I think our trouble is that our best young players come under the spotlight at an earlier age than Forest's do because we are playing - and beating - the very best academy teams at both under 23 and under 18 levels.

The coaches go back to their clubs and talk about our players to their recruitment teams, whereas they just don't encounter the Forest youngsters very often.

If Forest get a couple of seasons extra to get them onto pro contracts and give them a bit of first team experience, they'll make more out of them.

That's interesting. It sort of begs the question, what's the point of having one of the best Academy's in the country if your best prospects are getting picked off for peanuts. The whole system seems wrong.

It's the compensation system that's wrong.

It'll be interesting to see if their success continues now they're Cat 1.

Almost like it is just there to serve the elite clubs...

They used the "it's the best system for getting good England players" line to get the system in place. There is a simple solution to this, put  alimit on the number of players a team can loan out each season, say 5. This will stop the big club hoovering up all the youngsters, to  just loan them out and sell them on.

A whole 8 days of Lukaku's wages.  Love this football malarkey, gets fairer every week.

I dont think it is too bad a price considering our situation & that he was on a scholar contract. Believe it was 400k upfront too.

What, Lukaku, the ex Anderlect, Man Utd and Inter Milan player? He of over 500 senior games at the very top level and over 250 first team goals in that time? You mean Lukaku who has over 100 caps for the no 1 ranked international side in the world whilst scoring 68 international goals and playing in several World Cups and European Championships? The same Lukaku who has won the Belgian Pro League, Serie A, UEFA Europa League runner-up, a FIFA World Cup third place, was voted IFFHS World's Best International Goal Scorer, PFA Premier League Team of the Year, Everton Player of the Season (twice), FIFA World Cup Bronze Boot, is in Italian Football Hall of Fame, UEFA Europa League Player of the Season, was voted Serie A Most Valuable Player, and was UEFA Nations League top scorer?

That Lukaku?

What? He’s earning in 8 days what we got paid for Dylan Williams, the 18 year old who’s made two starts and sat on the bench as an unused sub for about 15 games in a row in a Championship side who are under embargo, have a small squad, a 21 point deduction, no owners, are in Administration and on the brink of liquidation?

Madness. The games gone.

In fairness, outside the context of football, those figures are absolutely crazy. £400,000 is more than most pay for a house, never mind a person

Being paid that in 8 days is silly, regardless of how good you are at the thing you’re paid for

Not if that’s what the industry generates in revenue and sponsorship.

Pro rata what Tom Cruise earns per minute for a Mission Impossible….

That was a waste of a Saturday morning scribbling that down.   If you can't see the disparity and see the games gone I'll leave it with you.

Wasn’t a waste by any means. If you can’t see the ridiculousness of your comparison now then the games gone. I’m sick of this ‘poor Derby the worlds against us and everyone treats us unfairly’ narrative.

Ill leave that with you.

Might be in the minority there of 1 %.  Ring up Buckinghamshire free press and offer your solidarity with Brian is my advice.

That's actually the point.....

A good example of the ridiculousness as the industry ISN'T generating the level of revenue and sponsorship to sustain that kind of wage.... (your comment re Tom Cruise, his films tend to make a profit despite his salary!)

You not seen the latest numbers of the debt Chelsea are in? Or the situation at Barcelona?

I agree the fee is probably a fair price so long as there are good add ons if he develops as they hope, and I agree Lukaku is one of the best in the world, but these distorted salaries and transfer values at the top level is what has killed football imo
