Ramarena reacted to Ambitious in Trusting Sibley and setting up to attack or defend
I watched Sibley numerous times for the academy and a few times for the first team. I genuinely haven’t see anything wrong with the lad’s ability to defend or help the defence. He’s much more likely to put his body on the line than 90% of the attacking midfielders in the Championship. He’s also the most accomplished ball carrier this team has, in all honesty that’s not even close to being debatable.
Sibley has the highest ceiling of any player this club has and he’s the only person we have that is capable of offering what we need. It’s football’s greatest crime that he isn’t in this Derby team week in, week out. It’s a travesty that he has to be at such a poorly run club whilst he’s developing, at least give him the freedom of pride park to generate some excitement for the poor bar stewards that are going to have to sit and watch through the season!

Countless times over the years we've heard fans clamouring for player X to start, normally I've been able to understand where the manager has been coming from when he's not playing be it a settled team doing well, player y who's in the team having done nothing to lose their place or some tactical reason.

This time I genuinely can't see any reason why Sibley is not playing. We're desperately short of goals and he regularly looks like the most likely to score or create something. With CKR playing as a hold up striker we need someone to get in and around him or run past him otherwise we're playing in front of the opposition all the time relying on getting wide and crosses in. Even when we do that we've generally only got one or two in the box as theirs noone pushed on and we're not the best aerially to get on the end of them anyway. Sibley gets ahead of the striker pushing the opposition defence back and provides an extra body in the box which is why I think we always look more dangerous when he's playing.

Add into that he's home grown and one good season with 10-15 goals from him could see him be worth 10 million plus which would help the club massively given our current state.

For me we should build the team round him but at the very least he needs a consistent run of games in the team, in his best position and not stuck out on the wing, or being dropped after an average game when he's been no worse than anyone else as has been the case over Rooney's tenure.

Morrison will start ahead of sibbo even though the defensive side of his game is pretty weak.

Sorry but Sibley was the most threatening of our front five and only played for forty minutes.
He needs to start as he’s the most likely one to score and/or create for me.

I think the problem for us right now is the transitions. We look so open on the counter. Bird and shinnie overrun in midfield. I definatly think a retweak in system is needed. I’d definatly go for the 433 with sibley and bird as the runners

Do we set up to score goals or to not concede goals? The Euros saw Gareth Southgate pick 8 or 9 defensive players every game and it worked for a while but couldn't get him over the line, with an incredible array of attacking talent on his bench. Rooney has far fewer options but a very similar mindset.
Asked in today's Radio Derby interview why Louie Sibley doesn't start Rooney effectively said he doesn't trust him defensively. Sibbo is to Rooney what Jack Grealish is to Southgate. Rooney said he didn't play Sibbo specifically because his number one priority was not to fall behind in the match.
Here's the interview https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p09pv3hb with the best version of the interview at 46:30.
Derby's problem is not scoring goals. Louie Sibley is the biggest goal threat our team has. Aston Villa built their team around Grealish until selling him for £100m. If Derby are going to survive (and maybe thrive) this season we need to build our team around Sibbo, not give him a cameo in which to try to make the difference. How best to do this?
I have long argued that the 4-2-3-1 does not work for us and we should be playing 4-3-3 (set up as 4-1-2-3). With the players available at the moment we should have Shinnie shielding the defence and then we can have Morrison and Sibley as the two more forward midfielders, which gives a forward line of Kazim-Richards central and Jozwiak and Thomas wide. So much more threatening than what we have at the moment.
With a team desperate for goals, having your 5 most dangerous attacking players in the line-up seems a no brainer. Rooney needs to learn to trust Sibley, and I am certain that trust would be rewarded.

Just posted this on the Transfer Forum....
We need more decent players, not less.
Last season, despite illogical substitutions, he was often our most dangerous player.
After one game this season, so many are wanting him gone.
Wingers are inconsistent, it's part of their nature, give the lad a chance when the team is fully assembled and operating at its maximum.

This has to be the dumbest idea I've ever heard , are you serious? He plays well for Poland surrounded by world class players he doesn't look out of place , add the fact he's gone on record to say he struggled last year in a new country alone and then beilik getting injured being the only player he shares a common connection with at the time ,  and everyone played terrible last year lets face it and they have been playing championship football for years, his ability on the ball to hold it up and beat a man before passing is way beyond that of any other player we have currently , yes his decision making last minute has been questionable,  but if he had that in abundance currently then he wouldn't be here currently would he? Other than sibbo he's the only attacking player I see currently capable of taking on a man , he tracks back regular and grafts all game not to mention the ground he makes up with his pace to stop the other team breaking,  can we sin-bin people for uneducated silly posts??

I’m not sure anyone can suggest he doesn’t work hard.  Criticise his lack of end product by all means but he’s definitely a trier.  Seems to lack a bit of confidence to me. His performances in the Euros suggest he’s talented and yesterday he was at least trying to carry the ball, something we did not do enough of.
It’s probably best to support him and provide encouragement rather than pick him to pieces.
Wish he’d have put his laces through that opportunity in the second half.

    Agree completely
Im assuming Lawrence was dropping deep to get the ball as it was about the only area on the pitch where there was space to get the ball without a man being up his backside
this goes back to the point some have made and yourself about runners in behind be it a midfielder or the centre forward … obviously CKR isn’t going to do that ( although he did chase down a couple of round the corner fozzy balls, but he ain’t putting the fear of god into them ) and when we’re playing a holding two neither shinnie or bird are going to be breaking ranks
if we we’re to get a willing runner who does go in behind then that pushes them that little bit deeper toward their goal.. in turn creating pockets for our players to exploit
until we get willing runners to go in behind be it a front man/widemen or midfielders then we’ll remain easy to play against and will continue to create v little

If Sibley doesn't get a good rating/review because he didn't score, then everyone else must get an even worse rating/review because they didn't even look like scoring... Well other than Davies of course.

Some pretty harsh opinions being expressed about a couple of players I think. Criticism of Bird in particular, who I thought was tidy and assured, if not spectacular.
I managed to get ‘my’ seat and unfortunately so did the blokes who sit around me who, while extolling the virtues of a crowd being at the ground to ‘support the lads’ took a whole 11 minutes to fall into their usual ‘moaning old gits ’ mode and proceeded to slag off every Derby player on the pitch for the next 80 mins. They love a scapegoat and Jozwiak seems to be the man of the moment. To be fair, they’ve waited a long time to vent their spleens to anybody who is forced to listen, so I’m sure it was a lot of fun for them. It is amazing though how quickly they rolled back the years and got into their ‘groove’.

I’m not suggesting it was a performance without criticism, but considering the build up, it wasn’t terrible. We obviously need to work on defending set pieces (something I’ve been saying for 40 years) and give fewer free kicks away (very naive at times). Cutting down the number of chances we allow from these areas should be of paramount importance. But overall defending from open play was OK.
We’re obviously not going to score a bag full of goals, so a solid back 4 is imperative.

Best thing about yesterday was that given all the talk of protests and abusing Mel, the atmosphere was actually quite chilled and positive (apart from the chuckle brothers who sit near me). Might not have been that way if we’d gone 1-0 down or lost, but it was nice all the same.

    Totally disagree.
Firstly, Bird's primary role playing at DM is controlling the tempo, which he does by knocking pop passes around (wrongly tarred as pointless sideways passes) whilst looking for forward players in space. He's also very under-rated defensively & often cuts out attacks with his positional intelligence as opposed to Shinnie's terrier like approach.
Secondly, he is very capable of playing killer passes. There were a couple in the Salford friendly & plenty from last season (Luton away, Huddersfield away criminally flagged offside & Boro at home..just off top of my head).
My main criticism of him is that he needs to move into space a bit more, like he did when he first got into the team last Jan. Also believe he needs to be more advanced & central but thats a fault of current tactics rather than the player himself. Fully believe he's a very good player in the making & that opinion shared by those in the know...Cocu made him captain & Rooney has spoken about him one day being England quality.
