Operation Phileas Fogg in full swing, we are here on Merseyside, spent the afternoon in the Cavern club (well you have to) Checked in the Crown Plaza for two days, given a nice upgrade to an ocean suite, back out on the town in a while.

Of course I’m down, who isn’t. That post loss tristesse lasts for at least 3 days. The weight of the world is on your shoulders. We got F all. We want to win every game. The style doesn’t seem great either, it doesn’t seem right that ageing wingers are being asked to cover the whole length of the pitch. Yes some “glooms are to be expected.
Yet .. we lost by one goal, away, to one of the leading teams. We have a new manager with limited resources. There’s a whole lot going on behind the scenes. I don’t think for a minute PW isn’t aware of our weaknesses and doesn’t have a plan to address them.
We need to have some faith and some loyalty. It’s way too early to judge anything. For me, it s on to the next game and quite simply .. come on lads, you can do better. UTR !

    Hi guys
My nephew, Jake passed away on August 12th aged 23. Despite being dealt a bad hand he enjoyed life to the full possessing a sharp, dry wit and a fondness for dressing well - the other thing we had in common ? was our love for Derby County!
Many of you will recognise Jake, a life-long season ticket holder in the West Stand attending matches with his Dad.
His family are orchestrating a minutes applause at the 23rd minute during the Port Vale home match on Saturday October 8th.
Extended family will be in attendance and there will be a brief write up about Jake in the match day programme.
These tributes are becoming more common, but I think that because they are often not official and fan-led they are even more poignant - and it would be a great gesture for one of our own.
Assistance in spreading the word from members of this forum would be so very much appreciated.

I kind of think this is something we shouldn’t bicker about too much, especially getting ourselves in entrenched positions and almost falling out with our online “mates”. Games get cancelled/postponed/moved for lots of reasons, Sky, Illness, Internationals. I would have preferred the game to go ahead but just can’t get steamed up about it. And just maybe it’s a good thing that in the rushing routine of life something upsets the normal programme so we have pause for thought and reflection. Not particularly about the queen but about the passing of life and times.

In the grand scheme of things, it would be very difficult to rate it less than a 10, given where we were not too long ago.
But take all of the outside factors away and I'd personally give it an 8.
I would have liked a RB and perhaps another wide forward, and maybe not so many 30+ year olds. But that's me being very picky.

Pride was great and I Just ordered this - really looking forward to it. Arthur Cox era next? That was my favourite time as a Rams fan. Could be a good book. The few years before would be interesting also, though for different reasons!

Just under 5 weeks ago we had 5 players, this virtually new squad will take time to gel and get better. Steve Cotterill's teams are always hard to score against, even last season they only conceded 51 goals even though they finished in 18th position. The fixtures have not been kind to us, having played up until tonights game against teams that finished in the top half of the table barring Barnsley who came down with us. Rams fans please have faith, it's a long season and not a sprint.

I really don't subscribe to the view that the EFL have given a referees a directive to treat Derby County unfairly. Just my opinion of course.

Agreed...we didn't know what relegation would mean. But now I'm coming to terms with it rather than just saying 'as long as we have a team'.
If we had clung on in the Championship we would be competing with a few clubs of equal size as well as plenty of clubs with finances distorted by parachute payments.
In League 1 we don't need to 'overstretch' to compete unnaturally, we can just flex our natural strength and recruit players that everyone else is looking at enviously.
We aren't too big for the League, but we are big enough to be able to throw our weight around. We can have a great season, seeing new grounds and building momentum, instead of scrabbling round near the bottom of the Championship.  I'm happy thinking the wages we can afford wouldn't have recruited better players at that level but at League 1 standard we now have a team to be really proud of.

I hope we’ll have a couple of different ways of playing. Sometimes use the possession based football of the last few years given that should make use of the technical strengths of some of our players, Bird and Hourihane to play through balls, McGoldrick dropping deep and players running beyond him. At other times be a little more direct with Barkhuizen/NML and the fullbacks driving forward and putting in crosses for Collins/A N.Other, if playing like that we need someone else from midfield pushing into the box like prime Bryson.
What I really want to see this season is more intent to win games. Not sure if down to tactics, circumstance or both but there have been too many matches in recent memory where I feel we’ve been scared to go out and chase the win. I want more games like the Stoke away game from last season where the intent is to impose our style on the opposition and win the 3 points. Actually get some shots, crosses and forward passing going.

He speaks so well. Get the distinct impression that at some point this season Blackpool will end up kicking themselves.
I have nothing against Wayne, but the main reason why I didn’t overly mind him leaving was that you get the sense that we’ve managed to retain the brains of the operation in Liam.
