Derby’s record against teams inside the bottom four is amazing.

Derby 1-0 Cambridge

Cambridge 0-2 Derby

Derby 5-0 Morecambe

Morecambe 1-1 Derby

Derby 4-0 Accrington

Accrington 0-3 Derby

Derby 4-0 FGR

FGR 0-2 Derby

P8 W7 D1 L0 GF 22 GA 1 GD 21

Now onto out record against the rest of the division

P35 W13 D11 L11 GF 43 GA 43 GD 0

Not very good is it?

I'd imagine most teams have won more games against the bottom 4. That's why they're in the bottom 4.

You’d be surprised. All of the top four 4 have dropped points against the bottom 4, and their GD against the rest of the league is + unlike Derby.

If you play a team that’s 2nd in the table and win, you are awarded 3 points, the exact same number of points as you would if you beat a team in 20th.

Ever heard of six pointers?

You beat 20th and lose to 2nd, you have 3 points and 2nd has 3 points.

You beat 2nd and lose to 20th, you have 3 points and 2nd has 0 points.

And yet we're still challenging for top 6, how does that work statistically?

The 6 pointer analogy is this

If you're the 3rd team on 80 points and you're playing the 2nd team on 83 points, And the 2nd team beat the 3rd team they are then 6 points in front rather than level if the 3rd team won...hence the 6 pointer

Three points are three points, no matter if you play a team in 3rd or 23rd.

I don’t see the point of this thread. Our record v teams outside the bottom four is reflective of where we are, a good top half team that can produce outstanding moments and has an outside chance of promotion.

Against the bottom four, surely you can say we’ve done a very professional job. These games are not always straightforward and present the kind of banana skin we have historically been vulnerable to.

Look at Cambridge and Forest Green beating Peterborough and Wednesday, for instance. 7 wins from 8 and just 1 goal conceded is not a given. We have earned it.

I have heard of 6 pointers, however they are usually in the context of 2 teams playing each other down the bottom or near the top.

The games are still only worth 3 points though.

First you discredit McGoldrick's goals, now which clubs we beat to get our points. Did you get out of bed on the wrong side today?

The point of this thread and for that matter any thread started by Bris is that it is the same as the outcome for any team in the bottom four playing Derby County - usually completely pointless.

He gets a kick out of engaging people in a completely pointless debate. He sees himself as many others do also as the champion Masterdebater. He's unbeatable at it and has ridden a record number of winners in the TwatPad Derby.

Nah mate... let me try...

Team A v Team B.
A draw is a draw, but duck that, let's assume there's a winner and a loser...

Let's say Team A win, and get 3 points.  Not only do Team B get 0 points, but they've also just played a game, so that's 3 points that they can never have the opportunity to win.  That's 3 points taken from the maximum they can hope for at the end of the season.  At this point, Team B are 6 points worse off than team A.  That's right... 6 points!  Et Voila!

Get it?  Got it?  Good!

... Ok, they each have to play each other twice in a season, so technically, it's a two-legged 12 pointer, but more on that on another evening.  I'm far to busy at the moment to try to explain that to simpos on here!   👀

Not sure what your point is. The teams around us in the league probably have a similar record to us. If not and they have dropped more points than the two we dropped against the bottom four teams. Then surely it's the supporters of these teams that should be upset.

Our points total against the top six

Plymouth:-0 from 6

Ipswich:-0 from 6

Sheff. W.:- 1 from 3

Barnsley:-3 from 6

Peterborough:-3 from 6

Bolton:-4 from 6

Other than the top two, not an unreasonable return of points against teams vying for promotion

As I asked at the start, what point are you trying to make?
