My understanding is that Johnson has travelled to Blackburn with a view to hooking up with them as they arrive back from their preseason tour of Austria and signing on the dotted line. Quite possibly later today (Thursday). Of course you never know about these things but I do trust the source of the info who's normally very reliable. It's even possible that Butterfield will make the same move. Mowbray was the manager who brought him to Boro and after being at Moor Farm for training on Monday, Butters has since been up to Blackburn. It's been widely reported that we are expecting him and Blackman to find new clubs. possible that this is a transfer (BJ) that involves a transfer fee? If so, we've got something out of it. Still think that he can do well in the Championship and I'd rather have him than a competitor. Butters is an enigma of course. Looks like he has all the skill and none of the commitment. If we get any money for him it would be amazing
EnigmaRam
Just making way for Van Ginkel and Mount. on a serious note I’d rather we kept Johnson as I think he’s better than most people give him credit for. He’s our 2nd/3rd best midfielder in a midfield of 3 so will be missed that also would leave us short in midfield so I’m hoping for some incomings and I guess Cocu wouldn’t take the job if he didn’t have funds to spend

Other than a little bit more brawl, I don't see what he brings to the team. Central midfield is such a key area, and I think it was the main weak point for our team when we struggled in games last season.

I'd assume Frank was too with the signing of Shinnie already long in place.

And on a serious note, Johnson was always likely to be playing second fiddle to Shinnie under Lampard so was probably thinking about a move before - We're short on CMs but quite heavy on DMs at the moment and other than Huddlestone they're all much the same in terms of quality - So might as well get Johnson out if someone has come in for him
KCG
I hate topics where fans show their uncaring side and just bleat out any old hurtful rubbish. I'd hate to have you guys as my boss, or on the other hand maybe I would just love it ?

If there is a hint he wants to leave or is aware he is not wanted. Then why would you waste money on that if he is not going to figure in the team. My guess is, if he stays and that is decided soon enough he might and only might then travel out to the training camp.

I'll agree with you on the players that went missing, and I'd even include a Liverpool loanee in that list. ;) For a mid table team, I think he's perfectly adequate. For a team trying to get promoted, no chance.
jono
He's a real warrior and every team needs one. Can't help but like him, and in certain games will always be useful. Not his fault we paid stupid money for him in the first place.
