< Inserts flying off the handle type comment including such phrases as "will we never learn" and "FFS Derby", before actually reading the article and discovering that unless there is a deal there that financially suits both parties then he'll probably be moving on this summer >

He's not a bad player, just no sod has played him in his preferred role.

He didn't score 15 or so at Norwich doing defensive duties. Get him on the edge of that penalty box

Nobody else has had a team good enough in other areas to carry him.

Should we re-sign Jerome too? He got 20+ goals that same season.

The fee the club paid for him has always made people see Johnson as a bad player imo - if he was signed for 2m he would have been a good buy, not his fault we overpaid in both fee & wages.

If he is on a reduced wage then keep him around, we wont get anywhere near what he is on again so now down to what he wants to do. Recently got our player in the community award so seems settled in the area.

I was told a few weeks back that we offered him a new deal on vastly reduced terms and he went away in the summer to think about it as it was such a big drop in wages.  But apparently he really likes playing for the club.

He signed the vastly reduced deal for if we were gonna let him go. This is a proper new deal that would keep him in and around the squad.

Would have done more for us last season than Nugent did...but the answers no.

as for Johnson, he’d be a good squad player, if he’s happy to stay on squad player wages then I’d be fine with that.

Scored 15 playing a very specific role in a very specific formation - They played 4-4-2 with two DMs and then essentially two CMs ahead of them - Then full-backs provided the width and they had two proper strikers - And then essentially got the ball out to the wing, deep crosses and speculating on throwing 4 players into the box - So he didn't have to do much defending or link up play - Just battle for the ball in the area/on the edge and then shoot

We have always required him to do a bit more than that - Our CMs need to be able to pass the ball well and provide some link up with the forwards - Bradley, when keeping his game simple, is brilliant - But too often he showcases that he's not strong enough on the ball/passing to our players to play the CM role we need

I thought he was an integral part of our upturn in form at the back end of the season. Fully deserved a new deal. I don't know why his passing gets so much abuse, yes he makes a few sloppy easy passes but he also moves it quickly and forward and his long passing in the last few games was better than Huddlestone.

So he signed a new contract on vastly reduced wages but is now in talks over a newer contract on better wages because we want to keep him, but if we can’t agree a new contract it is likely he will leave despite being under contract?

Am I being stupid and misunderstanding?

Who’s making this decision ??

if Lampard is all set to go to Chelsea then which footballl minded specialist aka a manager is making this decision ?? Mel ??

if he’s doing it to protect an asset fair enough to a point but what’s to say Bradley has no place in the next managers plans, in which case whatever deal he’s in is a total waste of money

I have to say I can’t see any scenario where this dragging on of the Lampard to Chelsea scenario isn’t detrimental to us going into next season ... other clubs know their targets, where and what they need to do in the market ... a new manager now won’t have seen them in action competitively, won’t know their characters, their strengths , their limitations

not happy from Nottingham

We don't know what the agreement was in January when he took reduced terms - We know he agreed to a pay cut (which may have been significant) when he didn't need to - Might have been on the agreement that if he played a certain number of games we'd extend his contract and/or bump his pay back up for the final year
