Mel Morris fan club

If there are any members left can one of them put up some positives about the current situation to give some balance?

Despite the stresses, strains, and reputed ill-health, as of Sunday, Mel Morris was at least alive (if not well?), and getting himself out of the house.

A thumbs up from me... and long may that continue.

I certainly bear him no ill will, I just fail to understand why he has gone down this route, if he is as big a fan as he says he is?

I don't think his Radio Derby interview has done him any favours at all, it was about as successful as Prince Andrew's TV interview with Emily Maitliss (except the night at Pizza Express), and look where that got him - sent to Coventry!

I think the opinions will only get worse as more comes out. However, if he can do so (and we really should remember the Times rich list figures are often wildly inaccurate) how much Mel helps now to get us through this with debt/stadium/paying bills for couple more months will define how Derby fans view him. It doesnt matter how he blames covid/efl/other chairman this is up to him. I still find it hard to believe that a Derby fan would want to be the one to put us out of business as a club and that is what I am clinging to as it looks truly bleak.

Personally think Mel is correct on his covid argumement and the tv rights .This has obviously upset a few big fish in the efl , which has also meant he wasnt liked and watched closely he didnt want to tow the line and they dont want to be told what to do . His biggest plus is why no accountant on the 2nd independant panel , neither radio Derby or any newspapers are reporting this as odd behaviour from the efl . As it does look very much like a stitch up . His downfall is the stadium sale although tech legal it was legally cheating and losing far to much money on players and managers the club could afford . So he has gambled at the clubs livelihoods expense .A gamble that can lead to liquidation whichever way you look at it that puts mel on a par with Maxwell . Sorry to say i liked Mel but on quite a few occasions he has gambled to much or thought he was to clever . You need a safer pair of hands on the tiller even if that makes for mundane transfer windows and football .

I'm another one that loved the fact a rich fan took over and has tried to bring success, the academy on the face of it was the right thing to invest in, raising the profile of the club with the gamble on Lamps was something I applauded, giving a young English ex player a chance (I'd still love Jody Morris to be involved again down the line) and it nearly worked, it wasn't Mel that screwed up the team selection for the final!

But

Talking of his health, take a moment for the health of some of the 25k+ fans, not everyone is resilient and can shrug their shoulders at the situation,  some (maybe only a few hundred) rely on the Rams for socialising, camaraderie and a purpose, you can already see some people struggling with the uncertainty,  @B4ev6isis a perfect example of people that live and breath the club, take a moment and think about their wellbeing,  because a certain MM hasn't. Let alone those that have been in furlough from the club for best part of 17 months and are likely to now be out of work!

Even if he has a grand plan (I'm still clutching at straws) to somehow allow DCFC to carry on by using the administration route, the way he has run the club in the last 2 years is appalling, and if he ends up sitting in his Palace with PP and the Academy buildings still in his name, and no club.... I don't know how he can sleep at night.

I know he got plenty of stick for blaming Covid for our current plight but, if he can convince the EFL, there is a chance (I believe) that the club can appeal against any points deduction. I’m not holding my breath but, you never know.

I'm sure that the Chief Executives of many clubs will be tut-tutting over Mel's claim whilst busily "kitchen-sinking" their own Covid losses for their affected accounts.

I find it particularly ironic that one "anonymous EFL executive" described Derby as "the worst run club I've seen in years" shortly after Peter Ridsdale was elected to the EFL board.

Football is worse than politics when it comes to pious hypocrisy.

Absolutely no chance of that happening. The EFL know better than most how much of a shambles we are, and were before COVID. Any appeal will cost money and simply get laughed out.

I hope he can make it to PP for the Reading game, maybe we could add his name to the list of supporters that our great forum members are generously funding for the game, hate him miss out now he doesn't have a seat and is brassic

I may be one of the only people who listened to the radio Derby interview and thought, there's still a chance Mel knows what he is doing. It's a long hard road, but he knows it will end up 'ok'.

That isn't positive, more deluded optimism, but that is all I have.

I assumed Mel / Pearce knew what they were doing when they signed off on big purchases and agreed to big wages. But if he was losing £1 million a month In 2017, then why? And why was it not fixed.  I didn’t believe this but I guess it was correct ...and the finances have been well hidden for a while. There have been no checks and balances and Pearce has been a yes man. Why was the club consistently living well beyond its means... he’s gambled with the future of the club. Very optimistic if he or anyone assumes it will be ok, maybe a few years down the line but he’s fed Derby to the sharks right now.
Derby County could fold and it will be largely down to Morris and his ineptitude running a club. I never thought or believed it was so bad financially until recently but it looks like it’s all true.

I'm afraid all that does is to kick the problem down the road for a while.

Derby County is broken, and Mel is the person solely responsible for breaking it.
