It's also a very different proposition trying to break into a Championship playoff team with Mount/Huddlestone/Bryson in front of you in the pecking order than breaking into a league one team. It seemed an odd time to release him though. 2019 was the summer that Mel realised he was in trouble with the finances and Cocu was encouraged to use talents produced from our academy. Surely Elsnik could've competed for game time with Bird/Sibley/Knight. Premier ram, DarkFruitsRam7, BatRam and 1 other 2

Surely Elsnik could've competed for game time with Bird/Sibley/Knight. We decided we would get rid early in the 18/19 season. We even tried to sell him in the January to Mansfield (where he was supposed to stay the full season on loan and would be free in the summer). We then recalled him before realising no one would pay a fee for someone who would be free a few months later, then panic loaned him out to the first taker. It's been said a few times, but whoever was making the final decision on our youngsters players was doing a bad job of it. We got lucky with Cashin and to some degree Ebosele, but missed out big time on Whittaker, Archie Brown, Jacobsen, and Elsnik. angieram
Tbf, at the time Elsnik had been going through a bad run of injuries, which I think contributed. These have settled down and he's been able to build strength and form since then. I've always been a fan and still follow his career. Would he even want to come back to us now? Probably not. Comrade 86
When you look at some of the young players who have slipped through our fingers, by fair means or foul, it's quite depressing. As I recall, Timi had a couple of chances at senior level and took to it like a duck to water and for me, this was bad one as it was our call, not the lure of the top 6. I'm not at all surprised that he's carving out a decent career for himself. angieram

Srg
Good luck to him. Always liked him, lacked a yard of pace but shame we didn’t use him. Premier ram, Reggie Greenwood and Crewton
Carl Sagan
Timi played the full game for Slovenia's final warmup match against Bulgaria - a 1-1 draw. Look forward to watching him on the Euros stage.

Yeh would like to see him back now he has matured. Yes, I'll be following him as well during the Euros. Regarding his maturity, I felt that he was already mature beyond his years when he was at Derby. One of the problems with having loanees, is that sometimes our own youngsters get pushed back and aren't given the chance. Take Dajaune for instance, imagine if he was a Spurs youngster who'd just had a great loan at Gateshead, we'd all be screaming to get him on loan at Derby for this season, but many are saying that he's not ready. IlsonDerby
Started against Denmark today so I suspect there’s a big chance we’ll see him play against England!!
May Contain Nuts
Not sure, he struggled a bit imo and Slovenia equalised within 2 minutes of him being subbed off. Edited June 16 by May Contain Nuts
EulogyForEvolution
He's playing well today. Really unlucky not to score there - rattled the post after an excellent run! I never understood why we got rid in the first place. I remember being really disappointed. Magicman

Interesting. If our recruitment team decided we should have players in the squad based on an assist, we would be in trouble. Timi was a steady player from the few times I saw him. At the time he wasn't mature enough, fast enough and although a strong lad, he didn't really read the game very well. Seemed as nice guy though Not sure he would be the type Warne would need in the current style.

Seemed as nice guy though I'd have said the opposite myself, though like you, based on limited evidence. Seemed to me that he took to men's football like a duck to water, which was why I was annoyed when he was subsequently shown the door.
Ghost of Clough
The 7th highest rated DM/CM/AM to have started both games so far. Not a bad group of players to be a part of.
