League Cups. People made the point that neither did as well at other clubs, ignoring the fact that their initial success might have been down to the fact they were playing under the two greatest ever British managers. Darren didn't have that defence. He was just another academy parent who perhaps had an over-inflated view of his son's ability as most parents tend to have about their offspring in all walks of life. It's not a crime, it's perfectly natural and can't be helped.
I still think that Wassall did an excellent job for Derby.

Oh my goodness, what a response!
Hello everyone, I’m Claire, Daniel’s (B4) sister. I am overwhelmed by your kind words, support, and the memories you have shared.  Thank you so much for the kindness and love you have all shown to Daniel over the years. My parents are working their way through all of the posts and will offer their own thanks in due course.
I wish I knew about the scraves, flanges and ballions before now. I wouldn’t have let Daniel live that down at home. This made my husband and I laugh this morning.
I will be wearing Daniel’s shirt and keeping his seat warm at the Bristol match. Really looking forward to hearing a big cheer and round of applause in the 38th minute, a goal at the time would be perfect!  Do please continue to share the picture with details of the applause. Let’s raise the roof for Daniel!!!
    Thank you all again ❤️

I always enjoyed reading B4's posts and like many have said had such a passion for our great club and what a great guy he was, he will now be sitting at the top table alongside the other great DCFC supporting fans/legends that have gone and will be helping the club from the other side.
Thinking of his family at this sad time.

A stranger we had yet to meet.
    Our paths had never crossed.
And yet, it seems, we knew him well,
A dear friend we have lost.
A heart of gold, a Kindly soul,
    A friendly word to each.
A clumsy gaff may oft appear,
    But ne’er offence be reached.
A call to arms, a plea for fight,
    A positive embrace.
    Defiant stance, a pumping fist,
    A smile on his face.
Hatred of pink, and all things red,
More strangers for him to meet.
“A sea of black and white” he’d call,
“Let’s all stand at our seat”!
    A disregard for marriage,
    for relationships of two,
    “Never, ever” he would wail,
    “That would never do”!
Yet he loved all, and we loved him.
    His quirks always forgiven,
    His stubbornness frustrated,
But missed, now he’s in Heaven.
The truest Ram, amongst us all,
    Now gone for evermore.
    For Daniel, for DCFC

I have been viewing the DCFC rams forum for around 10 years. I have never needed to open a account, as I only care about checking what my fellow Rams family have to say, until now………
B4 - I have finally registered to this fine forum to pay tribute to you. I have met you a few times at away matches and have always revelled in the hundreds of posts that you wrote. You were an absolute inspiration and beacon of positivity, thank you for always improving my mood. I hope you find the best fish and chip shop up there pal.
I also hope you can sprinkle some magic for the remainder of the season to see us to promotion, nobody deserves this more than you my friend. 🐏

First and foremost, my thoughts are with Daniel's friends and family, I cannot imagine what they are going through right now.
I heard the news last night and it came as a huge shock, B4 as we knew him so fondly by will be a huge loss to the forum.
He was Mr Positivity, Derby County's biggest cheerleader, even during the bad times his positivity would shine through.
I know his Dad was at the game today with a scarf on his seat, whilst we haven't closed the gap on Portsmouth in Daniel's final rallying call on this forum, I'm sure he will be over the moon with the 3 goals and 3 points today.
DCFC Fans will be honouring Daniel in time to ensure he remains in our memories, we will also be contacting the club in due course to see what can be done during a game.
Suggestions are welcomed as we all come to terms with the loss.
    Rest in peace Daniel. ❤️🐏

I have some very sad news this evening.  Daniel (B4) died earlier this week. He was just 38.
As you know, he has been battling numerous health conditions for a long time, but always remained cheerful  and was the most loyal supporter of his beloved Rams, home and away.
He was at the match at Crewe and gave his full support as always.
Daniel leaves behind a grieving dad, mum and sister. Our thoughts go out to them and we only hope they get a little comfort from knowing how well loved Daniel is by all who know him.
Here are a couple of photos that his dad agreed could be shared. I'm sure many of you have others, as Daniel loved a selfie at the game.
David is hoping to arrange a more fitting tribute in time, but for now please raise a glass in his memory and a good Derby win today. I am sure that's what Daniel would have been doing tonight.

Injuries have caused a fair bit of disruption, to be fair. We bought wingbacks to play with a back 5, then they all got injured. We blend a bit of new youth into the team in Thompson and Rooney, they both get injured. We bring in a dynamic midfielder and striker on loan to offer different qualities, they both get injured.
So currently we've reverted to a back 4, and also reverted away from the pressing/crossing game Warne seems to favour due to not having an effective striker for that gameplan. When you consider all the above, it's kind of understandable we haven't got a settled XI that have clicked yet?

Thanks for clarifying the detail……doesn’t depart from the fact that you can have a brand of football that is good - and still lose games - and end up failing in your objective to win games and secure promotion - even if the matches were entertaining - which was the post I was replying to.

Just having a look at your analysis further, there seems some similarities between then and now:
    1. Recruitment: 14/15 was the season before MM throws money at it - suggests SMac had his hands tied when it came to recruiting a well balanced squad. Roll on 23/24… I think we know this is true for PW.
    2. 3x Injuries in one position in the team:  13/14 …. (CDM - Eustace, Mascarell, Thorne). ……. See 23/24 RB/RWB issues…Ward / Rooney /Wilson all injured for a large proportion of our first 11 games.
    3. Attacking options: OK so not at Centre Forward like the Martin and Bent issue specifically …….but Bird (if you play him in the more advanced role), Embleton, Sibley, Barkhuizen, John Jules (brought in to play behind the 9) all injured/unavailable consistently.
So an inability to put out a consistently balanced team for 11 (12) games.
Was SMac just damn unlucky because he had his hands tied on recruitment and was unlucky with injuries?  Or should he have signed players regardless of budget constraints, had the foresight to recruit 4 players for every position, trained the players differently so they didnt get injured and maybe have changed his style of play to suit the players at his disposal? Surely we had enough in our squad in the last 3 games of the season to get the extra point we needed to secure play offs given we were playing away at Huddersfield (16th), Millwall (Relegated) and at home Reading (bottom and relegated)?
I only make these points as it seems they are overlooked by some posters right now who don’t like the brand of football played by Warne and believe we have a right to be in the Top 2.
We’re 11 games in - and 35 to go and we’re about to hit our stride. My own view is that with the current coaching team we will be still in the promotion hunt after 45 games…..just like 14/15… here’s hoping that’s where the 14/15 comparator ends.
And yes it’s just my opinion…🐏

I’m not sure I said we would …..but just to pedantic (hope you appreciate this Jimbo 😉) ….. you could certainly go winless in 6.

Go back to March 2014/15 season under Stevie Mac - arguably one of the best 18 months of entertainment we’ve had at Derby (since TBE at least) but no wins in 6. And only 2 out of 12 at the most important stage of the season. Perhaps that team lacked character and steel 🤷🏻‍♂️

We were entertained but ultimately it was not good enough to deliver the main objective - promotion!!

We’re unbeaten in 6 - which has to be good for confidence - and yes I too would have also liked to have seen more goals and more wins, However, there are mitigating circumstances, we are only just able to select from a full squad and even then are nursing some (Bird, Wilson, Barks) back to full fitness. One win puts us in the play off spots and on course for the main objective for the season - promotion.

The way I see it is PW wants to play 5 at the back and has used pre season to put it into practice but does not have a left wing back and the three centre backs are not gelling as hoped so until he gets a proper lwb it will not work.
Therefore for now needs to play four at the back, a 442 with either Wilson or Rooney at right back the other right wing with Ward injured with Elder left back and NML on the wing. Cashin with either Nelson or Fozzy at centre back. Could do with a couple of Craig Brysons of old in midfield and Washington alongside either Collins or Waghorn up front. Centre of midfield is a concern, not mobile enough over a long period and we need two out and out strikers to give us a better chance of scoring with all the crosses coming in. I wish it was that simple to sort out. Good luck to the coaching staff to get it right for Saturday.
