This is ridiculous. 123 behind. No more batters to come.
-
What a terrible start.
-
Fair play to the Aussies - they've set the traps and we've been suckered in. Throwing the game away again after battling so hard to get back in it.
-
I'll no doubt jinx us but..
We've started really well and Crawley looks in very good knick.

Top six but even if not I'll weigh up the circumstances.
Better Derby managers and better Derby teams have failed to achieve what they "should have" over the years so it won't be the end of the world if we fail again. Sheet happens, life goes on.

This is moving very quickly.
The M2 has been blocked northbound into Moscow, Wagner seizing towns, cities and airfields with little resistance and images/videos are filtering through of Russian AF losses - of note so far a Mi-35 helicopter and what looks like a Russian air force bomber, presumably Su-33/Su-34. Edit: Not quite the scalp of a 33/35 - confirmed An-26.
Unbelievable really! Long may it continue if it spares Ukraine the brunt of Russia's military focus.

Big Trav RN. Not a bad week!

I'm not that bothered about Johnny B (yet), it's the ineffectiveness these pitches are having/potentially going to have on our all-time leading wicket taker. Leading wicket taker in tests at Lords too but is there any point if there's another road awaiting us?
Can't remember a time when a new ball wouldn't go into the hands of Anderson.

I think if it wasn't against the Aussies I'd be able to enjoy the spectacle this test match was, a little more than I currently am anyway! Fair play to Cummins and Lyon, hung on in there. Superb test match all round.
Of course everyone will look to the declaration but it won't be the last one to raise a few eyebrows I'm sure. I'm not fully on board with it but Stokes sticking to his principles is refreshing for the sport, especially in conventional test match cricket. It certainly beats watching Dom Sibley and Rory Burns block the life out of the game.
Tough gig for us to turn it around now, especially with the Lords test next up where we've won 2 tests since 1934 vs this lot, albeit two in the past two decades.

Nah, die trying - and I hate losing to these.

Came away disappointed and a bit flat yesterday but on reflection I think that was a pretty good day we just missed the opportunities to make it really count. If Broady's no-ball wasn't as so, we'd have had a good hour at the tail with the new ball. Hopefully we don't rue that and the Bairstow bits come Monday.
Broad with the new ball this morning the most likely outlet to a breakthrough. Tough day yesterday for Anderson and Robinson, didn't seem to give much away but pretty ineffective in all honesty.

A close game but the two sides are miles apart. If the other supposedly best team in Europe can only set out to stop the other team playing it's a pretty sorry state of affairs. Doesn't look out of place in League One but it made a dire spectacle for the continents biggest game of the year.
A victory for football.

Disappointed but wish him all the best, was a fantastic servant for the club in the short time he was here.

Handy runs from Carey and Starc down the order. Warner looks in terrible nick as a slight consolation for us.
India started well mind, Rohit playing some shots.

Can't see a massive fee but then again Jeff Hendrick went for near on 12 million didn't he.
The market is daft for young international players no matter how good they are, hope we milk the fee.

Glad test cricket is back but feel a tad shortchanged in entertainment and meaningful preparation for Australia. The test will likely be complete without 3 of our best batters even seeing the field.
Looking forward to seeing the ICC Test Final on Wednesday which should be some game.

Don't mind Maguire's inclusion to be honest. Whilst nowhere near his best for United, he had a good WC and had a big part to play (good and bad) in Englands recent win in Italy, our first there in 62 years. I think his relationship, understanding and chemistry with the squad along with his decent form for England justifies his inclusion.
Lewis Dunk and Marc Guehi are being given a chance ahead of the likes of Tomori, White, Burn etc. The argument should be why Guehi over Tomori IMO, not Maguire. Leaving out Maguire would leave us with only Stones and Mings as the two senior centre halves in the squad. Not to mention half the players listed in this thread aren't regularly playing CB this season for their clubs...
The midfield I'm not overly excited by. Gallagher, Maddison and Phillips have all had 'meh' seasons and haven't really added much at this level previously. Phillips showed a bit during Euro 2020 but has hardly kicked a ball since. Hopefully Bellingham, Rice and Hendo take most of the minutes.
Tough decision to be made up top as one of Rashford/Grealish/Saka will likely be left out of the starting 11 if he continues with his normal system.

If the Ukrainian Air Force are responsible for knocking out a Su-34 and Su-35 with their dated (whilst upgraded) fleet of Mig 29's and Su-27's in such fashion I'd be pretty worried if I was the RuAF.
Friendly fire I'd imagine but not beyond impossible for an AMRAAM launch from near the border.

Robbed of an opportunity to have a fair chance at scrapping for 6th. Just another s**** decision against us. It’s a soft penalty but never a red.
Better team until that decision, also played pretty well with 10.
Proper shame we were allowed to have a go at Wednesday in the play offs because there was nothing between us. Bit more quality from Bird and NML and we’re in. I’m
Don’t mind another year down here because there’s plenty more away trips to tick off but hopefully we can make sure incompetent refereeing doesn’t affect our season next year.
Up the Rams.

I think Dom Sibley is more dimensional than what we've seen over the past 24 hours.
If they took the ignorance and utter brainless approach out of Bazball it would be fine. You can be aggressive without taking on a stupid amount of risk. I didn't think there was anything wrong with the way Crawley and Duckett built our innings with a run rate of 5. What came after was kamikaze.
The best teams have to be adaptable regardless of how they want to play and what we've seen has been far from that. We were in such a good position, Aussie bowlers not looking threatening and then we turned it into one-dimensional cack. For how bad Sibley, Burns and co. were they didn't get spanked at home in an Ashes series - something which is now on the cards.
It's going to take a lot of rain or a Headingley 2019 to get us out of this mess.
