Captained their U21s a few times. Interestingly, he's mostly been used on the left of a back 3 this season

Sadly this will be my last match today. My first was in 1956 as a 13year old, My dad used to take me before that but he stopped going when we went down to the third division north. My mate and I would catch the 12 oclock bus from Melbourne and be the first in the ground. We stood in the Normanton end pigeon loft, I think it was 3 shilling. To this day I remember that team. We were champions in 1957 and I ran onto the pitch after the last match against Southport, Ray Straw scored 37 goals that season, The next ten years saw me start work, get married and have two children, I had moved to Derby, and after my family, the Rams were the most important thing in my life I never missed a home game in those ten years even though we were only an average second division side. And then in 1966 after England won the world cup my mate and I decided to have a season ticket, Little did we know what would happen that season, I was at work one day and a Rams supporting work mate told me we had signed a player from Bradford Park Avenue, his name was Kevin Hector I'd never heard of him but he was without doubt the most wonderful footballer to grace the Baseball Ground I had ever seen, and because of this we wanted to see more players like him which led to Tim Ward getting the sack and BC becoming Manager, what followed was ten years of unbelievable success and enjoyment. And then things started to go wrong off and on the pitch and I stopped being a season ticket holder during Peter Taylors time as manager, i still loved The Rams of course and when I turned 65 and retired my old mate from Melbourne and I bought season tickets again. But sadly covid left my best friend of 80 years with a dementia problem and he know no longer knows me. For the last two seasons I have been going alone to the match but its just not the same for me. Therefore I am calling it a day, as I write this I am welling up as I will do this afternoon. Thank you Derby County for every thing I will love you till I die.

The job Warne has done, since Stevenage away, has been exemplary.
You cannot play one touch 50 pass moves with league 1 players. Not feasible. If we blow it, and have to face up to another season down here, Warne is definitely the man to rebuild us and go again.
If we go up, he will have earnt the right to build a Championship squad and have a go at keeping us up, as per his original brief.
I know he's marmite, with his off-beat personality profile, but he's clearly an honest and genuine man and it's hard to see a nice guy cop for abuse.

I think this is spot on.
If you think he's competent as a manager, this approach works because I suspect the players think they can talk to him about anything and everything and that only helps the team. So I do think for a certain type of player, they will run through brick walls for him.

But for some people/players I suspect it comes across as being too relaxed (football classically being more important than life or death) and then there's no way he can demonstrate competence and earn respect.

Personally, I think he'd be fantastic in the pub, and second in the league ticks the competence box for me for now

Absolutely fantastic to gain 2 points on Bolton today. They play again on Tuesday, away at Cambridge. Obviously you'd expect them to win but, should they drop points we're properly second (based on points per game) for the first time this season. Currently it's:
Portsmouth 2.12 ppg Bolton 2.03 ppg DERBY 2.00 ppg Barnsley 1.88 ppg It's a four-horse race. Win at Barnsley on Saturday and it's a three-horse race. Today's other results for the top 4.
    Portsmouth 4 Reading 1 Bolton 3 Charlton 3 Fleetwood 1 Barnsley 2

Peterborough picking just the wrong time for a slump.
Couple of weeks ago, I had them as a very good Autos possibility, more so than us.
And now they're 10 points behind

and there's really only 2 teams keeping it together at the moment - us & Pompey
    Barnsley game will be crucial

This may sound churlish but I think he's learning, Lets Exeter have the ball and we score 3(tho undeserved 😁)then picks a team to match their strong arm football.
A pity that our striker is missing for X amount of games...but we have a couple of strikers to come back in.
I don't mind winning ugly altho I don't like waiting for fulltime 😬

I am a retired HGV driver, so i have no aspirations to work in the media, thank you very much. I just like to give my opinion, as does everybody else on this forum. It is what forums are for. All I want to do with this "verbosity" is express my frustration taht we are consistently underperforming while it being obvious that we can do so much better, and have proved it several times, only to go backwards once more.
And no, I don't think he sets the team up to play poorly, he sets the team up the way that he wants it to play. Which is what he should be doing. But ..... cast your mind back to last season, when he wanted to play a wing-back system , but didn't have the players to do it. Unfortunately, for whatever reason we didn't manage to recruit the players to enable his particular system. But that didn't stop him trying to impose it on the players he had available.
My comments are based on the fact that injuries forced him to change our formation, after which we went on a run of good results. But as injured players returned, he reverted to his preferred system, and the results stopped. We have had the same thing this system, with the team struggling to get results once more. And once again, there was the insistence on the preferred system, with even less fruitfulness. Until the disasters against Crewe and Stevenage in particular, with the consequence that the fans started to turn on the team, and on the manager - noticeably it was the away fans, whose support is tremendous, that made the most noise. It seemed as though Warne threw his hands in the air and let the team play to its strengths, and off we went on this terrific run, which is still in progress. But the worrying signs were there on Saturday, and instead of involving the midfield in addition to using the channels, we went back to bypassing them. You might notice comments about Max Bird, Connor Hourihane and Louie Sibley being ineffective. Well they would be when the ball was being whacked out to the wings at every opportunity. It might have been a one off, but lo and behold last night it was clear in the first half especially that the honeymoon was over, and we were back to Warne's preferred wings and crosses methodology. And we were back to creating very little threat at all, apart from the few flashes of "proper" football which did give us attempt at goal. And it was only after the substitutions that we started to dominate what was actually a very well organised, hard working opposition team, but which actually threatened very little. Yes, credit to him for making the changes, and it might well have been that he planned it that way, knowing that Wilson and Sibley would unlock the Lincoln defence, but given the pattern we have already seen all too often, I am not so sure.
Our defensive stats have come from the partnership between Cashin and Nelson, and credit to Warne for settling those two together. We also have a great goals scored figure, but most of that has come since we started to play football. And yes, I will have a go about the incessant crossing, because it has produced so little in return. We were crossing the ball poorly, either to high or too deep, to a lone striker who was battling defenders who are inevitably taller than him, or who was so busy doing all is "off the ball" work that he is late arriving. His "in the box" work has improved, curiously since we changed our style, with our crosses now being to feet as well as in the air.
So all this is me showing my frustration that having, for the second time, shown that this team really can do the business we have reverted back to the system which is proven to not be effective. Why?
Oh, and by the way ....... you don't have to be "impressed" by what I put on here, it is just an opinion, just like everybody else's. If you don't think much to it, so what, you don't have to. And I don't mind either way. Put me on ignore, if you like, I won't take offence.

The subtext (that was clarified in the subsequent post) wasn't subtle enough, so everyone understood exactly what was being implied. Mental health is often a permanent battle, it's not something a couple of sessions of therapy ''fix''. In many cases, it's a constant case of managing, rather than ever being able to cure.
Discussion and understanding of mental health is improving but sadly you do come across regressive views such as this quite a lot:
Do some reading and garner a deeper understanding of these issues please, because as it stands, you're not qualified to be commenting on them. None us know the lad personally so to be making assumptions like this is not only crass, but also probably incorrect.

    Help me here.
Myself and many others who live abroad or cant get to games pay a substantial monthly subscription to Rams TV. I dont shut mine down in the close season. I continue to pay even though there are no games to watch for a couple of months. Have done this since RamsTV and showing live games started however many years ago that was.

Im far from being wealthy so its quite a large amount from my monthly income whats left over.
So… am I on my own thinking its very cheeky asking for extra money to watch pre season friendlies like today? A fiver isnt much to many but I think this is a bit of a misstep from the club.

Tiny request, but any chance we can have the post title changed to something like "David McGoldrick - negotiating extension"?  I keep seeing the post get bumped with "Signed 1 year deal" in the title and have to click through to find out if it's actually a new deal or not.

    Hi all,
Thanks for all the kind words. They are always massively appreciated, and I will pass them on to the team.
Regards the 21s coverage, we’ve been extremely limited by the number of games we can show this season by Premier League scheduling conflicts & home team consent, and unfortunately the RamsTV team is smaller than ever, which all combined has meant it hasn’t been possible to broadcast many fixtures. Hopefully we’ll be able to show more next season.
Happy to answer any questions, as always.

    Cheers!

I think if the ball had gone over the touchline, the ref would have assumed the defender got there, but because it effectively went precisely where Dobbin would have wanted it to, he assumed Dobbin had done it.

Plus of course, it was in line with their take-out attempts throughout the match
