He also attracts the right calibre of player quickly and many managers will want to send their youngsters to us on loan. I think Hughton would have been an OK fit for us but this carries on where FL left us. I think this is exactly Mels thinking too. There was talk in June of some Europe's biggest teams queuing up to send their youngsters on loan to work under Lampard and Morris next season. If that's true, then this is an appointment with that in mind.

admira
http://www.football-oranje.com/cocu-agrees-to-take-over-Derby-county/ Cocu agrees to take over Derby County Posted By Admin On July 2nd, 2019 06:50 PM | Dutchmen Abroad, News Algemeen Dagblad are reporting that Phillip Cocu will sign a four-year deal as the new head coach of Derby County on Wednesday. Current Derby County boss Frank Lampard is set to take over at Chelsea, and the English Championship side set their sights on Cocu. According to AD, Cocu has agreed a four-year deal with Derby County, which he will sign on Wednesday. He will take with him his former PSV assistant Chris van der Weerden and current Jong PSV-assistant Twan Scheepers with him as his assistants. Both of them will also sign four-year contracts. Cocu enjoyed plenty of success in five years with PSV Eindhoven, lifting three Eredivisie titles, before departing last summer for Fenerbahce. The 48-year-old only lasted a few months in Turkey before being sacked. Cocu will now be charged with getting Derby County back to the Premier League. They came close last season but fell short in the playoff final.

Although I bet that Mel's a bit miffed with the last two managerial departures (even if he did expect it with Lampard/Chelsea eventually) - and in contrast to the assurances Cocu wanted, has likely got some assurances back in terms of Cocu not jumping ship. Which likely has something to do with the 4 year contract. Commitment works both ways. Your opening sentence sums up my feelings quite honestly

Cocu and back room signings if confirmed, are certainly an interesting and high profile coup. Some ones worked hard to put this move together and I Would have thought some premiership chairman may be questioning themselves on not having approached him. Didn't he turn down Everton a few seasons back? Certainly high profile manager with a good CV. And worth a punt. Throws something new in the mix and should create further interest in DCFC. All exciting stuff.COYR.

Rampage
Cocu may prove to be better than Frank. Obvious stepping stone to Prem with or without Rams so big compensation package probably. 4 years so more compo. Continuity at last, just maybe.

GenBr
@admira Even better if we get £4 mill for Frank and £3 mill for the other staff. Then its £2mill for Rowett. £ 9 mill in total
