Spot on.  Call it dark arts, game management or whatever it’s what we need to do.  We need to disrupt the play when the opposition are on top.  Take our time at throw ins and goal kicks, needless fouls on the half way line, etc.  Basically, take any opportunity to disrupt the rhythm and it’s even more important away from home.  It might be unpopular but we need a Robbie Savage type player.  And one or two in their mid-20’s.

I'm sure PW will have showed their equaliser to White and Knight today and told them they need to be so much better when they've got us on the run. Multiple opportunities there to take a yellow and get back in.

Barnsley did it to us loads the other week, not nice to watch if you're an opposing fan but it does the trick. To come away with results against the better teams we're going to have to do it. We're a bit too naive and nice for sure.

  2. In the last two I don't think we've been a million miles away from 6 points, despite the evident tired legs.

Four goals from four poor/unfortunate circumstances. Fozzy playing out at the wrong time, the Rooney shove, a Barks terrible corner and then a ridiculous penalty. I think we've been our own worst enemy this week - if we can avoid that there's a realistic chance we can carry on playing the same way. We're not getting outplayed, just punished.

  3. What are we giving him the benefit of the doubt for? Was he stopped in his tracks? Obstructed in any way? The answer is no.

There's no contact from that "dangling leg" that would make a human being go down like that. It's pure simulation. His knee's have given way from potential brushing of his toe? That's even if there's any contact at all.

I'm not normally that bothered with refs and dodgy decisions but that one's just pathetic. It's a dive, there's not a foul there - let's not beat around the bush.

  4. Whilst the results tonight mean everybody's rearends are now twitching, I honestly don't think it was even that bad. Just tired/old/slow/young/inexperienced. Struggle to see what else you can do to make the midfield more competitive. Effectively had two DM's in there tonight and we got nowhere near them at times.

Fine for 59 minutes, even weathered the "storm" after HT. But momentum changes games, they got that from another Derby mistake. A s*** corner and a terrible penalty decision later and the games turned on it's head. Subs gave us nothing. Dobbin and Springett seriously lacking in quality. Collins completely ineffective (as was Didzy tbf). Plymouth the better team without having to create much, just more athletic and much more quality on the ball.

Luckily for us we don't have to play Plymouth every week. Oxford, Fleetwood, Forest Green and MK Dons in our next 6. If you think we can't pick up enough points to stay relevant then fair doo's. I'm not too confident we'll make waves in the Play Offs but I think we're more than good enough to get there. Hang on in there chaps and lasses.

Anybody impressed with Plymouth so far ??

Bunch of Hackers and journeymen  with a manager who will go on to spaff it off at say Luton or southampton.

    Yes.

Reckon I could count on one hand how many matches I've watched this season against opposition who look comfortable in possession, Plymouth account for two of those now. Pretty blunt in attack so far but a team who are good with the ball are a very dangerous thing at this level, as we have shown many times ourselves.

I remember a certain Argentinian Manager at a Yorkshire club, who shall remain nameless, doing exactly the same. High energy game and falling away at the season's end. I hope I'm wrong.

If what then happened to them after that season happens to us…

Sign me up for some of that.

  7. Bar a mad 20 mins I thought the control was pretty much there yesterday. 20 mins under the cosh that all started from individual mistakes.

A call for more possession? 61% is more than enough. Second most in the league yesterday, far more than any of our rivals. Third highest possession in the league overall this year, I don’t think that’s a problem.

Theres no doubt a few are ball bagged but look at the team for what it is. Old men and inconsistent kids. Mistakes will happen and teams will have a period in the ascendancy, we’ve just got to cut out the lapses at the back.

  8. As if last Saturday wasn’t a big enough warning when faffing around with the ball at the back… why isn’t Fozzy just putting that ball 40 foot in the air out of play? Then to not bring him down straight away. Really frustrating to do that a couple of minutes after the half and unfortunately it set the tone for the next 20. Anyone but Dobbin from 6 yards out and then Collins trying bicycle kicks… what an annoying second half.

First half was one of the most comfortable of the season. Big shame, that.

  9. Comfortable win in the end, despite it feeling like a grind at times. Still, exactly what we all wanted pre-kick off so will take it all day long. I’m in no rush to get back to losing at home to Preston, Cardiff and all the other boring teams we’ve played a trillion times this millennium.
No problem taking in another season of routine wins whilst we get a squad together and some restrictions lifted, if that’s what it comes to.

Davey McG is a joke. Thought he had a quiet first half but he’s the most gifted player in the league that I’ve seen so far.  Murdered that defender, who looked about half his age, for the second goal.

Dobbin played well. Looks world class and non-league in the same phase of play but it’s certainly effective at this level.

Tough game Saturday but hopefully that’ll kick us on a bit.

    Didn’t need Phillips either.

Satisfies one of the home-grown spots needed though. City probably never want a situation where he is a starter but he's good enough cover whilst also ticking some of the administrative boxes for PL squads.

Probably something similar for the CL.

  11. I might miss every home game for the rest of the season because we are Played 8 Won 8 in my absence this year. Whoever's had my ST in my place has had value for money thats for sure.

Can't grumble at that result. Biggest criticism (and there aren't many) in here seems to be Charlton had chances??  When is that ever not the case in a game of football.

Big one next week, looking forward to it.

Thinking back to that game and the early part of the season. Rightly or wrongly, I have always considered that James Collins inability to put the ball in the net highly contributed to Liam Rosenior losing his position. My memory might be cloudy but I seem to recall he missed a glutton of opportunities, taking a while to get off the mark.

Wouldn't that be on LR's head for signing him then? Feel it's harsh to blame a run of the mill L1 player, coming off the back of a 3 goal season, for the managers downfall.

I don't recall Collins missing sitters but I remember Knighty missing two vs Charlton and Fleetwood that stick in the memory. That was back when he was a rusty right back though, I'd back him to put those two chances away now.

For tomorrow I'm not bothered about the team, we just need to see a reaction. You'd like to think Dobbin, Collins and Roberts have reacted well to being dragged at half time on Tuesday so if PW thinks they've shown enough in training then I'll trust his opinion. 2-1 Derby.

  13. I don't think Bird would have made much of a difference last night. He can't control and pass it for the other 10 players.

He'd just be in the same position Cashin and then White were in - loads of the ball with nothing in front of him to pass to. I think he's better than White so his return will be key but his replacement needs a few games under his belt until we get a proper feel for him.

I am getting a little concerned about NML. Him and McGoldrick have been our best players this season. But NML has now played more games this season than he has played in the last 2 combined. He has never played 45 games in a season and looks to be running out of steam or he has lost the confidence to go round people .

Whilst I don't think NML is quite at it, Lincoln's RB had him in his back pocket most of the night due to good defending IMO. Hardly got tight so wasn't easily done and when NML did get past him, he was brought down both times to stop the attack. Pretty textbook performance but you don't see it every week thankfully. He's one of the better RB's I've seen at this level, most can hardly run never mind defend.

  15. Too many players off it tonight. Throw in an incompetent officiating team and a an away side mastering the dark arts and it was a pretty frustrating night.

Roberts and Dobbin's first half was one of the worst I've seen from a left hand side duo. No composure or quality at all. Collins ineffective. Thought Knight was off it for him - way to many stray passes but he wasn't the only one. Must be in the minority over Cashin as I thought he played well, having him and Fozzy play such a high line vs 10 was going to give us issues.

Them going down to 10 was a good moment for us (obviously) as we had zero control of the game, even with 5 in the middle. Shades of the away game at their place up until that decision, they were organised and got stuck in but we'd normally have enough to beat a side like that.

Can't be arsed to start with the ref and lino. Embarrassing. Almost as embarrassing as the boo's at HT and FT, anyone would have thought we'd have not won in 17 games previously, not the opposite! I don't think anyone expects PP to be rocking these days but it was a flat one tonight, coupled with the discontent I don't think it did anyone on the pitch a favour unless they were wearing red. That said, plenty of players who can look at their performances tonight and admit it wasn't their best. Couple of days on the training ground and we go again.

I think the EFL rules preventing DCFC from extending the contracts of Academy professionals on low wages and offering professional contracts to players turning 17 robbed DCFC of sufficient players to run functioning teams below 1st team level, put additional strain on those youngsters left behind, presented bargains to clubs that we owed nothing to, and potentially robbed unsecured creditors from receiving further funds over and above what any prospective owner was willing to pay (eg : if DCFC had been able to extend Ebosele's  contract on the proviso that any profit from a future transfer was split in an agreed proportion between the club and unsecured creditors, it would at least have meant potentially more money for creditors and no unearned bargain for Udineseford. It would also have meant that, in the event that the club was liquidated, the EFL would have been able to claim higher compensation from any club wishing to acquire their registrations). Their short-sighted rule also, in the case of Ebosele, meant that his Irish club missed out on a healthy sell-on fee.

This is the main bit that I feel aggrieved by. Just a ridiculous situation all round.

The rest of it is just a product of coming out of administration. Play with feathers, you get your arse tickled - and the club under the last ownership played with far too many.

You’d eat humble pie if his effort onto the bar had been a half inch lower.

If only yeah. We could just ignore the reality of the situation and say he's a really good finisher if you like. I like Dobbin but I don't understand the need to lie about an area he is currently extremely poor in.

It’s a bit early to make up your mind

He can also be a 19 year old kid on loan at a big but ailing club, with all the pressure that brings, who gets endless stick, way more than any other member of the squad and yet tries his f****** heart out every game, creating as many scoring chances for others as anyone on the roster.

    This s***'s easy! ?

Never said he wasn’t any of those things, so yeah, agreed? I think?!

But for that specific moment I don’t disagree with any of the comments describing it. Write him off at your peril though.
