"If you look back at the interview I did on Thursday, you could see that I was a bit flat. We have had a lot to deal with what with losing so many players and bringing so many young players in.
I felt it was an opportunity for some of the lads who haven’t played to come in and I have a lot of confidence in them.
“It wasn’t the best performance today; we had to change the shape and tried to mix it up and we didn’t play as much football as we have done this season, but it was a well-earned three points.”
It's such a tough gig! He really must wonder when we'll catch a break. Lady Luck was hanging about outside the ground, time she stepped on in! #COYR

Yes other clubs such as Southampton have proven it to work. Problem is it takes time. It’s only now it’s starting to look good but could all be for nothing given the situation the club is in. If we kept everyone we could have a team in 5 years time 50-60% academy graduates competing towards the top of the championship. If not then we sell on for big fees and re-invest in the team allowing us to remain competitive. The talent is there. But it needs to be supplemented by intelligent buying. If Bird Knight had been around when Hendrick and Hughes were here we wouldn’t have wasted £20m on Butterfield and Johnson in transfer fees and wages. And I think we would’ve got promoted. The talent is coming through now but the rest of the team is weak due to the predicament Mel has put us in and we could lose them all for nothing. That doesn’t mean the strategy is wrong.

I doubt it when you consider that if we were under new ownership we’d be somewhat stabilised and clubs would know we weren’t going to accept a pittance for our players, if not then they’ll be thinking they can try their luck with pathetic offers and they’ll believe we’ll have no choice but to accept it. That’s of no benefit surely? If we’re going to sell players we want the offers to be realistic, it devalues the club even more if not.

We remember how your fans supported us through our darkest hours.
We now have our club back and we are on our way back, but your fans were brilliant at Bloomfield Road singing all the Oyston out songs with us. We had a mini riot during that game, a night match and later that season, we started boycotting games home and away.
Word is, our fans are 100% behind you during this hopefully short term blip in your great clubs situation.
    Good luck from the Seasiders!

Next year is going to be very tough. We will not be in a healthy situation when we go down. It’s going to be very hard to bounce back. First things first is to ensure we’re in League 1.

derbydaz22 reacted to LeedsRam1999 in Richard Keogh
I feel Keogh is a modern club legend (at least in my lifetime - I was only born 1999 so forgive me). However, the way he has sued the club when we are in dire financial straights, has made me question him. Obviously he feels entitled to the wage he lost, for himself and family. However, I feel there is a better way to go about bankrupting a club that was in the most part, good to him. He has punished fans for his indiscretions. Therefore, I feel we people should be well within their rights to boo him. I won’t be part of it, but I can see both sides of this coin.

All I care about is Derby players giving their all so I won’t be paying too close attention to this possible distractive storyline tomorrow.

We ought to sue Boro for selling us Mikel Beck in the late 1990’s; purportedly a striker, he demonstrated that he couldn’t hit a barn door from two yards.
Whilst on the subject, I would also sue Charlton Athletic for selling us Derek Hales in 1976 - somebody who scored for fun whilst at Charlton but whilst here made the art of scoring as difficult as plaiting fog.

Well said re Festy. The lad is doing really well in his first season at this level. As a supporter he's one name I like to see on the team sheet as he gets you off your seat as an exciting talent prepared to do what no-one else in the team is - really take his man on and attack, time after time.
So what if it doesn't work sometimes? I'd much rather he tried this and failed than jog 25 yards up the pitch then pass it 10 yards backwards when faced with an opponent. He'll learn the game at this level. And if keeps that attacking intent then he's got a great career ahead of him.

Whatever this season brings I can’t help but feel all warm and gooey inside every time we kick off.

Bogle and Lowe have long gone but they were a good start. Now, when I see the long long list of youngsters who over the last 12/18 months got a baptism of fire and met it with commitment and skill; I am filled with hope and delight.
so many, even in this short time, have shown they aren’t lightweight kids thrown in to a desperate mincer. They have skill, fortitude and ability. They  have stepped up with ease.
Watson, Williams, Thompson, Knight, Bird, Ebesole, Buchanan, Cashin, Sibley, Stretton. Just look at that list !
Anyone of them can and will wear our shirt and give a good account of themselves. They have reached the mark at a young age. They are at the beginning. At this stage of their development they will only get better .. it’s a heck of a list from one club .. to produce virtually a full team from your own toy box in such a short stretch of time is magical. Manchester United make much of their youth development with 100 x our resources. Rooney, Daz Waz and even Mel must get a salute for being part of this. Then add in Curtis, Fozzy, Colin and Jags .. what great examples they are setting. .. These kids will win something, this year, next year or 5 years down the line.

It may sound strange but I am enjoying this battle against the odds because I am seeing character, courage, growing skills, enthusiasm, pride and sport prowess of the highest order. It is hugely rewarding and just joyful to see it.

This is his 9th season with us. He's lost 2 of those seasons through serious injuries and yet has fought back to be a generally reliable squad member. If anyone has given this club value over the years, he has.
Our support has been outstanding this season, but some of our fans, sadly, are still brainless twits.

?how can you not count it as a mistake today? You are aware he effectively just passed the ball straight to them 12 yards out?
v Millwall dived over the ball for their goal
v Blackburn parried it straight to their player whilst diving behind the goal line for the first goal
v Blackburn beaten at his near post for their second
v Sheff Utd got sent off costing us the game
v Birmingham again beaten at his near post for their second
These are just from his last 8 games. There are lots more errors throughout and further back, just that not all of them lead to goals.

I disagree with this in a way.
I think we've needed a Director of Football these last 6 years, someone who will remain in post no matter what, and can plan recruitment accordingly, in line with the vision the owner has set out.
Mel's 'Derby Way' was an admirable ambition, yet he never put in place the structure to achieve it, I suspect his ego overtook him and he thought he could fulfill the role himself.
The position we've been in, and the position we're going to find ourselves in when the dust settles, are naturally going to lead to a high level of manager churn.
Hire a manager and he does well, they'll be plucked away by the bigger boys, hire one who turns out to be a bad fit and we will sack them.
In Mel's time, we've been through Mac, Clement, Wassall, Pearson, Powell , Mac again, Rowett, Lampard, Cocu and Rooney.
All managers who set up and manage differently to their predecessor, and want different types of players in their squad.
All we needed in that time was consistency of management styles, so the next man could hit the ground running from day one, and not have to tear apart and rebuild the squad.
That's where a director of football may have a difference.
