As I said in the preview to the Leeds game, as long as we really go for it and are offensive then we can have no regrets, whether we win or lose. The worst thing would be to feel that we could have played better and didn't give our all.

I re-call Joey Barton saying(might have been in his book as I can't seem to find it on the net), that in the 2014 play off final, the Derby players got complacent and thought they were in control as they were dominating the match so didn't play to their full capability, so much so that it started to get to some of the Derby players' heads because they believed they won after the O'Neil red card , which then gave the QPR players motivation to beat us. Hopefully the humbling defeats against Villa will prevent any complacency. Likewise, we don't want a situation where we are absolutely terrified of Villa and have an inferiority complex like we did v Fulham last season in the play off second leg and the first leg v leeds to extent last week. If we give it our absolute all then we can have no complaints or regrets because I think we all know deep down that Villa are the favourites for this game.

One thing has happened in between the Leeds first game which might just have a bearing on how we play and set up mentally...... the second leg

Seven helpful hints:-

1. Do not let Hourihane shoot from 25 metres

2. Stop the ball getting to Grealish

3. Torah, Torah, Torah

4. Finish the game with 11 men

5. Abraham - hope he has an off day

6. Take our chances

7. Hope the Ref and linespersons are fair and on the ball.

This isn't for everyone but on the big games, I always stick a sizable bet on the opposition. Any winnings would pay for my match ticket and lessen the pain a teeny weeny bit.

To cover the outlay, if Rams win, I had a pre-season bet on them going up so will benefit from that, will save a couple of hundred quid in fuel by having four less home games to drive to and let's face it, the feeling of euphoria, you really couldn't put a price on.

This has such a strange feeling about it to me.

10 years ago, we beat WBA despite being second best throughout the game. We had been top 2 for much of the season playing a turgid brand of anti-football, and all seemed lost.

More recently, against QPR we were by far the best team on the day, and again, had been likely automatics for much of the season and frankly, deserved promotion. We had walked the semi-final and it was our destiny to win the game.

This time, we were written off by nearly everyone, myself included, months ago - with the final nail in the coffin being Blackburn away. We had an onslaught of must win difficult games to finish the season, we had to do the impossible at ******* Road just to eventually make it... this is so different.

This seems like almost a free-hit against all odds. This season has been magical and as long as we give it our all and don't get cheated out on the day, i'm more ok with a loss than I would've been in previous years.

This team turns up for big games more often than they don't, and they certainly don't know when to call it quits and lie down.

They're enthusiastic and infectious, they're so relatable to us all, they embody the fans and what it means to be Derby. All the credit in the absolute world to Frank Lampard to understand the city in less than a season, and not just that, instill all of that spirit in a group of players who aren't all permanent Derby players. That's an incredible achievement, regardless of how we eventually end up this season.

Something special has already happened, let's hope we've just got a little bit more special left.

Summed it up exactly for me. I can't wait to see how it ends

My team line up would be:

41212

                   Roos

      Bogle Keogh Tomori  Cole

                  Johnson

          Mount    Wilson

                 Lawrence

            Marriott     Bennett

The diamond worked so well against Leeds and I would like to see it used against Villa as well , becuase Lawrence looks a lot better in the 10 role and I also think Marriott plays better next to a striker partner.  Against Villa in previous games we have created precious little down the wings, I think the secret will be to have plenty of pace upfront (why I haven't gone with Waghorn) and hit them on the counter with fast passing through the middle exposing their midfield's lack of pace and defensive ability. The pace upfront  of Marriott and Bennett is a win win for us, becuase If they sit deep we then have Lawrence , Mount and Wilson in plenty of space to make something happen.  It is an attacking line up, but I think the secret to winning will be taking the game to them like we did in the second half against Leeds, and make them worry about us rather than the other way round.

Weve lost to Villa twice this season the home game i would say was down to the new manager resurgence and the away game we made 6 changes and had players in the side who wont be starting at Wembley. The conundrum we have now regarding personel and formation is good, Villa dont know who will play nor what shape we will play either. We have options, 4-3-3 and 4-1-2-1-2, its good to have a plan B and makes it harder for Villa to prepare not knowing.

I would play the Diamond with,

                   Johnson

Mount                           Holmes

                   Wilson

   Waghorn               Marriott

Bennett played great last night but would be a great super sub and if we change formation can come on. Lawrence worked hard but looked tired and was a little sloppy at times, I think the diamond would cause villa problems, allowing us to over run Grealish. West Brom beat villa over 120 mins so we should be confident that if we play like we did last night we can beat them. I would say Leeds are better than Villa, take out Grealish and Abraham and they are still decent but nowhere near as threatening.

I think Bennett did well against Leeds but in a way hope this doesnt sway Frank to start MB as I think Waghorn and Marriott are better players and Mason always looks good when coming on when players are getting tired.

In the first half against Leeds Mason was a tad slow to move into space a few times  when we had the ball around the edge of the box and reacted after the pass had been made and has a bit to learn still but thats not taking anything away from a good performance from him and really pleased he's making the squad each game now but just think Waghorn and Marriott could be very dangerous

It was only when Marriott joined Bennett up front that we really started to expose Leeds frailties. Prior to that, it was starting to look like another frustrating afternoon for us.

So I'd only start Bennett if we're going two up front. If it's back to lone striker, you gotta stick Waghorn back in there (if he's fit).

I just think Waghorn would give Mings and co more to think about and Waghorn is no slouch Bennett did well though with Marriott agreed

The thing that worries me is Cole played LB in the first half at Villa Park when we shipped 4 goals. Malone came on for him at half time. It's too much of a blur from then to recall if Cole was responsible either directly or indirectly for the goals, but how do we go on into this game, with I assume Cole in for suspended Malone, to try and stop a repeat performance if this was a factor?

We shipped 3 goals at home to Villa before Cole even signed. Also beat Leeds 4-2 with the majority of players that lost 7-1 to them over three games.

The previous games vs Villa this season means nothing, if we have our team as up for it as they were at Elland Road then we have every chance.

I hope Cole's big game experience will help. A lot of our players have played international and play-off football at different levels, so should be used to this sort of game.

Their midfield destroyed ours so we were under constant pressure and never had the ball. Similar to previous games against Leeds. If we can get in the ball more we will be fine

We've unsurprisingly seemed to play better going forward and attacking, with a feeling there's goals to be had. Sitting back and defending a lead is not our strong point. I really hope we go for it, with a defensive shape to stop the counter attack.
