Personally, I prefer it when my team has the ball.  Warne seems to set his teams out to run around like madmen to win the ball back, and then as soon as we actually have it, give it away immediately so we can run around some more.

Do any of the stats back this up? Or is this another myth to add to the long line of Warneball myths. Swear we controlled loads of matches last season and some of our possession stats were outrageous to say all we do is apparently boot it and run after it.

I think with better players the system will look better on the eye. We had a couple of 'bombscare' defenders in the team last season in Curtis and Fozzy - who generally do the opposite of looking after the ball. Knight was guilty of being poor on the ball too. Bird can play better. Hoping with our improvements this summer it will look a bit better.

Now that 'ol bobble hat Warney (I do like him honestly) is in the throes of assembling a team "in his own image", do we expect to see WarneBall in its purest form?

I fear but hope it's not just:

    1. run around a lot
    2. hoof the ball down the channels
    3. get to it and cross it early
    4. scrap for it in the box
    5. score goal
    6. defend the lead by running about even more

If that wins us 25-30 games and gets us promoted, so what?

  3. I can’t imagine PW sat down with the recruitment team a week after the play off loss and agreed on a plan to only enquire about Rhodes in mid July. This is opportunist, potentially because our other plans have gone to pot.

Screams of lack of availability for our targets. We’re at the mercy of other clubs for good players. That or this big budget DC spoke of isn’t big enough.

  4. Whilst the disruption is welcome, Ukraine could do with that rail line being knocked out for Russia to really feel the logistical pinch. Nice to see the USV's have some success after the last few blunted attacks on Sevastopol.

It appears Russia are trying to copy the UK's F-35B underwater capability by sending one of their Su-25's into the deep as well this morning. Probably not worth the recovery costs unlike our fiasco in 2021.

  5. Anderson back in for Robinson. Ali stays at three…

Not a fan of Ali at 3 but probably epitomises this summer so far. Massive gamble but Ali and Bairstow have that destructive nature, form aside. We just need it to come off in our hour of need.

    Must win!

Yeah a real chancer, now looks like

                                                                       Wildsmith

                                   Rooney                         Nelson                              Cashin

    Wilson                            Bird                                         Radcliffe                                 Thompson

                                                                        Hourihane

                                            NML                                                  Brown

That’s how I used to set up the opposition on Champ Manager 01/02 if I needed to win a game by 10.

No it’s crap when I’m on here right

    Not at all.

Just jumped in head first this morning I think mate. We’ve got weeks until the season starts and if we have to go with what we have - so be it. It was always going to be a quiet week with everyone away, would hope a few rumours begin to surface next week.

Plenty to be upbeat about. Another chance to see the new lads and the young uns tomorrow.

We’ve already lost Pope. Foakes for Bairstow would further weaken the batting.

Root’s dropped plenty of chances. Should we be dropping him, too?

I think we just can't avoid the fact he's out of sorts. It was always a gamble after the injury and then no match fitness coming into this series and so far it's backfired. The catches, the Green stumping, excessive byes, going walkies out his crease and his mediocre at best batting all accumulate into a pretty poor series so far for Johnny. Stokes and Baz are hoping he can redeem himself in the last two where hopefully he's a bit sharper and better with the bat. If anyone can put together a couple of series winnings innings it's him.

The safe thing to do would have been to go to Foakes but when has this England team every been about safe.

Root's our best player and currently the 5th highest run scorer in the series - a statistic which will define his continued inclusion in the team, not his catching. His hands have been shoddy all series though which shouldn't be forgotten.

Reading back with hindsight, how wonderful!

Some  comments I do feel are harsh. Top of my head JB averaging 36+ I believe, not shabby at all. I’ve mentioned previously, what he did last summer was sublime. Please don’t forget he destroyed NZ. He eats sleeps and breathes cricket. In interview he’s fantastic. I do now agree Foakes should have had a recall as JB isn’t in the best of nick. Same squad has been announced so rather than hoping he fails I hope everyone gets behind him and he gets his game back.
    Game on!

I've got him averaging 24 according to my spreadsheet.. (yep, believe it - cricket saddo with loads of time on his hands). Same as his oppo Carey, Warner and Labuschagne. So he's not in bad company.

As much as he's still in there because his best buddy is the captain, he has the ability to win us this series alone and the England camp know that. Those knocks last year were iconic. That said, it looks a long shot given his performances so far.

you get out this division with a young energic team like plymouth & ipswich just have

Or you could flip it the other way and say you get out of this division with the oldest squad in the league! (Wednesday).

You can have older players if they're capable. Whilst Fozzy, Davies, Steaman and co were all absolute heroes, they were all way past their peak and could barely run at times. 28-31 year old signings don't worry me at all as long as they're the right fit.

    Hello Chaps

Apologies for the long term absence, been a fairly tumultuous couple of years off the pitch for Leicester Ram unfortunately

The Dynasty league was something I was very happy to do when I was basically unemployed

I’m now exhaustingly employed, living in London and have been dealing with a lot of really unfortunate family/personal life stuff - it’s not a environment which is conducive to the rigours of fantasy football commissionership

Sadly, I’ve lost a lot of interest in the NFL and now Derby. Been a tricky few years and what really put the nail in the coffin was that my uncle, who was the person who got me into football, made me a Derby fan and I had my season ticket with, unfortunately died of a heart attack in April - it’s been pretty devastating

I quite frankly (and this is no reflection on any of you who are all a great laugh and have always been a pleasure to deal with) couldn’t give a f*** anymore

I’m just not really interested in dealing any of this and hope people understand. I was going to see how I felt closer to the start of the season and see if I wanted to pick it up again but I’m on a much needed holiday this week and have had a bit of time to think about a few things - I know that I won’t want to do it again. I feel bad because it’s really not *that* much effort but I’m a wasted spot in the league and the past season really reflects that , I would feel very bad for whoever takes my team on lol

I know there were others in the league who weren’t interested in carrying on as well so I would suggest that either:

Someone else can take my spot as commissioner and can find owners for the other teams

Or I’ll nuke the league and you guys can start fresh with potentially a smaller group of the committed ones? That’s what I’d suggest, you’ll have the fun of a draft and maybe have more of a laugh with 8 of you having a better share of the players?

Apologies to those who put together some great teams and were looking forward to it continuing, I wish things were different - I owe you a beer if I ever meet you in the Brunny!

    Cheers

@David @Carnero @Ambitious @jimbo jones @Mr Tibbs and all the others in the league

Sorry to hear about your loss mate, I hope the future holds some good things for you and your family.

  12. We've been doing such a good job of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory and unfortunately it continues. We won't win a test if we carry on playing like this.

Wood and Woakes have been positives. Hopefully one of them gets the 5-fer.

  13. A shame Stokes couldn't pull off another miracle but that first innings has done us (again).

2-0 down, time for changes? Stoke's saying it's another close one but take his innings out and it's pretty damning. Some really poor batting.

The batting line up will stay the same with only Dan Lawrence in the squad who could replace someone. Pope and Crawley have been underwhelming but they'll get another bite at it on Thursday. Anderson is having no impact and will surely be rested. Broad to be rested too with such a quick turn around potentially.

Probably 2 from Potts, Wood, Woakes and Ali. The latter 3 would add some batting to a pretty poor tail.

  14. It's not cheating but probably starts the argument of whether it's in the "spirit of the game" as the Indian Women did when they took the bails off of the non-strikers end before bowling.

I think Johnny needs to be a bit more switched on though.
