I keep seeing the phrase "didn't pull up any trees".
How many trees would people like our players to pull up when they're regularly given a role or roles in systems that directly contravene any conditions necessary for them to pull up said trees, where sometimes there aren't any trees for miles around?
That's before considering that said players have spent the past few years re-tooled as firefighters. It will take more than 1 season to get their arboricultural equipment back and in full working order.

I think this is my biggest issue with Collins. He tries so hard to have an impact that he often ends up miles out of position. He needs to have a bit more patience and stay up top where he can do the most damage.
Only have to look at his goal against Portsmouth at the end of the season to see he has the instinct and is capable.

Warne did well with Smith and Ladapo up front, Rotherham just lacked the muscle to keep them at the club.
Ladapo had a decent record and was bought in for a moderate fee (about £500k), and Smith was picked up from Bury where his stays weren't great.
I think PW is taking his time to get it right and land a player (or 2) he can use as first choice for the next 3 years. I'd guess he wants something or someone specific and we are waiting for Bielik/Knight money to hit the bank so he can grab that, rather than settling for a freebie who may be square peg/round hole or just not as good.
I have no doubt if he wanted the frees mentioned, apart from someone who has specific geographical issues or has significantly better offers, eg a Blackburn rather than a Gillingham, then we'd have them. We are favourites for promotion, have the biggest abd best facilities in the division and I'd imagine the ability to match or better any offer on the table.

As much as it hurts me as a bit of a romantic with number assignments, a 1-11 is getting as rare as rocking horse excrement.
Especially when some football hipsters keep talking about the no.6 role and it *not* being the right-sided CB.

I certainly don't begrudge him for taking the opportunity. With Notts just back in the league he has the chance to  help them establish themselves again.
He leaves after carrying the.team for parts of last season, and will always have cult status here, but as many have said players of his age are always a risk. Potential sudden drops in basic ability/fitness and susceptibility to injuries are always likely.
I think he could have made a decent impact again this year, whether that was as an integral part of the side or as a game changing sub, but there are others out there and it's now on the recruitment department to do what they are paid for as PW starts to shape his side.

He has been played on the wing. He is quick, strong and a good height. Good age too. He has contributed to a pretty poor side, and importantly is from Derby with a good attitude and mentality. Would be a great addition in my opinion (biased). His brother is in team GB for hurdles and his dad was a professional rugby player, physically is a very good fit for a Paul Warne side. Intelligent guy.

    Hi lads, Spurs fan here!

I watch quite a lot of our u21 games so hopefully I can give a fair assessment of where he's at and what he might bring you.
He's a very versatile player, he mainly plays CM or DM but has filled in at LB (our u21s dont have a natural LB) a lot and played at LM. Conte even started him as a false 9 in place of Kane in our post-worldcup friendlies but before you get your hopes up he's not a natural striker! IMO like a lot of creative players his best role is possibly AM in a free role but he's not played there much recently because our u21 team has quite a lot of forwards to accommodate. He was loaned out to Pompey a couple of seasons ago and I believe the club have had loan offers for him pretty much every window since but they've been blocked by the club for various reason which has frustratingly stalled his development a bit. He's got great range of passing and not sure how many of them are on youtube but he's scored some unbelievable direct freekicks over the years in the youth teams. The youth coaches have said he's one of the smartest players they've coached and according to the Pompey manager when he was there he's very easy to coach, "You only have to tell him an instruction once. He's like a sponge and you'll tell him something once and then he'll be doing it. He's so easy to coach, a coach's dream."

Hopefully it all goes ahead and he does well for you and maybe he can go on loan again with you next season in the championship ?

Surprised when I saw this earlier.
David has probably weighed it up and doesn't feel Liam is capable of taking us up without play off drama at the very least. Can't say as I disagree - I like Liam, he speaks well, but there has been a disconnect this season - we should be settling and finding form but it's gone backwards - too many games lately we have played for 45 minutes at best and not been at the races the other half. Our defending (despite a just about acceptable record overall) and scoring has been woeful due to the tactics/system used and that stops with him as he has said himself.
Played 9, won 4, drawn 2, lost 3 is a right mixed bag of results, and despite being a championship team on paper we don't seem to be showing that in this division at present. You could definitely see someone with a bit more knowledge coming in, shaping them and getting a more convincing defensive line up, more effective supply chain, and Collins as he should be netting regularly.
I think Liam has probably just been offered his old job back for now, he is under contract for that so that's why we're not saying he's gone. I imagine he is weighing up his options as he seems pretty consciencious. Rare that anyone ever makes that back step though (Wassall obviously excepted) so I can't see him swallowing his pride and staying.
Might get a job opening soon, but more likely I can see him joining a backroom team such as Brighton again. Hudderfield and Cardiff seem a bit of a stretch given his experience.
As for Warne it's never boring is it. They've been a different division every year since he joined in 2016. Does seem to know how to get promoted, and might like the opportunity to work with a bit more if he thinks he can get us up, rather than losing his best players on Bosmans each year, he could build on them.
He does seem to know how to pick up strikers and bargains which he has going for him. His squad seems like a decent age and is overachieving for saying I've only heard of a handful of players. Not much of a record with youngsters but maybe that's Rotherham's academy not producing.
From his own mouth his defenders don't take risks, he doesn't play out from goal kicks, they just try to put crosses in and get the ball to a target man up front. They are physical and look to captalise on set pieces as often as possible. Maybe that's what we need. I do think the current personnel fits that ethos.

Warne is on a rolling contract so compensation won't be crazy. Also Liam isn't a 4 year contract being torn up so we don't have to find that.
In terms of timing a 10 day gap to our next game is a good place to be making a change.

Bizarre that folks are crying that this is just like the hire fire mel days ,, rosenior was never appointed manager
bizarre that folks are crying why let him bring in players then get rid ,,,,,,, we had next no players and nobody else to bring them in rather than rosenior
I am not in the least surprised he has not got the job permanently, to me we have some very decent players come in who started well and are going backwards ,the last three games have been a shambles , the win on Saturday papers over the cracks and to me it was down to the players determination and quality at this level that pulled us out of the fire , Liam said afterwards that he told the players at halftime to stay patient and keep doing what they were doing ( words to that affect),
we are neither one thing or the other under Liam this season , we Pratt about at the back to allow the opposition to get into shape behind the ball then go direct long ball or long diagonal
if your going direct then do it quick and catch the opposition out ??‍♂️

I hear a lot of talk about anti football but to me knocking the ball around your own half then turning back to your own half constantly, keeping the ball at all cost s at the expense of not scoring is the most anti football you can be
