  1. Only tuned in for the second half and was expecting the worst from all the comments - that was a mental, exciting and entertaining 45 with a deserved 3 points at the end of it. If we'd have lost that I'd have been gutted because we were doing the right things, just not finishing them off. Every team is there to be got at and love how we just go for teams even if things aren't quite coming off. We're not going to play teams off the park every game but we'll try and win the game as a minimum. It's relentless.

Subs injected that extra bit for us. We seemed to control the game a bit better but whether that was due to them dropping off or us changing it up I don't know.

Re: Dobbin. Two things can be right. He can be a terrible finisher and people can say so because it's the truth. But he can also have had an amazing impact that won us the game. Those two dribbles and crosses were unbelievably good.

  2. I don't mind it although it's not a stat I purposely search for or use in arguments.

I like it when used in the controversial sense of a smash and grab result, I think it adds a bit more context than black and white shot statistics.

  3. Left on 91 so missed their goal - up until that I thought it was a very comfortable, professional job well done against a team with similar ambitions. Wasn't too impressed with Bolton, not sure I've seen a team misplace that many passes all year. They looked tidy at times but lacked any sort of threat. Their goalkeeper and centre halves were terrible with the ball.

    Couple of notable points against "better" opposition;

Curt and Fozzy didn't look comfortable with the ball at their feet, the sooner we get Cashin back the better. They dealth with everything in the air perfectly.

Hourihane and Bird were anonymous at times. I thought Bolton's midfielders won the battle, they just didn't have any quality. It was a game of badminton at times in the second half and Hourihane and Bird were the net. Top class finish from the former though to wrap the game up.

Knight was very good. As was Barks. Onto the next, great win.

Cowboys should win that, “should”, kinda hope they do as well, Tom Brady has had his time.

    Easy.

In all seriousness we've got a hell of a challenge next Sunday but glad we get a chance to have a pop at them. If last nights Cowboys turn up we're in with a shot. We've not seen that team much in the second half of the season unfortunately.

    Broadly agree, but...

    2019/20
Minutes: 1910, Shots: 10 (5 from outside of the box)
A shot every 191 minutes  (every 382 from outside)

    2020-21
Minutes: 2066, Shots 18 (10 from outside of the box)
A shot every 115 minutes (every 207 from outside)

    2021/22
Minutes: 3617, Shots: 35 (27 from outside of the box)
A shot every 103 minutes (every 134 from outside)

    2022/23
Minutes: 2140, Shots:  17 (11 from outside of the box)
A shot every 126 minutes (every 195 from outside)

Granted 'outside of the box' doesn't differentiate between 18 and 80 yards (he may well only ever have hit them from 34 yards out or below before Saturday) but this idea that gets floated about quite regularly about Bird not being allowed to shoot or play it forward under previous managers is a bit of a myth.

Bird is improving, Warne is helping of course (and it isn't all about shots), but the clamour to attribute absolutely everything positive to some step change brought about by the management of Warne is something else.

I think you've done a deep dive into something I wasn't really arguing. It's not about shots at all, totally agree. But in that situation; 40/45 yards from goal when he picks the ball up with space, time, passing options etc I just don't think Bird takes it on under previous regimes/previous seasons.

Maybe it's Warne and the coaching teams influence, maybe it's Max naturally growing into the position but for the first quarter of the season and the years before that I just don't remember Max taking on situations like that. He was offloading that ball to somebody else more often than not and playing it safe.

  6. My biggest criticism of him was how passive he was but I don’t see that player as often any more. He’s still a developing player but one who’s playing with the most intent he ever has done and it’s starting to paying off.

Not sure he’d have shot from 35 yards out under LR and previous management.

Plenty more to come from Max, hopefully with the Rams.

  7. I think some people had made their minds up about Warne before we'd even kicked a ball and compounded with the harsh departure of LR, it made a pretty negative atmosphere on here and in the ground around his arrival.

If you expected success and anything but disjointed performances from the first few games then that's more fool you. We were stuttering under LR after 12 games so I feel he got a rough ride early doors. I'm still of the opinion it wasn't even hoofball, people were just seeing what they wanted to. If you look back through those early games there are stats that posters have contributed that argue the exact opposite.

A good run so far but he's not achieved anything yet. Deserves a chance over the next 12/24 months to try and get us up.

If you can get past the overly-excitable press conferences he's seems a good bloke. The We Are Derby videos give you a better picture of his management/leadership style and a good view of what kind of man he is. He's loved up here in SY and the locals are interested to see what he can do with some actual resources (eventually anyway!).

  8. I'm in Dublin that weekend so couldn't have worked out any better for me personally but that's a shocker for the 99% of people it will no doubt hinder.

Will be good under the lights mind.
