Napoleon - For balance, I love Ridley Scott's movies, or lots of them at least. Alien, Blade Runner, Black Rain, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven, I mean I could die happy having made any one of those films and there are others, but sadly, Napoleon is not one of them. It's epic, that I concede and as always with Scott, it is beautifully filmed, but for all its grandeur and sweep, it found it completely hollow and unrewarding.

If you don't like money you can find it on Apple TV.

But will you still be paying the entrance fee in five years time?

You've lost me mate, but that said, I needed a handbook to navigate breakfast this morning, so that's probably my fault not yours!

Men Up on iPlayer.

Viagra clinical trials start in Wales in the 80s with a bunch of guys all getting the opportunity to deal with their diabetes caused impotence by taking part.

It was an easy enough watch, but ultimately, I was a bit bored, and the jokes (It's not a comedy per se, but very lighthearted) were all a bit predictable.

Mrs Badge enjoyed it a lot more than I did.

The Boy and the Heron

Wonderful. Evocative and beautifully rendered. I could just watch the backgrounds for 2 hours.

One Life

A great story (especially given the current state of politics) and Hopkins is brilliant.

Mrs wanted to see it, (despite her having no time whatsoever for Elvis).

She now has even less time for Elvis!

Tremors 6 - A Cold Day In Hell.

Yet another Graboids film. Like all the others, not to be taken seriously. In the right place, it works.

A recommendation from Mrs C from a recent flight "Empire of Light", a 2022 Sam Mendes film starring Olivia Coleman as the manager of a seaside cinema in the 1980s struggling with her mental health. She described it as "sweet and touching" which is odd because she usually describes such films as "soppy", so maybe it isn't too sugary. I'll try to catch it myself somewhere to see if I agree.

Possibly Leon Osman/Morten Bisgaard

Saw it a couple of months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. There's been a few films of this type around on Netflix and other channels in the last year (The Battle of Narvik being another) that feature important but lesser known episodes of the war. Although there's always some human stories added, the historical aspects alone make them worthy imo.

The Mountain Between Us...I taped this a while back so thought I'd have a look, Idris Elba, Kate Winslet and a Golden Labrador.

Elba and Winslet and the dog are in a plane crash somewhere in the USA mountains, Now the survival starts...over 2 hours long, I gave up after 1hr and 15mins

A right load of tosh...2/10 and that's for the acting of the Golden Labrador

Some may like it 🤷‍♂️

I had been meaning to watch this film for some time, but felt I perhaps needed to be in the right frame of mind to fully experience it.  Had read reviews and watched documentaries of the film, some of it twice, but there was something akin to dread holding me back from taking that step into the room in The Zone that is Stalker, a Soviet film from 1979 by director Andrei Tarkovsky.  The making of the film is a three part tragic story all by itself and the toxic environment it was filmed in ruined the health of many in the crew, including Tarkovsky, or so it is claimed.

There was no need for my trepidation it turned out, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to The Zone, but it surprised me like no other film has, for as I watched and became engrossed in this slow moving dark hypnotic film I got the distinct feeling that it was about me.  A mad conclusion you might think, but after viewing I have read reactions of others left feeling the same way about it.

I have never seen anything like it, it is beyond rating, a personal journey through misty landscapes of the mind sprinkled with something intangible, just beyond reach, yet in one's face, inducing nods of agreement and personal comprehension.

Best experienced alone.

Poor Things

Frankenstein meets Edward Scissorhands and Only Fans!

Enjoyed this black comedy immensely. Emma Stone is hilarious.

Paul Jewell (for context only), otherwise 9/10.

Dogman (2023)

Will definitely trigger a few DCFC forumites based on their posting records (there's a lot of cross-dressing going on) and there's no doubt that it's daft AF, but it does contain a startling performance from Caleb Landry Jones that despite the moderate success of Besson's latest output, will surely secure him an award or two. FWIW, I think it's a much better film than the ratings suggest.

Another to look out for is Radical - In some ways, a well-trodden path, but this is also a wonderful film telling the true story of an idealistic teacher's travails in a corrupt and violent Mexican border town. Won't say anything else other than I'd give it a strong thumbs up, especially for some incredibly nuanced performances from very young actors.

Charlie George / 10*
