Bris Vegas
I actually like those changes. The Carabao Cup has become crap because Man City, Liverpool and Chelsea just use it to give squad players playing time while building fitness for their key players. But they still win. Gone are the days when we used to have Boro v Blackburn in a final. FA Cup replays are only good if a small team can hold a big team to a draw to then get a slice of the revenue. But that has probably only happened once in the past 15 years (Burton vs Man Utd).

And if they do manage to hold them to a draw, it’s arguably better to have the chance of a winning in a shoot out, and getting the revenue from an away tie in the next round. Day
Just kick Premier League clubs out of the League Cup, exclusive to EFL clubs and scrap the EFL Trophy. You have to ensure incentives are there to field full strength teams and a cup that clubs really want to go out and win. If more teams actually went for these cups then we might see finals and winners which include teams outside of the so called big 6. But, money talks I suppose. You’re right, league games take priority so even the cup games for Championship and lower PL clubs is just a fitness exercise involving squad players. Maybe if they changed the incentive of winning it may make a difference. Rammy03

Either European football, or relegation, or the playoffs. there are only a few teams in the premier that know they’re pretty safe from relegation, and aren’t likely to even trouble the europa conference place, so they could go for it in the cups. even then though, if you’re going to prioritise a cup, you’d prioritise the fa cup. even the fa trophy suffers from the same problem. The money to be gained in the leagues now, far out weighs anything you’ll realistically get for the cup in most circumstances. And at the end of the day, we all know Man City are going to end up winning it, and if you’re being pragmatic, and know you won’t be taking home the silverware, what’s the point in knackering your chances of a decent league position for glorious exit at the quarter final stage in any cup? That’s true. I was disappointed with City’s line-up against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last season. But it was understandable given the PL and CL take priority. But even City’s squad players would be too much for the likes of Villa and West Ham these days. In the last decade only Swansea, Wigan and Leicester have won a cup outside the big six. The first two both around 2012/13 before the likes of Pep and Klopp arrived while Leicester won in an empty stadium. I think the next decade could see less.
