I've been sulking for the past few hours and the misses isn't one bit impressed ?

Mine neither. Apparently I said I'd buy her a nice dinner tonight (takeaway obvs!) but she's blue-screened her PC and has been moaning for hours that I won't lend her mine. Says she can't read the menus on her phone. Yeah, right! There's beans and crackers in the cupboard love!

    * I'm laughing now but she's terrifying and I know I'll be paying a heavy price tomorrow, literally!!!

Stretton is better than Cresswell in almost every way. Duncan needs a target man to play off. We won't see the best of his whilst he's leading the line

Thought Duncan was excellent tonight in a role, as you pointed out, that doesn't play to his strengths. there's a really exciting player there I reckon.

Back on thread, I think this is a good move for Jahmal. Should get plenty of game time and will toughen up a little too, no doubt. I'm not even close to writing him off yet.

    Bahahaha

Shouldn't laugh really but the way he simply can't wait to kick the first guy before hurtling over with a proper 'you can have some anorl, sunshine' effort on the second is hilarious. Not many players can manage two red card offences on a drop ball before the feckin ball even bounces ?

  4. As with Kaide, I have mixed emotions about this. On the one hand, if the £3M figure for Kaide is true and we're securing decent add-ons, it's hard to walk away. Likewise if Manure are offering silly money for the others. That said, it's such a shame that kids this young are leaving well before they've even had a squeak at first team football.

On a separate note, the powers that be need to have a look at the current regs. In this post-Brexit apocalyptic and dystopian new world order, allowing Premiership clubs to raid lower division academies might not bode well for EFL clubs unless the mandatory compo levels are looked at.

Liverpool have press ganged Derby into taking a paltry fee for a young player, who decided a 200 k signing on fee would be nice. The fee will be less than they pay there reserve goalie for a month with no adds on as Derby were desperate and couldn't risk a tribunal.

Where has all this been reported buddy?

Can’t be arsed to see if someone else has mentioned it, but Ted Lasso on Apple TV+ is well worth a watch. Trailers and lukewarm reviews put me off, but some very good word of mouth, after it came out made me give it a go, and I’m so glad I did. Equally funny and heartwarming, it’s perfect optimistic viewing for these lockdown times. Extra points for getting football mostly right, and the stunning Hannah Waddingham as the reluctant chairwoman ?

Yep, much smarter show than the trailers let on, but for those who persist anyway, the reward is ample.

  7. He doesn't need to sign a pro-contract, just a pre-contract and he does not have to wait until October to do so. Had he not refused / decided to keep options open / wanted to leave the club (select your preferred / most credible option), I'd wager we'd be looking at a fair bit more than a million and perhaps there wouldn't be so much shade getting chucked at the club from certain quarters.

Heyho, he's off or so it seems. Let's take the cash from the big boys eh, and be damn grateful for it. Yes massa, thank you massa, three bags full massa. Doubtless Citeh, Manure and Liverpool will now be keeping a careful eye on our academy to see what other younger players they can tap up and prise away before they sign a pro-contract.  ?‍♀️

I haven't, I promise. I referred to 'those who ...' and 'some people'.  My purpose was to reply to you and add other comments too, so that I don't have to leave half a dozen posts, which has worked out well. The remarks I made about the lad's parents were not aimed at you. I thought that was clear in the first post and the follow up. Apologies for it not being so.

My mind is open to change when someone comes up with actual verifiable information. That mind is not going to change on the basis of rumour.

The sarcasm is not there. I was grateful for your reply.

The boy will make his decision based on what he wants with advice from his parents. I have no reason to believe that decision will be based on anything other than what's best for the lad.

Fair enough Andy. Typically when my own post is cited I tend to assume that any following comments relate to it, so I'll say thank you for your response again, this time with no sarcasm implied.

You should maybe question the clubs motives rather than the players.  If they don’t want to sell, then don’t.

As and when there's anything to indicate that that is the case, I shall. In the meantime, when Rooney himself openly states he does not want to sell any of our young talents, I'll just assume he's part of the conspiracy in future ?

    Thanks for the reply.

We are all entitled to our opinions. And we are all entitled to challenge others' opinions. There are so many opinions in this thread based  on tittle-tattle and assumptions. And these seem to be orientated around the worst possible motives - selfishness, greed etc. Neither you nor anybody else has any basis for these assumptions.

Some people on here just want to think the worst of people, including at least one person who projected the stuff about the parents (this wasn't aimed at you but 'those' that did). I'm quite willing to accept that it's 'holier-than-thou' to point out that not a great attitude.

You and I have no idea whether he's decided to stay or not. How can anyone have an opinion on whether he's decided to stay or not? It's not holier-than-thou to point out that this is crap. It's like having an opinion on whether it's Sunday or not. The decision is a matter of fact, not opinion. And we are not party to that information.

Thanks for the reply, intoned with the same sarcasm as your own.

I've not stated anywhere that is was selfish, only (and I'll say this one last time politely) that I find it disappointing when young players like Delap and Kaide fly the coop before spending a single season playing for the senior squad of the club that nurtured them.

You can project all you like in order to satisfy your urge to sermonise, but if you can't even discern the sense of the posts you berating, then nothing I can say will change YOUR mind either.

The post accusing his parents of being more interested in paying their mortgage that you cited in your first reply isn't even one of mine, but that's not stopped you quoting me in your response. I think to date that I've always been respectful in my interactions with you, so it's disappointing that you don't feel the need to reciprocate. I'm going to leave it there now in any case.

My big concern is whether our talented younger batsmen can stand up not only to the hostile bowling but also to this type of intimidation?

Fair point but I think we one or two who can 'liven up' the Ozzies too. I doubt chief gobshite David Warner is looking forward to facing Broad too much and personally I'd find the prospect of facing Archer bowling flat out on their strips pretty terrifying! Not sure if Wood will be involved, but he'd be a pretty scary too.

Also, with Stokes back in I think there's enough warriors in the side to give as good as they get as well as minding the younger lads. I guess Australia will be favoured with them being at home but I think we can give them something to think about at very least. With India too, that's some cracking tests to look forward to in any case.

Firstly, we have no idea, despite what some have said on here, what the lad or his parents think or what the have done.

Secondly, the club didn't get him signed up as a scholar for his benefit. They did it for themselves.

Just like every other 16-year-old, he has to assess the options for his future and in that assessment, he and his parents aren't going to consider the feelings of the club or its supporters. Even if they do, one glance at this place would be enough to demonstrate that our feelings are not worth bothering with.

How dare the lad not have the same commitment to his employers as the rest of us have.

Those that have suggested that the parents motives go no further that paying off their own mortgage should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Well firstly, that's your opinion and others are entitled to theirs. Secondly, I've not mentioned his parents in any other context than him not being of legal age and therefore the ones most likely to decide whether a 16 year old boy moves to a different city or not. And thirdly, the point I made in the first place was that it was disappointing he'd not decided to stay at the club that helped nurture his talent. I haven't labelled him at all just said I understand others being miffed. Not sure what it is in that opinion that warrants your holier than thou sermon to be honest, nor having received it do I very much care. While you may not care a jot who comes or goes, others very much do, as is their prerogative.

Playing devil's advocate the guy could want to keep his options open for example - so is happy to stay (short term, again semantics I know) but guarded about committing his long term future by signing a contract and being tied into a long term deal.

    Just my opinion anyhows

Which makes a lot more sense to me, quite frankly and is precisely why I voiced some disappointment in the first place. Kaide gets offered a pre-contract which he knocks back because a) doesn't want to stay or b) doesn't want to commit. Club therefore in position whereby he could run down the scholar's agreement and simply walk. Club therefore decides, when offers come in, to take them seriously and a) maximise the potential windfall or b) minimise the loss, depending on your outlook.

All scenarios are triggered by the non-signing of the player so whilst there's plenty for us to be annoyed about with the club right now, the 'orchestrated' horse-trading of academy prospects ain't one of them. Equally, painting Kaide and / or his parents as innocent and hard done by is pretty disingenuous to say the least.

Anyways, now I am pissed off as opposed to mildly miffed, so best I say no more.

  14. 9 minutes ago, Footymum2017 said:

I did correct myself and say that it should have said sign not stay.  He was quite happy to stay at Derby and had decided to but then got told that if a better offer came in then Derby wouldn’t turn it down.

OK, so I think this is pure semantics - can you qualify how not wishing to sign and not wishing to stay are so vastly different because unless my gasp of the English language is failing me, they amount to precisely the same thing, that being, no signature on the contract being offered.

The way you position it is as if the lad is being horse-traded but if he's refused to sign, why wouldn't the club look to cash in? I can't see any reason at all whereby a youth player would refuse a pre-contract unless he did not see his future being at the club in question.

The clubs have all the power at this age, he can only go somewhere if they let him, whereas if the club wants to sell him and he doesn’t want to go he hasn’t really got any say in it.

It has been a massive PR campaign by the club that has created the situation, they had bit of interest from a couple clubs months ago and have then set out to increase his worth by having him training with the 1st team and putting him in the squad.  The offer of a pro contract was to try to increase his value further. They have got exactly what they wanted which is to make some money out of him like they did with Delap. Not sure why you all seem to think that it is the lads with no loyalty to the club, at the end of the day Derby would sell anyone who will make them money.

    Ahem....

Who posted this then? You seem to be more ITK on all things academy related by a stretch than anyone else on the forum and I'd say your November post is pretty unequivocal, yet if anyone else suggests the same you're all over it like a rash ?‍♀️

  16. I can understand people being frustrated when young players we've nurtured and brought though the ranks nick off at the first available opportunity, to be honest. Given Wazza has had him in the senior squad recently, the onward path is pretty clear if he stays, after all. He's signed as a scholar until he's 18, but we're told he's been offered a pre-contract which he's not signed. You'd like to see young players (under the guidance of their parents), sticking around for at least a single season at the club that is, in a major regard, responsible for their development, but it seems that is not the way it works these days. For me, that's a shame. I'd have dearly loved to see him stay but no doubt the big fish are offering to throw comparatively huge money at him and his parents and we clearly can't compete with that.

For all of that, I hope Kaide prospers at Liverpool for several reasons; firstly, he seems to be a good kid and a likeable one at that. Secondly, we could always use the sell-on / add-on fees. And lastly, as a further testament to the excellence of our Academy set-up and another reminder that there are aspects of Mel Morris' tenure that some less gracious fans might appreciate a little more than they clearly do.
