  1. I think the only real issue with playing out from the back is that you need technical footballers, 1 through 11, to do it well. Even Ederson in goal can play the intricate stuff on the floor and that ability is a significant part of the reason Man City are as good as they are. Quite perilous though as you step up the ladder, playing against teams who can press tighter and faster than you're used to.

I'd personally like to see us play from the back as the default, but we'd need to apply a little common sense too. Wildsmith is not the best with ball at feet, so I think an 'if in doubt' policy of sticking it wide and long wouldn't be the end of the world when needs must.

But Usyk can fight southpaw, will be the faster puncher to score and has beaten fighters of (nearly) Fury's size. Anyone who tells you they know how this is going to end is lying, to you and to themselves.

He has his chance for sure and I'll be rooting for him FTLTW. To underscore your point about the outcome though, it's pretty much even money the pair right across the board, so the layers certainly share your view that it's far from a foregone conclusion. The southpaw angle is an interesting one too.

    I'm a fan of Tyson.

I'm struggling here. The gamesmanship and "big John"... meanwhile Usyk has been classy as always.

Also feeling more nervous about Fury's chances. Been pretty confident up to now that Usyk is ever so slightly overrated at HW. Looking back through Fury's history... I'm not finding much comfort. Klitschko was a beast but he didn't have the evasive off beat agility that Usyk has. And smaller men with much less ability have troubled Fury.

Looking forward to your lot predictions.

I'm going Fury controversially PTS with a couple of knock-downs but losing most the other rounds.

Head over heart, Fury on points would be my guess too @Alph They're both technically gifted and natural fighters, but the height, reach and most critically, the weight advantage will surely be to much for even Usyk to overcome.

Assuming Fury turns up fit, I think he uses that huge reach advantage to keep Usyk on the outside most of the fight and uses his size and weight to smother Usyk anytime the Ukrainian manages to plant his feet. I think that's the percentage call, as while you'd love a stand up sort of fight (they are both wonderful technicians, after all), this has all the makings of a messy one instead.

27 goals in 129 games isn't exactly setting the world alight and definitely nowhere the standard of anyone hoping to reestablish themselves in the championship.

That's not really the point I made, though I do concede this rumour is not one that fires my imagination massively either. That said, he's not a bad player and I doubt think he'll end up in L1 this season.

They pushed us so far that they even gave up with 2 games to go despite being within mathematical reach of automatics because they knew they weren’t good enough.

    Still, pretty close though.

One of the most jaundiced calls by a football manager I can ever recall. Just screams, 'even I don't think you're good enough' to his own players and 'we've already shat the bed' to every other team.

Ryan deserves the shot having by most if not all accounts beaten McCaskill previously.

On a side note, I think they should move towards 3 minute rounds as some of these 2 minutes rounds are only just getting going when the bell chimes in. Even 2 minutes 30 to split the difference would do.

Agreed. Ryan would be the best fight too, I reckon. McCaskill is a brawler and the other takeaway from last night was that she's actually pretty limited considering how successful she's been. She was exposed last night though and her frustration was evident from the third round.

And yes, 3 minutes is a no-brainer. Worst case go 8 x 3 minutes and 10 x 3 in championship fights and see how it plays out. It just seems so patronising to assume these delicate flowers need to be restricted to 20 minutes of fight time.

Yes, he went down with cramp twice.

I watched the whole game and his interview, and him receiving his medal. All good stuff.

He said he thought he was a bit behind the crosses as if it was his fault they were way over his head.

He did miss one scorable chance but was under a lot of pressure from the beefy Solihull defenders.

He just has that awareness and touch that you can't train into someone. A future star if he keeps his feet on the ground.

The assist stood out for me. That first touch was absolute filth and the pass weighted to perfection. Not too many 18 year olds have that in their locker at any level. I do agree though, that expectations should be tempered a little, as Championship football is a whole different kettle of fish, as we all know and you'd also think we'll be looking to recruit in his position too, which could make things even tougher. Good problems at last though and for me, the upcoming pre-season looks like being the most interesting in years.

Sandy Ryan next surely? That would be a great scrap.

Yes please! The welterweight division now looks pretty stacked considering the fighter pools are still pretty small. Nat Jonas, Sandy Ryan, Mikaela Mayer, all plausible next time out opponents, but definitely agree Ryan should be the pick though. Jonas is clear next best as another domestic fight that would also generate huge interest. In the women's game, these fights get made and made quick too, so that's surely one to look forward to.

Mrs Badger talked me into Slow Horses 3.

It veers from utterly brilliant to preposterous.

There is some great dialogue and acting from Oldman, but then Jack Lowden breaks out of MI5 headquarters through a service hatch ffs.

It has the potential to be one of the best programmes on TV, but let's itself down.

Or maybe it doesn't. Maybe I'm just a sad old man called Nursy with an udder fixation.

Loved 1 and 2. Sadly series 3 is all over the shop.

  10. Really impressive from Lauren Price tonight. If ever a amateur champion looked tailor made for the pro-game, it's her. McCaskill predictably came to play rough, but I don't think she or her team did their homework and they came undone in spectacular fashion.  As for Price, she's probably already the biggest thing in women's boxing only 7 fights into her career. World amateur champion, European Champion, Olympic champion and now IBO and WBA World Champion too. That's some CV.
