  1. I'm having a midweek acca tonight. Never bet on football as I'm poo at it but do use the Exchanges to good effect laying bad horseracing favourites.

    My picks are:

    West Ham
    Leicester - Chelsea draw
    Rams - Bournemouth draw
    Reading
    Southampton.

Nailed on monkey to a tenner though in truth I'd be mildly shocked if I get more than 2 right.

Only just got round to watching The Queen's Gambit last week. Was absolutely brilliant, ended up binging it.

Was looking for something to fill the hole once I finished it and took a chance on another Netflix limited series called Godless starring our boy Jack O'Connell. Was completely unaware it was made by the same bloke who made Queen's Gambit, it is equally brilliant and a well made Western. Thoroughly recommend both, even though many have probably seen them.

Also just started watching the West Wing following the events in Capitol last week. Not sure what made me watch it but I do think it's excellent. Seems laughably optimistic and naive following the past 5 years though.

Yep, loved the Queen's Gambit. One of, if not the best show of 2020 for my money. Also enjoyed Godless which surprised me to be honest as it wouldn't normally be my kind of thing.

    Really? He said that?

Our resident youth ITK has said as much. I've said apparently because I can't confirm it myself but she's been bang on the money about literally everything else. Pretty certain her lad's at the one of our Academy kids. Sucks huh! First Liam Delap, now Kaide ?

£2m quoted on Sky. Scandalous if true.
Bellingham went for mega money having only played a few first team games.
    Typical Derby County giveaway.
    When will we ever learn?

What on God's green earth has the Bellingham deal got to do with Kaide? One's a transfer fee, for a player who'd had a whole season of senior squad football, the other is compensation for a player whose not even signed a pro contract yet, hasn't started a single senior match and apparently doesn't want to sign for Derby anyway! Cheers Kaide by the way!

How can you possibly compare the two? There is literally nothing we can do about it.

    I couldn't give two shakes of a monkey's watsit.

Can you hear that.... That's the sound of monkeys all over the planet breathing a huge sigh of relief. And not the kind of relief you're on about either!

Done season 2 now..not as good as season 1 but still good. Having problems taking Kreese seriously...his face just doesnt move ?

I actually liked season two more. Gags aplenty. It also reaffirmed that Daniel LaRusso is a tedious twit and Johnny Lawrence is the king of non-PC one-liners.

Garcia v Luke Campbell was a good fight last night.

Campbell dropped him in the 2nd but didn't really go for him and let Garcia recover.

Brutal body shot that forced Campbell to retire in the 7th.

The experts rate Garcia as the future of boxing.

Looks a talent. Was interested to see he'd respond to pressure but he came through quite convincingly in the end. Feel for Campbell though. It was there for him, if only briefly.

    Band of Brothers (mini series)

This would be my "go to best thing ever made TV" Like saving private Ryan but true accounts

Based on the true actions of Easy Company 506 regiment of 101st Airbourne division following them from basic training right through the 2nd World War including The Battle of the bulge ,finding concentration camps and taking Hitlers Eagles nest.

Great shout. Only watched it for the first time about 18 months back and ended up pulling an all-nighter. I really liked the way it just told the story of these young men without ever trying to moralise. It's pretty harrowing at times, I suppose because one senses it's not overstated, nor does it hide uncomfortable truths. You kinds get the feel that this is how it was. All in all, it's really quite a remarkable show and like you, I'd put it up there with any series I've ever seen. Certainly something I'll revisit in time.

    Peppermint.

Dad and daughter get gunned down in a drive-by at the fairground.  Mum disappears, and returns s few years later as a rather hot tough cookie, with only one thing on her mind... revenge, and looking good!  Oh... That's two things!

She's angry, but focussed.  Sweaty and grubby, whilst retaining her femininity.  Brutal, yet ever so caring.  Methodical, yet vulnerable.
Tooled up to the max, and quite happy to take out all and sundry on her quest to get to Mr Big.

I do like a bit of vigilantism, and with a bit of help from Google, I think I now have a new middle aged crush!

    George Thorne/10  ?

Never seen the movie but I gave you a resounding round of applause emoji for a cracking review. Made me wanna watch it anyway! ?

I'm massively into films, war films especially and British war films in particular so saved this till Christmas Day.

I was really looking forward to it but was massively underwhelmed. Its not a bad film, the cinematography was excellent and some individual scenes were good but the plot had holes in it and whole premise nonsensical.

There was no chemistry between the 2 lead actors with the shorter one of the 2 giving a very poor performance.

Maybe because I'm an historian, unrealistic passages annoy me more, I had 3 or 4 major issues with the Dunkirk film, but a couple of things made me laugh out loud they were so bad.

So, only average after expecting so much more.

    Carbone/10

Triumph of style over substance, if any kind of triumph at all. The obsession with shooting the thing to appear as if it was a single take was ridiculous. Hitchcock used long single takes for a reason, not out of vanity.

Would not say the movies are very clever, if anything the scripts and stories are a bit juvenile and dumb.

Not the hugest fan myself but 'juvenile and dumb' seems well over the top to me. Not sure they were necessarily aimed at the older generations for a start and having grossed over USD$10 billion at the box office and god alone knows how much more in merchandising, I think it's fair to say they struck a chord with a good few.

  12. A random old set this is, but the latest played on my Youtube dash are...

A slow and wonderful crescendo from Oh Wonder. Love its gentle power. Sometimes makes me tearful but in a good way. Can't say I understand why though. No matter!

A song about where we go 'to hide' or have done. Chris Robinson swears he never meant it as such but I call ********. Some will relate, most thankfully won't.

No reason for this one. It just is : )

Last off a rather pensive version of a Neil Young classic. Haunting and beautiful in equal measures.

  13. It's interesting to read these comments. I'm not really sure I agree that they are judged differently though because while Tyson may be due a little more flak than he gets based on some silly comments, AJ is seen as wholesome and is actually a pretty bad lad lad with a proper nasty streak. He's a deal more media savvy than Tyson in that regard!

Personally I don't concern myself with these things. A lot of boxers start off in the sport as a means to avoid going down darker paths and to expend energy in a healthier way than might be the case, as did I. With many coming from less privileged backgrounds, again I'm always reticent to judge them too swiftly.

A last thought is setting aside debates around character, it's great that the fight is throwing up opposing opinions as to the outcome. It's a tough one to call and that's ideal for us fight fans. My call is AJ to edge an absolute belter on a great night for UK fight fans.

Mate, it will be a 2 fight deal at least. You can bet on that. One abroad to the highest bidder. Eddie needs a new yacht

I know you're right buddy but I'm not a massive fan of the whole two fight deal thing, unless of course it's an epic battle where one fighter just about shades it. In fairness, I won't complain too much as long as we do get the fight as by rights, Usyk was meant to be next up for AJ - I doubt he'd be terribly happy either but I think both Tyson and AJ would beat him relatively comfortably anyway.

Annoyingly, they seem to be contemplating another fight in Saudi first up which also sucks. Hearn's been gushing soundbites about having to get the fight done as it's the fight everyone here wants to see, then instead of Wembley, they horse-trade the rights for petrodollars. How many yachts does Eddie need? Heyho, I suppose it'll all be forgotten on the night if the fight is even half as good as it promises to be.
