What a result that is, by the way. The work gone into the academy at younger age groups has been touched upon, but perhaps that’s the first real sign of genuine fruition of their hard work.

We also beat them 5-1 on the last day of last season 😅

Other big wins included: 5-3 vs Newcastle, 3-1 vs Everton, 5-2 vs Blackburn, 6-0 vs Forest, 4-1 vs Boro, 3-1 vs Stoke, and 6-1 vs Sunderland

We were also the first team to take points off Man Utd (2-2 in February)  who went on to win the title.

I'm guessing there is some real talent within that squad.

A lot of schoalrs, including 1st year scholars, were used in the U21s last season - JThompson, KRobinson, Cox, Gill, McAndrew, Allen, Davidson, Wheeldon, and of course DBrown.

Despite those stepping up to the U21s, the current 2nd year scholars will be pushing to nake progress too. For example, Oguntolu was averaging a goal contribution every game during the 2nd half of last season. He grabbed himself a goal today too.

Hope Oguntolu makes it so we can do the Kolo/Yaya Toure chant.

I had not realised that Marc Bridge-Wilkinson is the Liverpool under 18s coach (for those who remember him!)

Mentioned it when we played them last season. Had a good career in the lower leagues.

Yay, after the Wiredu disappointment we have another chance...

Ogunto-Lu-Lu, push pineapple, shake the tree,
Ogunto-Lu-Lu, you score one and he'll score three...

Match report in Preston's local paper. Bardell got the second.

Quote

Almost immediately after the restart, though, the visitors doubled their lead - as PNE failed to clear inside the box and Max Bardell lashed home into the far left corner.

Sounds like two of Youl Mawene's sons played for PNE.

Good result for our lads though, Preston had a few first team squad members playing by the look of it.

No doubt a few first teamers needing minutes started - such as LThompson, Ward and Washington.

Still quite a few with first team experience in that Preston side, so we did well to keep the cleansheet. Club record signing costing £2.2m started upfront, with a £1.8m left winger also starting.
