Forest also knew that they were spending more last season than they could afford to do under the regulations and yet prevaricated on obtaining balancing funds from Johnson's transfer because they thought deadlines didn't apply to them with the arrogance you expect from the super-rich. Now they're both threatening the football governing bodies with legal action despite having signed up to the competition rules. Of course, even wealthier clubs deserve to get appropriate justice, but that doesn't mean these two deserve sympathy - they made their beds and they're unlikely to go bust from the effects of a tiny points deduction. The only way that would work is if clubs were only allowed to make up for any shortfall in net profit by way of a non-repayable (except as a result of a sale of the club) investment by the owners. Isn’t that essentially how P&S rules work in leagues 1 and 2? Certain types of owner injection of funds can be included in revenue? You can’t have rich owners boosting the revenue of a club by way of a loan for which repayment can be demanded. In fact, isn’t the amount each club is allowed to lose each year already limited by the fact that a large proportion needs to be covered by a “secure” injection of funds from the owner? FFP rules may not prevent clubs getting into financial trouble simply because they literally allow them to make significant losses each year. How do they not realise they got off lightly? They couldn’t possibly get any less points tramen off. They can’t expect it to be reduced to zero, so what, they’ll reduce it to 2pts, best case scenario. What difference will that really make? And why would any sanctioning body agree to that? As a punishment, it’s no deterrent at all. What do they hope to gain from this? But worst case scenario, they know they were awarded 2 pts back for cooperating, so they logically should have that reapplied by default. 2pts in the opposite direction really could make a difference. Right now they’re just 1pt behind Luton. That should be an achievable target. If they can’t make that up on the pitch, then they don’t deserve to be in the premier league. This appeal will just distract them and probably loose them more points on the pitch than they could hope to gain in court. Isn't there a deadline, inclusive of appeals, effectively a few days after the season ends (End of May?), to sort it once and for all? The club referee would travel home and away with Man City and referee all their games, the referee would be paid by how many points Man City accumulated over a season.
